famvir

Avatar m tn Will this drug always require a prescription. It gets old going to a doctor every 90 days to new mine.
Avatar m tn ve only had oral outbreaks so far, i asked the doctor for acyclovir and he gave me a prescription for 800mg tablets and to take them 2x daily for a total dose of 1600mg everyday as supressive therapy. i'm concerned this is too high a dose? i thought it should be 400mg and take 2x daily for a total dose of 800mg? it was an ER doctor that gave it to me because i don't have health insurance and went to the county hospital.
Avatar n tn Is there a reliable (online) store in US where i can buy acyclovir without any prescription. Can you suggest some stores please?
Avatar m tn My guess would be because you get less active acyclovir in your body with plain ole acyclovir than you do valtrex but we have no studies to back this assumption.
Avatar f tn ve been taking it for 25 yrs with no issues. At some point I stopped having outbreaks, but I will continue to use acyclovir.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with HSV 2 in 2009. I have recently taken myself off of Acyclovir due to the cost without insurance. I have leg pain again, which I haven't had since my first outbreak. Does this leg pain subside/decrease over the years like the trend of outbreaks?
Avatar f tn I want to know is there anyone that knows of a reputable site online where I can buy antivirals without a prescription? I do not have any insurance. If there is anyone that has had good experiences with one, please let me know. Thanks.
Avatar f tn t do much at all. give the doc a call and ask for a prescription for herpes antivirals to keep on hand for future cold sores. she can use either 1 day famvir, 1 day valtrex or 2 day acyclovir to treat cold sores. acyclovir is the cheapest option - 800mg 3x/day for 2 days.
Avatar f tn I had sex with a new partner for the first time on February 5, 2012. Shortly thereafter I found by "chance" (in other words... I was snooping) a prescription for ACYCLOVIR in his name. This prompted me to request an HSV2 blood test although I had no visible symptoms, lesions, or blisters. I provided a blood sample on 3/2/12 and my blood test came back with the following result: HSV2 Ab, IgG 3.40 Positive Negative 1.
Avatar m tn Thanks for the response Grace. I understand that Valtrex is better at reducing transmission and that there is a generic version now. 1) Is the generic version as good as the original? 2) Do you know what the cost per month is for either the original and the generic for someone without insurance?
Avatar f tn m having a hard time reaching my doctor back home to renew this prescription (there are no refills left on this one.) I did take the first dose of Valtrex, thinking I had 12 hours to reach my dr and have the rx called in, however I haven't been able to reach him. I just found out that a family member has Acyclovir. My question is, can I take Acyclovir for the second dose, 12 hours after taking the first dose of Valtrex?
Avatar n tn My girlfriend was just given a prescription for Valtrex, however, even with insurance it is $75 a month. So, her doctor gave her another option in acyclovir, which was only $15 and had to be taken twice a day as opposed to one a day with the valtrex. Is there any real significant benefit to taking the Valtrex that would warrant paying the additional costs? Please let me know, so we can switch if necessary.
Avatar n tn Ask your provider for a prescription for oral acyclovir, famvir or valtrex in the cold sore doses and use an otc pain relief topical instead if the cold sore hurts. Even cheaper yet, hold an ice cube to the cold sore !
Avatar f tn Was discontinued. With next occurrence, I asked for another anti-viral and was prescribed Acyclovir. This one caused headaches, backache, confusion and fatigue. Was stopped. I am now having a recurrence and didn't take anything. After about 7 days, I felt it was almost over, then wham....came back with a new leison and flu-like symptoms. Tried Acyclovir before bed last night, was up most of night with headache. I haven't taken anything today. I don't know what to do.
Avatar n tn Give your regular doctor a call and ask them to prescribe daily suppressive therapy for you. If you don't have insurance, acyclovir will be the cheaper option for you. If you've been previously diagnosed as having genital herpes, no reason to have to go in with a recurrence and "prove" you have it - that's bogus. You can also call the clinic you've recently been going to and ask to talk to the clinic manager and make a complaint.
Avatar n tn I was originally prescribed 400 mg of acyclovir twice daily for suppression of my herpes type 2. Recently, I asked my doctor to increase my dosage to 800 mg of acyclovir twice daily. Is there any negatives associated with taking a higher dose than what is normally prescribed for suppression. Also, are there any benefits to taking a higher dose regularly for suppression like less shedding?
Avatar f tn s anxiety. He gave me a prescription for acyclovir and said that it was more a treatment for me than him, because it didn't bother my son, just me. I have the prescription with refills still sitting on my fridge, unfilled as of yet. I don't want to expose him to prescription meds if it's just not necessary, but I don't know what to do. We went another 3 1/2 weeks before this last one came up. It's number 7 since September.
Avatar f tn I just received a prescription for daily suppressive Acyclovir that I began taking today. My outbreaks are minimal, so the primary purpose for the medication is to reduce the risk of transmission. I have read in various places that Valtrex is the only suppressive medication that has been proven in clinical trials to reduce transmission. I am under the impression, however, that this is simply because Valtrex is the only drug that has been tested for reduction in transmission.
Avatar m tn and see if her doctor will up the times per day and give her a new prescription. She only had a prescription for 90 pills and has taken about five of them.
Avatar f tn I havent experienced any side effects whatsoever with acyclovir so its been great. No outbreaks either. The hardest part for me is managing my stress level and not letting myself get too run-down. If you dont keep yourself otherwise healthy (eat right, exercise, seriously!) then youre more likely to get outbreaks. Hopefully this will help!
Avatar m tn Anyone ever travled to Mexico for HSV-2 Suppressive Therapy Medication? I've been thinking about going to one of the border towns to buy some medication specifically Acyclovir. I'm working full time and am covered through my insurance for prescription meds and Dr's visits, but later on in the future will need to cut my full time job to possibly part time or less as I will be starting nursing school and willl not have the time to work as much with my time for school.
