459210 tn?1237381603 there are also some really good ADD/ADHD sites that have a checklist of common symptoms, I could not beleive it, I ticked every box. the interesting thing is that ADD is genetic and if you have it one of your parents do.
Avatar f tn The doctor will have a checklist and should be able to tell you if ADD is your problem or if there is another cause for your symptoms. Also, a psychiatrist is better trained to know whether or not you are just trying to get drugs or truly need them for a medical problem. If your doctor does not take your symptoms seriously, you should find another doctor. By the way, a psychiatrist is an MD and seeing one does not mean you are crazy so please get the treatment you need!
Avatar f tn I remember sitting through lessons not having a clue about maths, we would read a book as a whole class, everyone would be interested in it and I would be the only one in the class who was reading along but wouldnt have a clue what it is about. I have actually been assessed as 'above average' intelligence. Unfortunately these were the days when children with behavioural problems were demonised and rejected in the 60's. I left school ..

Avatar f tn Several standardized tests and checklists have been developed to help assess the behavior of children with possible autism. These tests are also intended to further evaluate children in whom autism is considered possible (due to parent concerns, clinical clues, and/or positive screening test results). These assessment instruments can be used in various ways in assessing children with possible autism.
967168 tn?1477584489 ve heard of CFS but never really FM and am shocked to find I have ALOT of the symptoms. This all started in Nov 1997 when I was almost 30, when I developed Group Beta Streptococcus which turned into blood sepsis. I developed hypothyroidism in 1998, and was treated for a year but then my lvls were fine (or so I thought).
Avatar f tn (in children) In adults, this type of thing would show up as an Axis II personality disorder. In children, particularly 4 (very young for this kind of diagnosis, ADD/ADHD as well - and I would hold off on the meds until a second or third opinion is obtained..cheaper than treatment I'm sure...) ALSO - (I have personal experience in this - my 5 yr old girl had wild tantrums, and I was very worried,, and took her to different drs...
127529 tn?1331840780 Autism is a spectrum disorder. It runs a RANGE of symptoms. If not all the checklist items are checked off, then we fall into another category, then another and so on. Maybe if what's left over shows in the NOS (not otherwise specified) category. It still falls somewhere still on the spectrum.

Avatar m tn My comments might be considered as more general, based on observation and an intense interest in the welfare of children. The family is in the medical community and its related professions. One member deals with children with academic problems and another with programs for gifted children.
Avatar m tn I suggested it in order that you would have a checklist of things that can cause numbness, to look at and see if the doctors have tested you for everything on the list.
639543 tn?1297027634 Kimberlee- Your list is quite helpful it reminded me to bring my own pads the hosp ones are awful. Too cute you are so prepared! Grose- I did it for awhile with my older two but they were both big babies and it just wasn't filling them up. I will see how big he is and most likely switch back and forth from bottle to the breast! Mumita- If you only use your breast the baby will get to used to it and you may find it hard to ween them off and on to the bottle when you go back to work.

757137 tn?1347196453 There was a news item today that claimed a connection between ADD and the use of organophosphates (a pesticide) on the food we eat. Apparently, in tests it was found that children with ADD tended to have very high levels (well above he norm) of this poison in their systems. I will see what more I can learn about this. Even when we are conscientious in caring for our children there are hidden dangers all around us.
Avatar f tn I would certainly recommend that you share these and any additional concerns with your pediatrician, who will be able to assess your child in person and, if necessary, to recommend local resources. In the meantime, I also recommend working with your son's school on his academic and social issues. Even if you son receives no diagnosis, it is certainly reasonable for you and the school to develop approaches to capitalize on his strengths and develp his skills in areas in which he struggles.
Avatar n tn Yes, these are all symptoms of type I diabetes in children. My child was wetting the bed, extremely thirsty all the time and was vomiting; his vomiting, we think, was contributed to a stomach virus he had at the time. We took him to the ER due to dehydration -they did a blood chemistry and his blood sugar was 399-they immediately admitted him to ICU and he was put on IV insulin. He's been a diabetic now for 3 years-he's now 9. He's has handled it amazingly well!
