Avatar f tn do you have a newer cable box? take the little card that goes in it to work with you :) then TV won't be an option. i feel this is unacceptable. you are not paying her to veg while your son watches TV. it also makes me wonder what else she may or may not be doing against your wishes or behind your back.
Avatar f tn perhaps a support group for parents of ADHD children...to help you learn how to guide her. Most of all, hang in there!
Avatar n tn I want to know, and cant find any information on what I can expect as far as life expectancy of this child with this severe and rare defect. Would you guide me to a website, or share with me any studies you may know about that will give me an idea of what I can expect? My daughter is in complete denial and is holding on to believing this little girl will live a long and productive life. The little I've been able to find on the subject indicates this is not the case.

Avatar f tn I am waiting on an ADHD Testing appointment; but in the meantime feel that he is definitely being singled out in the classroom. I know he is not the only kid that has some of these issues that are being addressed(ie) lying to get what he wants-he knows what truth is; spending 10 minutes in bathroom, hugging too hard, not following directions immediately, flicking water in bathroom.
Avatar f tn However, if you have ADD or ADHD, they either can't remember the effect (ADD), of lack the filters to stop their action before they act (ADHD). Either way, the normal discipline doesn't work. The parent tends to get very frustrated (understandably) - and everything goes down hill from there. If the child has ADHD/ADD they need behavioral therapy. Basically, you are retraining their behavior. It takes a lot longer. But it can be done. The book I first recommended is a good start.
Avatar f tn He couldn't focus and had no concentration and still is that way. Doctor said he has ADHD and gave him Adderall which he still takes. He is the opposite of hyper, sleeps a lot and seems almost lethargic to me sometimes. He is failing school now because he can't concentrate. Age 11 started being "allergic to the cold".
Avatar n tn my son is also 8 and he has alot of the same problems, he has also been hositpalized because of his aggressive behavior got so out of hand that he was hitting is sibling really bad. he is adhd, odd and mood disorder. he is on meds, censerta and risperdal. have you talked to the school about his behavior? I have and his teacher is working with me and my son, little thing like rewards when he his had a good morning and afternoon at home.
Avatar f tn Those are not characteristics of ADD (possibly a few are ADHD) and certainly not RAD. Check out RAD here - http://en.wikipedia.o/wiki/Reactive_attachment_disorder Taking away everything is not the way to change behavior. It will never work. Essentially, behavior modification has to be immediate, consistent, and length is according to age. You are violating all of the rules. Not your fault. We can certainly help you with good workable resources to help you. But first.
Avatar f tn Seemingly nobody knows. HOWEVER upon reading a canadian health guide it says ADHD, BPD, OCD and PD are gateways to BP. Pdocs say that BP comes with comobidity with other syndromes. Also there is always a syndrome shift. Still unfortunately, ONCE manic you have then BP according to psychiatry and deserve to be treated like one IRRESPECTIVE whether you are in origin or upon taking an AD or for whatever reason you are manic.
Avatar m tn I would think that a better course of action would be to get him some help.. Obviously, the punishing is not working - well, at least what you are trying. If his mother was on drugs when she was pregnant its always possible there was lasting brain damage. If he missed virtually all of school till third grade. He will have serious reading problems.
172715 tn?1285498090 is it true that ritalin will make you feel normal if you have add/adhd yet make u speed if you dont have add/adhd, manic if you are bipolar and overanxious if you have anxiety?
Avatar n tn Hi. I have been were you are and now my daghter is 11 going on 12 and in middle school. I also have two other childern ages 9 and 7. My 9 year old is quieter, but my 7 year old is similar to my daghter when she was younger and bedhaved similar to your daughter. Also at age 3 she displayed very challengeing behavior as yours does now. This continued very srong thru age 7, then began to taper off more.

Avatar f tn Just wondering if anyone had a similar experience My son was diagnosed with mild PDD-NOS when he was 4. He is now almost 6. Ever since "interventions" started at school, he seems to be more withdrawn Before "interventions" he would participate in circle time, walk in line, play with children some, do some academic work. Basically now he needs MORE help than prior to interventions.

Avatar n tn I do not want to put him on any medication for adhd if that is what is wrong because of his age. He is not bad all the time but most of the time. I am a single mother but his father is very involved in his life. His father has a girlfriend and I have a boyfriend so i am taking that into consideration. Whenever he acts out or is doing something that he know's he is not to do, I sit him in timeout. After awhile of that, it is useless.
184674 tn?1360864093 I'd offer a suggestion in MH's suggestion forum to create a pop-up screen to appear upon entering the pregnancy and maternal forums in order to guide wonderers-of-pregnancy to the Am I Pregnant forum, but the last couple of times I've tried to make suggestions, my post was ignored and buried in that forum, or responded to but never followed up afterwards (specifically referring to the child tracker that I suggested over THREE YEARS AGO and was told it was a great idea and that it would be imple
Avatar n tn I also have a 13year old son who is very angry. He has been on ritilan since 6. Just swithched to Adderall 20mg at first of the year. The doctor thinks he might have a mood disorder or borderline personality disorder. We're praying for a simpler answer. I cant help but wonder if the meds bring on the anger. But if not for the meds her cant concentrate. He's Adhd. He's starting therapy this week hopfully that will give us some direction.
Avatar m tn Don't put words in any doctor's mouths but rather be an investigator that is seeking the right course of action over time and not immediately. to me, she sounds like she is doing pretty well. but Ecologic makes some good points to consider. I do think that you need to investigate this staring as it could be seizures.
Avatar m tn //hormonerestoration.com/files/ThyroidPMD.pdf Note especially the statement, "The diagnosis of thyroid insufficiency, and the determination of replacement dosing, must be based upon the patient’s symptoms first, and on the free T4 and free T3 levels second. The TSH test helps only to determine the cause." Also note, "The ultimate criterion for dose adjustment must always be the clinical response.
585414 tn?1288944902 Also the opposite is true, BUT and this is one argument i always hold and many object to it is that BP can be a complication of a psychic disease like you start as OCD person or having a panic disorder or ADHD then an abuse of meds turns you to BP clinically. A few only who can show manic behavior and depression consecutively or alone. The proof is that so many people nowadays are categorized BP the statistics say at least 1/100 don't you think it's too much.
Avatar f tn I'm long-winded but I've had a break from the computer and now I'm back. Just remember, fluids 1/2 your body weight in oz. Dry skin: several have recommended Gold Bond, but there are so many kinds. I use a lot of Aveeno and triple action gold bond. For my hands I lather A&D ointment, got that tip from another member, helps when your hands are in water a lot. Dry eyes: I have heard systane is best, it's a little more expensive and I wear contacts so I just use moisture drops.
Avatar m tn I also take prescribed dexedrine for adult ADHD (diagnosed in 1995). Have had re-ocurring depression periods over much of my life. Was on Paxil from 1992 until mid 2007 when I weaned myself off that horrible SSRI (flat affect, detached) and regained my brain, and my usual high level of interest in life and related activities.
Avatar n tn Some steroid shots are composed of steroid crystals which are meant to be slow-dissolving, and meant to have a sustained action. If that is what she was given, then that might explain why this is going on for so long (too long and also too severe to be ignored), and might be a clue that it is the steroid molecule itself causing the reaction. If things this morning are worse and not better, then I would be VERY VERY worried. Treatment at an ER might include antihistamines.
Avatar f tn In fact, as a retired principal, I normally feel it is the schools responsibility to deal with the situation because of the immediacy of the action. What you can do is to work on and practice with him alternatives to hitting. There are some great books that are aimed at kids of this age. "Hands are not for Hitting" http://www.amazon.com/Hands-Hitting-Ages-Best-Behavior/dp/1575420775 "Cool down and work through Anger" http://www.amazon.
Avatar m tn Also I wonder if those with hep C who were dx ADHD are misdiagnosed as far as ADHD and are experiencing the effects the virus has on the brain. I don't know if doctors use MRI's as part of the exam to dx ADHD.
