I have spent days on the internet trying to find out info on the statistics of HIV in the Thailand bars. There are plenty of statistics for thailand as a whole but it needs to be broken down. There a a lot of small local brothels which locals go to where condoms are not used which would affect the statistics of the HIV in the GO GO bars where the girls are supposed to be tested monthly/quarterly. They are also having sex with tourists where condoms are being used on most occasions.

In November 2011 I had an exposure to HIV, I had unprotected sex with CSW.
I tested negative at 4,8,10,13 and 16 weeks with Elisa in Bahrain (where i currently live/work - I am a british expat out here). The doctor told me it was a 3rd gen elisa test.
My question is do i need further tests. I have read somewhere that the subtype 'E' in Thailand is less sensitive at being detected by tests and they have a longer windw peroid etc. - is there any truth behind this?

it is true that HIV is more prevalent in sex workers in Thailand than in most parts of the US, but still probalby under 1% (certainly under 5%) of sex workers there have HIV. Second, gonorrhea does raise the risk, but probably only by double or thereabouts.
