They are not hard, the doctor prescribed me some topical ointment so I'm going to give that a try and see what happens.
70 year old, white male. I have what I believe are classic symptoms of red scrotum syndrome. Red scrotum from base of penis to my anus. Darker red/purlple mid-line skin on scrotal sack. Burning, no itching constantly. I have used various soaps and a topical shea, chamomile & aragon oil ointment with little to no positive effect. In fact, this seems to be getting worse. I have been recently prescribed 3 new blood pressure medications...Telimsartan, Amilodipine and Carvedilol.
Besides the zovirax ointment, which is difficult to administer since his lips are so sore, are their oral meds vs. topical that would be effective and safe? My pediatrician says he's too young for suppression therapy, but I've read other places that it's available for children under 12. Very frustrated, and just want to give my son some relief.
At this point it's too late to culture it and get more accurate answers. Should it ever reoccur - make them culture it for herpes within 24-48 hours of its appearance.
Oral antibiotics and topical antibiotics and steroids are not used to treat herpes ( well sometimes steroids but not usually ). If it was really acyclovir and zovirax ointment then they aren't antibiotics but antivirals. Not sure what all they prescribed for your hubby.

After 2yrs of pain I decided to try my own formula. I bought this Chinese ointment while I was still staying in Ghana and I put the ointment on the location of the pain then I will pour cold chilled water with ice on the back of my head. I been told that oral thrush on the tongue causes bad breath, but to be honest with you I do not have bad breath.
You ever talk to your doctor about herpes antivirals for your cold sores to help them heal quicker? You can do a round of acyclovir for $4 at walmart - WAY cheaper than that teeny tube of abreeva that only heals cold sores half a day sooner than using nothing at all.
Treatment is by topical steroids or oral therapy of corticosteroids in severe cases. Topical creams like tacrolimus ointment (Protopic) and pimecrolimus cream (Elidel) are also useful.
My sincere advice would be to consult a dermatologist and get these two possibilities along with the possibility of angular cheilitis ruled out.

What type of antibiotic is it? If it is an ointment, these are like Vaseline types, then it will make your hair greasy.
Once the cut is completely healed over, you will be able to use your normal shampoo that will get rid of the greasiness.
(at least I think it was an ob, i am never 100% sure.) anyway I took my prescribed acyclovir and now recently my butt is feeling like it is bruised (although there is actually no bruise or anything to see physically) Just wondering if this is a normal thing to feel post outbreak? or is it a sign of viral shedding? or is it about to be another ob?
Most importantly I want to know how long it is safe to have sex with my partner again after feeling this "bruising"?

Topical antibiotics such as mupirocin or neomycin containing ointment are also useful and you can take oral antiinflammatories like ibuprofen/acetaminophen after consulting your doctor. I went to the doctor and was prescribed Acyclovir. I did that for the week knowing it might not clear it completely.....now it has been over 6 weeks and it just won't clear up. It seems to almost clear up then starts oozing again every few days...Any suggestions?

previously it reccurs aftr 6months bt from 5months it recurrs frequently [2times/month]iam using acyclovir topical and oral from 1month it subsiding for a while and recurring while iam stressed,gastritis and im also having intermittent cough from 3moths.i got herpes genitalis when i had sex with my 4th boyfriend 5months back.
