Adderall use in college

Common Questions and Answers about Adderall use in college

adderall

Avatar n tn I began taking adderall for studying my freshman year at college. Then I got a pretty nice prescription for them in October 2008 but did not take nearly as much as I was prescribed. But now I have built up quite a dependency on them. Before I would take 20mg XR a day early in the morning to study alll day then 30 now 40mg XR which is also beginning to lose its effects. I am currently an undergraduate and will be taking the MCAT on September 4th.
Avatar f tn I have friends who are RN's and that is one tough, stressful job. I can't imagine what it would be like without RNs around. I am probably off beat here, but I would be remiss if I didn't throw this out. You were diagnosed at 19. Were you in college then? Sometimes, the college doctors since they can't do the normal surveys of teachers, go more on the need of the patient and maybe don't follow the actual guidelines.
Avatar m tn thanks for the info!
Avatar m tn I was referred to a different doctor, and this particular doctor prescribed me Adderall. I knew I heard of it from being in college, but never tried it. Being that I was in a mental-state of severely depressed, I thought I should just give it a shot. It worked out GREAT, for the first time I think I actually felt "normal." I could actually get out of bed during the day. I wanted to talk to people. My interest in school went up immensely etc. etc.. With all that being said...
Avatar f tn Its pretty easy to zip through and look for those ( just look for a post with any med in the posts name. People will have posted in on their own experience and with other meds). I think the one thing I get from reading those is that everybody is different. My own feeling from posting here the last 4 years is that the dose may be a bit high. But if you just started taking it, it does take a few days for your body to adjust.
1245000 tn?1268568488 This is how I manage to cope with my addiction. I got addicted to cocaine a couple of years ago in college. I use to party all the time and used it a couple of times to party. I liked it. Who doesn't? lol. Anyway, you just get to a point where you get sick and tired of letting something control you. Just keep yourself busy. Think of all the negative things it causes in your life. In my case my family did not trust me, I got into trouble with the law, and I was broke.
Avatar m tn I stopped taking my perscription to adderall xr 30mg two weeks ago since my semester at college was over. I was taking this dosage for almost three months. Since I have stopped, I have noticed fatigue in the morning along with a foggy thought process through out the day. Is this normal? And how long does this withdrawl last for?
Avatar f tn And its always possible that its not the Adderall, but your schedule that is fatiguing you. You probably need about 8 hours of sleep a night. If you are not getting that, you will feel fatigued. And it typically takes 2 to 3 days to make up for one night of lost sleep. Try getting a couple of nights of good long sleep and see how you feel. By the way, I didn't start taking naps until about my junior year in college - and I still do. Just make them power naps.
Avatar m tn You know what I hear when I read your post? I hear someone who wants to encourage ALL of us that we CAN do it. I hope you DON'T get hate mail over this, even though this ISN'T the alternative weight loss & dieting community LOL! I am glad this is working for you. Personally, I think I would do like weight-loss programs do...taper off just BEFORE you get to your goal weight and try to finish to the end "all by yourself".
Avatar m tn I was on adderall for a for about 6 or 7 years and just in my last semester of college started abusing it to stay up studying for final exams and major projects. I then graduated and got married and wanted to get off of it for good which has been rediculously hard to do. I also started experiencing extreme neausea towards the end of my use and so it was for the best to drop it cold turkey. My stomach pains have gone away but I am still struggling with annoying withdrawl symptoms every day.
Avatar f tn I don't know if I can ever get my **** together. It has been six years of nothing but addiction and chaos now. I once went to college and earned a B.A. I once was a writer at a paper, I once worked at a TV news station, I had a license, my own apartment, you name it. I think my head is so messed up I will never be the same. Basically detox even on a taper (I'm addicted to Adderall and Ativan) will be painful and maybe not even realistic.
Avatar m tn I'm a sophmore in college at CU-Boulder with a very demanding schedule. I'm a math major and, on average, spend over 20 hours studying for my math exams now that I have reached the upper-division courses. I've never had a great attention span but still did well (3.75+) throughout high school with minimal effort. However, upon reaching college I had to study far more than I ever did before and still wasn't receiving the grades I used to.
Avatar n tn I have had the same effect happen to me when I first began taking Adderall 3 weeks ago; I am a cross country runner in college and can identify with the exact same effects you were first having. My best recommendation is that (if at all possible) exercise in the morning prior to taking adderall. You must watch your heart rate and stop if you feel your heart beating abnormally fast or beating anything that deviates from the normal.
Avatar f tn m just curious about that because I work on a campus, and there was a recent discussion in the student newspaper about the use of adderall to gain a competitive mental edge in school work. Have you had any sort of consult with a doctor? I think that should be your next step in trying to get answers as to what is going on with your body. I hope you will stick around and learn more about MS from us - we can use all the informed people that we can gather.
Avatar n tn I wasn't sure where to ask this question so if it's in the wrong forum I apologize, but I have a question reguarding adderall. I don't have add or adhd, and i understand the problems doctors have had with adderall abuse. Despite this fact, I have used another person's perscribed adderall a few times. What im wondering is if adderall is only used to treat adhd and narcolepsy. I have always had low self confidence, so low that I would barely talk to anyone.
673186 tn?1225983925 So, taking more than 2 times a day am and noon is too much. You are not to take this druh in the pm but abusers do. The hours in your system are not enough to eliminatewe the drug before bedtime if taken in the PM. To Krissy 28-your friend is in big trouble-its prob.
Avatar n tn According to the regulatory agency, they received safety information concerning the association of sudden deaths, heart-related deaths, and strokes in children and adults taking recommended doses of Adderall and Adderall XR. This risk of Adderall death seemed particularly high for individuals with structural heart abnormalities. In response to these findings, the FDA issued an advisory warning about the possible risk of death, but allowed the drug to remain on the market.
Avatar f tn Pharmacy filled 20 out of 30 today, but says they don't know when they will get more in. They said it's on backorder.
Avatar m tn I'm 21, and I've been having chest pains, so I went to the Dr. ended up getting an echocardiogram. It showed that the left ventricle in my heart was dilated (57mm). The Dr. told me to stop drinking, smoking (cigarettes), vyvanse/adderall, and cut back on caffeinated beverages. I'm in college and I've been finding it hard to stop all of these cold turkey, and I'm a bit worried about how much of a concern this condition can be? (Is this considered cardiomyopathy or not?
Avatar m tn t smoking every single till I got in high school. By the time I was 16, I was smoking a pack a day. In college, when I started dating a girl who smoked almost two packs a day, I got to where I smoked almost two packs a day, which stayed pretty consistent for the next ten years or so. When I was on Dexadrine, I dont think I ever smoked more than two packs a day.
Avatar n tn now her doctor want to go from 1/2 pill in am and 1/2 pill in pm to 1 whole pill in am and 2 pills in pm. i refuse because she sees things that arent there when she was taking 1whole ill before. now im scared to give her more because we had so much trouble in the begining. and i dont know wht to do. i am trying to find a doctor (a good doctor) that treamts the ADHD and not just give the medicine that slows the child down. any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks in advanced.
Avatar f tn So I am an 18 year old girl, freshman in college. I was diagnosed with ADD when I was about 11 years old. My doctor prescribed me adderall, which I still take. Between age 11 and now, my doctor and I tried different MG's of adderall to try to find the best fit.
Avatar n tn My college aged daughter has been on Adderall 3 days a week since Nov 2007. I noticed over spring break a small amount of acne (she had been acne free for years). Then when she came home in May the acne started getting worse. She upped her adderall because of training/games and a new job. So she was basically taking it almost every day. Her face broke out horribly. Worse it has ever been. I took her to two dermatologists. Nothing was helping. It was steadily getting worse.
Avatar f tn I snort it from time to time to help study for huge tests or to focus for big papers. I am wondering if snorting adderall will lead to holes in my nose? if so, how long do you have to snort to cause that problem. I only snort like 20 mgs and not on a daily basis.
