Adderall bipolar

Common Questions and Answers about Adderall bipolar

adderall

Avatar n tn Doctors try to avoid vyvanse and adderall ect with bipolar because it causes mania. Adderal is not used for bipolar. For bipolar i take abilify (aripiprizole) 10mg and 1000mg of divalproex sodium.
Avatar f tn I have never heard my Psychiatrist talking about it being used to treat Bipolar. The only reason I take Adderall is to treat my ADHD. I have also only taken Adderall and nothing else, for a period of time, and did not notice any changes in my Bipolar symptoms. Everyone is different though, but a symptom one can have from taking Adderall, are racing thoughts, so I don't believe it would be prescribed to treat that.
Avatar n tn My doc wouldn't give that to me. He said if he gave me adderall (which had worked for my adhd before the bipolar), he couldn't treat the bipolar. I was getting depakote + an antidepressant. Instead, he gave me a drug that is not a stimulant but is used for adhd and as an antidepressant. Can't remember the name (10years ago), but there are alternatives to adderall.
Avatar n tn Is Adderall a safe drug for persons with Bipolar disorder? My daughter has been taken into custody at least 6 times due to poor judgement, aggressive behavior etc. Yet, her Psychiatrist continues to prescribe Adderall. Can someone help us?
Avatar n tn Hello! I have several immediate family members who I thought had ADHD, but also have mood swings during the day, ranging from super happy, giddy and silly to irritable, angry and depressed. When confronted with new ideas or need for transitions, they become very irrational, stubborn and won't listen or comply; also have troubled and very irregular sleep patterns, talk too much and very fast.
Avatar n tn Hi, I have also been dx as Bipolar I. I have not taken Adderall, however I know many people have had good results. Have you discussed with your doctor? I must take a antidepressant daily or I will rapid cycle and fall into a deep depression. I have read there is no proof that a/d have an effect on Bipolar, but I can tell you speaking about myself...I must have A/D. If A/D do not cause you to go into mania, I say no harm....after all, depression is part of the illness.
Avatar f tn Did this in psychiatric hospital I had been in several times because I suffer with bipolar 1 for 17 years. My symptoms are sometimes psychosis, paranoia and hallucinations along with depression and debilitating anxiety. These are for the most part treated with medications by my psychiatrist. 2 years ago he diagnosed me with ADHD and prescribed me Ritalin.
Avatar f tn Thank you for the reply, I am on 300 mgs of effexor in the am and 300 mgs of lamictal in the am both should be waking me up enough .. the only med I take for sleep is ambian but not all the time.. I do have klonapin that I use when I can't cope with certain things but I use it sparingly.. I did read up on the adderall and i think it is newly prescribed for narcolepticy but yes it's not common especially for bipolar persons..
Avatar f tn I take adderall for adhd and lexapro 10mg but nothing for my bipolar. I have xanax prescribed to me but I honestly think the adderall is making my moods worse but when im not on it I have no motivation. So its a slippery slope I think its just a matter of trying to find the right balance. Im thinking of trying the abilify..... Anyone else have any input on it (abilify)?
Avatar f tn I am to the point where I take the ADHD stimulants, (VYVANSE - 70 mgX1 or 2, or 3 during the day) and/or Adderall. This is obvious signs of drug addiction/dependency/abuse. I know. Again - Without ADHD medications or antidepressants I still feel as terrible as I do while taking the ADHD medications. I understand this seems like I am being impossible, but I really cannot help but express what I have been feeling and thinking for the past who knows how long. Everything I say is completely true.
Avatar m tn Currently I am on 1500 mg of lithium and 20mg of adderall xr a day. I feel floaty or high on the lithium until the adderall focus boom hits. I hate the floaty feeling. My doctors diagnosis is based upon this: I told him that I probably have, on most days, up to 4 thoughts that make me feel as though I can do anything and no one can stop me. Mostly things like a new career, or a business idea. These thoughts are short lived, about 1-2 hours. Some last longer or less.
Avatar f tn I suffer from major depression. I have been on Adderall for about 7 years. I’m on 80mg daily. I’m still exhausted. Adderall to me is such a double edged sword. Years ago when I first started it I felt alive. I could function like a normal person for awhile. The effects began to wear off and my dose slowly increased. My highest daily dose I have ever been on was 90mg. Right now I really don’t think I would be able to get out of bed without the Adderall.
428176 tn?1205555587 Serequel really helped me. I have ADHD too so after 4 months on Serequel, they put me on Strattera first. I still seemed spaced out. Then I begged for Adderall after taking 3 30mg for 3 days my girlfriend got for me as a test. The Adderall has made me a different person. I use to be called ADD boy by my friends parents. LOL The only thing I have to watch is my blood pressure. I'm 42 and the adderall has the reverse affect as that of a normal person. It calms and focuses me.
Avatar n tn I personally have ADHD. I also have narcolepsy. I was put on Adderall and a miracle happened within a few hours. I became extremely rational. I did not need to analyze everything. It completely took away the angst that I have had my whole life. I can focus and feel content. It does not take away my appetite, in fact it increases it. I actually can listen and pay attention to things. I feel much more RELAXED and able to handle everything better.
Avatar f tn I have been taking a number of medications since I turned 21 in 2008, the first being Prozac, Adderall, and Seroquel. I was only prescribed Seroquel for as long as my doctor wanted to "observe possible Bipolar symptoms".... after about 3 months he took me off Seroquel. After years of continued difficulty with bouts of depression, anger/irritability, sleep, I saw a new doctor in 2015 who prescribed Abilify 5mg along with Adderall.
506259 tn?1228788619 I honestly related this to the virus as my son also experienced problems, and doesnt do caffeine or adderall. I stopped the adderall completely really with no problem that I was aware of, however I did end up with every possible symptom of fibro, and then some. Again I attributed this to the nasty virus. However at the end of July, while unusually fatigued and in a great amount of pain, I had to get ready for a family vacation.
Avatar f tn I was very depressed, also. After this, she thought about putting me back on the drug I abused a few years ago, Adderall. Of course, my eyes lit up. I loved this drug. It worked wonderfully for me. I ended up putting it up my nose. She knows my history. My previous doctor would never even put me on Provigil, let alone Adderall. She wanted to try it, with my husband giving me the pill each day, but the attending physician didnt agree.
452191 tn?1208754863 i have been put on 40 mg of adderall xr for A.D.D., i also have a past history of diagnosed anorexia and bulimia, bipolar, depression and panic disorder. I am also on lamictal for bipolar and xanax for panic attacks. my resting heart rate has been going up to 130 when on adderall, which is kinda weird because i'm a dancer,i used to dance 5 days away at my studio and about 15 hours a week. i haven't been dancing as much lately though because of my depression.
Avatar f tn I am taking adderall as apart of my treatment with bipolar and adhd. I also take neurotin 3xs a day and klonopin 3x's a day. I was just wondering has anyone taken adderall and ritilan and was there a big difference in the 2? I only ask because my insurance doesn't cover the adderall but it does ritilan. I really don't want to mess with my medication regime but if there isn't a huge difference in the 2 then finacially.....
Avatar m tn Hi My husband has ADD and is an alcoholic. It's weird as he definately drinks to cope but same as laughingman "I am add and alcohol makes me feel normal and actually boost my cognitive skills for the first 4 or 5 drinks then its all down hill from there. " If he doesn't drink he gets depressed. If he drinks too much it's scary. But if he has the right amount it seems to help us all cope!
Avatar f tn I am Type 1, rapid cycling, bipolar. I currently am taking Symbyax, Lamictal, and Adderall. I take ativan as needed, but I find it doesn't do much for me and I often have crying bouts after use. I was thinking of augmenting with an edible here and there as needed instead of the Ativan, butI can't find any good information pertaining to potential drug interactions. I rarely get hypomanic, more often a mixed state, and I never get manic. Can anyone help me out?
561706 tn?1333947274 You are only taking a 10 mg dose. This (in my experience) is comperable to a large cup of coffee. Ritilin is an amphetamine so no one is unaffected by it - a placebo effect is unlikely. Many doctors are more wary of prescribing these drugs after the HUGE outpouring of public criticism these last 10 years (which you will encounter here). When you're diagnosed with BP it becomes even more difficult to get treated for the ADD as stimulants are known to trigger manic phases.
Avatar f tn if its prevelant be careful not to become codependent. bipolar is hard. adhd can seem like bipolar when its not. though he probabaly wont have the big red flags for bipolar if its adhd actong like bipolar.
Avatar f tn if anyone experiences delusional thoughts or even paranoia along with being diagnosed with adhd let me know if meds help that my doctors have tried a lot of meds. i am scared to ask them about adderall because i really do not want them to just try anything..because t hey have tried so much already and i feel like i am getting worse.
926067 tn?1245164945 I'm not sure what I am? I am going to a psychiatrist on a regular basis-almost a year now. I have been on several differnt depression meds & have had horrible withdrawal symptoms with some of the meds & such. I have also been diagnosed w/ADD. Currently I am taking Pristiq (50mg) and so far it is working now, after almost 4 weeks! i was almost ready to give up on it, too! I also take Adderall 20mg (2times a day) and feeling better.
Avatar f tn hi i've never posted a question on a forum let alone on about bipolar. i really need help. i'm have some concerning medical problems, including hashimoto disease and now my adrenal count is off. i want to know if this might be because of my psych meds. i'm on lamictal 200 bid, cymbalta 40 and adderall 80xr.
