Adderall for multiple sclerosis

Common Questions and Answers about Adderall for multiple sclerosis

Avatar n tn Interesting story.....I was diagnosed with ADD and was on Adderall for almost 2 years. After about 6 months I started getting strange symptoms and existing unexplained symptoms that I had before were amplifed or stimulated. I suffered from joint muscle pain, extreme fatigue, extreme pain on the right side of my face/right temple/cheek/nose area and subsequently devolped a perforated nasal septum.
Avatar n tn I was prescribed Adderall about 2 years ago for fatigue associated with Multiple Sclerosis. At different times, I have tried to stop taking this drug but always get back on it because it is addictive. I do not have an addictive personality but this drug has me hooked. Sure, I don't have the fatigue like when I don't take it but I have found that instead, I am "speeding" through life. I haven't been able to sit down and read a book since I've been on this stuff.
Avatar f tn I recently learned that the chronic fatigue and adult ADD the doc thought I had was actually Multiple Sclerosis. The Adderall makes the tremors much worse so I wanted to cut down and then figured I will just quit taking it altogether. My question is if I have only taken the prescribed amount (60 mg once a day), will I have any bad side effects? Like withdrawl you would get if you were on pain pills for a few months then just stopped one day?

797195 tn?1240583423 I have been using Adderall for quite awhile for Narcolepsy. It works great. However, all of the sudden my blood pressure started to go up. I am not sure if the long term use of Adderall is the reason, but while investgating information, I found out that Canada does not allow the use of Adderall because of side effects. I just switched to Concerta today. I'll let you know of my results if you wish.
1504275 tn?1300760036 I have been having severe back pain (lower, upper, thoracic, neck, everything), pain when turning my head to one side, swollen knees, etc for a couple of months now. I ran out of Adderall a week or two ago (prescribed for POTS), and on the second night my mouth and the area right around it went numb like I was at the dentist, my hands wouldn't stop shaking, and I didn't understand anything people were talking about. I have been waking up with my eyes shaking up and down uncontrollably.

Avatar f tn I met a woman in a group meeting who stated almost identical symptoms that you posted here. She was diagnosed as having MS (multiple Sclerosis). Please get a help from the right physician before you waste money in sleep specialist and others.

669856 tn?1225661669 com/multiple-sclerosis/guide/multiple-sclerosis-diagnosing. I have battled chronic fatigue and have not experienced many of the symptoms that you are having. It definately sounds more serious than fatigue. I would recommend that you go back to your MD and tell him that your symptoms are back and that you'd like a second opinion on the MS diagnosis. And, there are many other diseases such as ALS, Lupus and other neuro-degenerative disorders.

883197 tn?1243126380 I know I have read that depression is one of the many symptoms and fatigue is also. If I don't take my adderall for my ADHD I could sleep all day, however this isn't always, 7 times out of 10 I'm tired. But I am really wondering if this could all be tied in together! My grandmother on my father's side AND my father both had PD. Two of my cousins have MS. Numerous strokes and TIA's in the family. I don't know where to look!
Avatar f tn the pain behind your eye is concerning especially since you have light sensitivity. i had that too along with many other sx's you are experiencing. I am not dxd but the eye problem turned out to be Uveitis. You may want to see an eye MD just to make sure this si not what you have too.
Avatar n tn Would appreciate any personal comments you have about your use of Adderall. Is the Adderall prescribed for pain? And how have you been feeling Anjel? I do think about you alot, dealing with all the discomfort that you suffer from. I sincerely hope that you can find a way to get your pain under control. Living in chronic pain, is the pits, isn't it?

Avatar f tn never-ending blood work, an MRI, EEG, Polysomnogram and MSLT, ultrasounds, nerve conduction study. I've been taking adderall for years to keep me awake. I usually sleep 16 or more hours each day. Eventually the adderall became ineffective because my body built up a tolerance to it. Last summer I had a sleep study to deal with that issue and was then diagnosed with mild periodic limb movement disorder. I've been on some medications for the limb movements, but I still have extreme sleepiness.
2191023 tn?1338767543 I have autoimmune juvenile pernicious anaemia and Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Fatigue from malabsorption of B12 was far worse than the fatigue of hypothyroidism. Besides autoimmune diseases, deficiency states most commonly mentioned with hypothyroidism are vitamin B12, iron and vitamin D. I would also recommend CoQ10 and magnesium as both play an essential part in the process that produces energy on a cellular level.
Avatar f tn Its expensive but one of safer drugs, it is not narcotic either. And it works for me, i was given adderall but it didnt seem to work at all for my fatigue. Plus it is narcotic and addicting. I was recently in a drug rehab recently to get off of methodone that my dr had given me for pain, a long story...they also took away my sleeping pill. They were okay with provigil and they are very careful, we couldn't even have aspirin or coffee. That is the way I would go if it were me.
Avatar f tn I was terrified that it was another autoimmune disease (since we're all so lucky to be at increased risk for multiple autoimmune diseases) My attitude is another thing I can't figure out. I feel like such a drag. I'm constantly worried about my health, yet I feel like I haven't done jack about it. Then when I try to do something about it, I fail miserably. I tried eating paleo for a week... I did alright but still overate everything that I was allowed to eat.
Avatar f tn I was put through cardio tests because of chest pains and papatations, barium enemas, GI series, , IVP for kidney problems, dentists for sores inside my mouth, neurologists for my headaches, orthopedists for my joint pains etc. My throat, neck, hips and groin area were constantly in pain. I was diagnosed with colitis even though my tests came back negative. (diagnosis based on symptoms) I ultimately suffered with panic attacks. This list goes on.
405614 tn?1329147714 I suppose that if we cannot get the Provigil approved, I would be interested in trying Adderall, starting at a low dose. I am leaving for two weeks on Maui starting January 1, and would like to have energy for the trip. Seven days worth of Provigil costs $113, though I could probably cut them in half and make it last two weeks, if Ritalin or Adderall could be a possible problem. Please let me know what you think is the best course for us to take with this matter.
Avatar f tn These are several and include things like vitamin D deficiency, sleep apnea, lyme disease, joint hypermobility, thyroid problems, arthritis, multiple sclerosis and others. The point is that they need to be excluded. In addition to your pain, you have muscle spasms, changes in vision, and vertigo. They can all in theory occur in fibromyalgia, but really I think you need more testing. The most important thing to consider is that you’re only 42 and you’re disabled and you’re getting worse.
Avatar m tn ) This progressively got worse all week and Friday I felt terrible and I slept 13 hours that night! Considering that I take adderall for ADHD (which developed during this 7 year period and depression too....), which usually lets me sleep 6 hours, 13 is crazy! Anyway, jump forward to the next weekend and my back started hurting again, followed by another couple of 12 hour sleeping nights....
Avatar f tn ) So for all of you parents out there reading this talk to your doctors about tweeking your childs meds if you think that their sideaffects are too rash from this. And about the original topic of adderall. I was on Adderall for a short period of time and i HATED it. I had censitivity to light, headaches, and my concentration was horrible. And i know Jennifer is gonna say something like im proving her point well guess what im not.
Avatar f tn // you will find many common drugs that are used to treat MS symptoms. Remember - these are not disease modifying drugs - they do not slow the progression or lessen the number of exacerbations - they are used for symptom management. I got this site from the "health pages" at the top right hand sit of your screen.
Avatar m tn I originally started getting tingles in my fingertips on one hand that slowly spread up my wrist and forearm. My old doctor had me tested for carpal tunnel, which came back negative. He dismissed my MS concerns out of hand, even though he brought up the topic when he asked if anyone in my family had it. I eventually switched doctors. My new doctor saw me and, although he didn't feel that I had it, decided to have me tested just to put my mind at ease.
Avatar f tn I know this is an old post, but I am having this issue now. I have Multiple Sclerosis and I am a single mom of 2 kids. Fatigue is my main issue at work. I need to work full time to provide for my kids, but by noon I am dragging my feet. I don't sleep enough at night due to MS issues like pain and tremors. I don't want to stop working yet, since I am able to perform my job, wondering if the fatigue eve goes away.
