Common Questions and Answers about Acyclovir and ebv

Avatar f tn Although, last week I was tested for EBV and CMV, and my blood-work came back positive for IgG and IgM in the EBV test. As a result, I do have a reactivation of the Epstein Barr Virus, which initially I had back in 2003. My next appointment is tomorrow with an Infectious Disease Doc and hopefully the treatment he recommends will be effective against this virus.. The crazy thing is Ive had this reactivation of the EBV for almost a year now and this past year has been the worst year of my life.
1816280 tn?1316893136 I am lucky to have a doctor who also trusts my judgement so keeps me supplied with acyclovir as needed (not much - about once or twice per year. ) I also get bi-monthly massage and am lucky enough to trade for one of these. Also, it is hard to explain how one day you can go walking, or maybe just for 2 hours and then you are zonked out. DO NOT LET PEOPLE GET YOU DOWN!! Believe in yourself and God and find people who will not judge you and be negative. That helps soooo much!!
673575 tn?1226650733 As the antiviral drug, Acyclovir, is not active to the treatment of EBV induced Infectious Mononucleosis, is there any other recently innovated drug or vaccine in market to treat the patients appropriately?
Avatar f tn I have been very unwell and had a blood test which was positive. I knew it wasn’t HSV because of the change in periods, the pain and acyclovir didn’t work. It didn’t even look like herpes. Absolutely furious.
Avatar n tn CSF profile and virological analysis of patients with Epstein–Barr virus encephalomyeloradiculitis and myeloradiculitis Patient 2 with acute encephaloradiculitis A 57‐year‐old woman developed headache, cough, malaise, fever, somnolence and mild lower limb numbness and weakness. Over the next 3 weeks, she developed urinary and faecal incontinence and her legs became paralysed. She was also hypothermic with a core temperature of 33°C.
Avatar m tn Worry and stress over the situation will only make things worse. You need to relax. EBV exists in about 90% of the populace and most cases of it are dormant indefinitely. The rare cases are the ones that have recurrence and chronic EBV. You're lucky to just have fatigue by the way. I know it is strange to look at that as lucky, but things could be worse. I have a multitude of symptoms along with fatigue. My fatigue is kind of like yours.
Avatar n tn But I have to gather it and I just got back from a blood test and so forth. I was wondering are your VCA and EA IgG antibodies high each time you get a EBV recurrance or do you get tested? That is one of the signs of chronic active EBV.
Avatar f tn Hi—I’m on week 5 of acute reactive EBV and am curious about the results of the cleanse from the Medically medium book. I read it and am skeptical. I am also a single mom of two kids and missing a month’s paycheck is, well, challenging to say the least. I NEED to work, but the symptoms aren’t getting better.
1972417 tn?1328356324 ve been reading some symptoms here and I am afraid that m story is not very different. I am not sure what i have. The doctor said that I show that i have EBV, and that it was resulted re-activated. I also have type 1 herpes simplex. Both 90% od the population contract at some point right? so whydoes it affect me? he said my response is low. Vitamin d was 9.8 and he put me on acyclovir. The past week i've had reallly sever agitation, aggression, light-headedness and feelings of blacking out.
Avatar n tn i would check HCV and HBV PCR as well as EBV PCR. Also, I would check a CT scan or U/S of the liver. what are the alkaline phosphatase and bilirubin levels? These are not dangerously elevated so watchful waiting is reasonable.
Avatar n tn The doc only advised me to come back in few months to get re-tested and check the level for EBV...I did not insist as I dont feel too bad and was used to fatigue. Thanks for your help again!
Avatar n tn Greetings Dr. HHH. Hope you’re doing good. I had an outbreak of genital herpes 2months ago. Prompt care doctor said i might have acquired the virus just recently, 2-3weeks before . BUT, the last time that i had unprotected sex was 2years ago and THAT’S IT. That same day, my blood tested NEGATIVE on both STD&HIV. Doc said it might not be on my blood stream yet. I was given acyclovir and it healed. 1. Is this RARE or unusual it took 2years before the outbreak came out? In your 30yrs.
Avatar f tn approximately 90% of people have acquired EBV by age 30 (and we can logically assume that number would be even higher for older people). Therefore, for any cases of cancer in people age 30 or over (which I think is easily the majority, although I don't have numbers on that), 90% will have EBV. So of course it looks like there could be a link there, but that same 90% EBV rate applies to non-cancer patients as well.
974371 tn?1424653129 What do you mean by Mono and Ebv? Those are just different names for the same thing. Which EBV antibodies were high?
Avatar f tn Anyway, The CAEBV is Chronic Active EBV. It is actually very rare in the US and more common in Asia and South America. In the US the EBV virus is in the B cells or those cells that produce antibodies. Anyway it can affect your liver, spleen and cause anemia, low platelets, swollen lymph nodes and a variety of other problems. It can get into the tissues , and organs, it depends on what kind you have or where it goes. It is different depending on the person. Are they sure you have this?
Avatar m tn To this day I am having leg weakness, twitching in both calves, tingling in shoulders and arms, arm weakness, pain in both forearms, pain in thighs, and weird dull ache in right upper lymph node groin area. I am waiting to hear from ID about EBV and Cytomegolovirus. I am also taking a home stool test to see if there are yeast issues in my intestine. Currently I am taking 400mg x 2 a day acyclovir at the advice of the ID provider until he can get more answers.
Avatar m tn t want to spend money needlessly if my doctor is right and once you get EBV, you let it run its course, and if it is chronic, you just have it for life....but statistics suggest that 90 % of the population has EBV, so don't worry. But on the other hand, I do have medical insurance, thank goodness, and don't want something like a cancer forming lymphoma to take over this body or to catch me by surprise.
Avatar f tn Hello all! I'm looking for any hope anyone has to share. I've truly lost any hope since I have been so incredibly sick for far too long. EBV has taken over and there's zero quality to my life anymore. I'm completely alone in this fight to recover. Timeline: July 2021- Starting feeling ill, intermittently. Chalked it up to stress and anxiety September - symptoms of feeling ill become noticeably worse. Thought perhaps I came down with Covid. Tested negative.
Avatar f tn Ask your doctor for a prescription for acyclovir. It puts ebv to bed and has worked wonders. It’s not common practice in the medical community but it only makes sense I don’t know why they aren’t giving it to more people.
Avatar m tn by the time we reach 40, 90% of us has had ebv. it's incredibly common and most of us don't get ill enough from it when infected to even think twice about it. it's not a part of routine testing except for pregnancy. no, you won't get ebv again, you already have it.
Avatar m tn Hi, I would say pitterpat69's answers were all correct, with the exception that EBV can be transmitted anytime, by anyone who has been infected. As pitterpat69 said, when someone is asymptomatic, the chances of transmitting infection are much lower; however, the possibility is still there (maybe that is what she said, and I just read it wrong?).
Avatar m tn My daughter was diagnosed with Behcet's in 2008. Then in 2009 she contracted herpes (hsv2). She is now having an outbreak of herpes (starting to get under control after 2 rounds of valtrex, back on acyclovir for 2 days) and a flare of Behcet's. Prednisone will make the painful vaginal Behcet's lesions go away but will cause another outbreak of herpes. Does anyone have any suggestions? She's about to leave for a required college trip. Thanks.
939031 tn?1289956654 Quix I would be interested in knowing how many people on this Forum have been exposed to HHV-6 and EBV and Chicken Pox. I have had all three, since I was born. I had EBV with the mono as a young teenager. This is a very interesting post and one we ought to explore among our members. Who wants to start a poll? And would you two be interested in knowing such results?
