Avatar f tn I had an bad outbreak on my tongue that was very painful leaving me unable to talk or eat anything for about a week....this started happening after i let a friends baby drink off my water bottle and afterwards i drunk off it without cleaning it....when i went to my doctor she checked my mouth and said she was going provide me with antibiotics.....
Avatar f tn It spreads by contact with the virus through skin to skin contact during asymptomatic shedding of the virus or a lesion. Not canker sores.
Avatar m tn Grace, thank you for the response. I am confident my oral infection is HSV-1. Presents with classic stages: tingles, red, opens, weeps, crusts over, crusts over again, new skin, retreats. The oral sites respond to abreva as well. Out of lip, definitely not a canker sore. As mentioned, my first oral outbreak was two or three years prior to genital infection. I am confident based on symptoms I have oral hsv-1 and know for a fact based on culture of sores I have an hsv-1 genital infection.
Avatar m tn ok i have had large white sores on the inside of my bottom lip and also on the bottom of my tounge on both sides. the ones on the bottom of my tounge are long and extend the length of my tounge from bottom to top and look puss filled... these hurt very badly and i havnt been able to eat much in the last 2 weeks... what could it be? how can i treat it?
Avatar f tn It could be herpes, though unlikely, and I'm curious about if it was swab tested by the person who prescribed the acyclovir? That could have given you the answer you seek. Cold sore virus (HSV 1) doesn't cause canker sores, canker sores are caused by reasons we don't know. HSV 2 infection rarely occurs in the mouth, though it is possible. You wouldn't get new HSV 1 infection since you have it already. It could be canker sores, but they rarely occur in the throat.
Avatar m tn My research shows that canker sores inside the mouth are NOT herpes. However, some people get canker sores in their mouth when they are sick. Canker sores themselves are NOT contagious. Here's a link. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canker_sore Some photos I have seen of genital herpes, the sores can look SIMILAR to canker sores in the mouth. It could be caused by HSV-1 or HSV-2, or maybe something else. Your doctor needs to do a swab of one of the sores and send it for testing.
Avatar f tn Canker sores? herpes? blisters?
Avatar m tn Most canker sores are painful. So are almost all herpes lesions -- even more than canker sores. Sounds like you probably had something else entirely, neither herpes nor a canker sore. I won't even try to guess at other possibilities. This isn't an STD problem, so I won't have more to say.
1188368 tn?1264502458 good luck. I have sores since middle december till end of Jan. 2 months. And was prescribe acyclovir cream and pills 400mg. will take medication and update the posting.
Avatar n tn As stated in my earlier post, I had begun to see what appeared to be canker sores in the inside of my mouth and palate(not any canker sores/ fever blisters) on the outer part of my mouth and lip. Sometimes appearing to be clustered but constatnly relocating, sometimes I feel like I have something in my ear and I have read that herpes HSV1 like to hide behind the ears! GREAT!!
Avatar m tn I know I have had canker sores previously. The acyclovir did seem to help though, so cold sores is likely. I plan on following up and will keep you posted.
Avatar m tn I asked for detailed symptoms because many people confuse aphthous stomatitis (canker sores), which occur inside the mouth, with cold sores, which are on the outside of the lips or elsewhere on the face. With that blood test result, for sure you have HSV2. However, I doubt it is the cause of your oral herpes. HSV2 can infect the oral area, but usually along with genital, rarely by itself; and recurrent oral herpes due to HSV2 is very rare.
Avatar f tn For the past 3 years, my husband has strange outbreaks about 3 times a year of a really really sore mouth - his mouth looks like he has sever canker sores on the inside - and along with this, he gets small blisters on the joints of his fingers, deeply under the skin that are painful. he has no other symptoms and just waits it out. at it's most severe, he couldn't eat for about 10 days and that was the first time he got this. our dr.
Avatar m tn google canker sores - usually they are good at explaining the difference. typically cold sores are on the lips and externally and canker sores/mouth ulcers are inside the mouth.
Avatar n tn If you got these sores in your mouth swabbed, then I suppose that would prove them positive for being hsv1, if you have only had a blood test, definitely get the sores swabbed next time they occur. My canker sores have always given me a run down feeling and they reappear when I am stressed or triggered by certain foods. Mine are quite painful and happen often. I was diagnosed with anemia and von willebrands (sp) disease when I was 15 so that may be a reason for the recurrence.
Avatar f tn My medical person told me she thinks it is genital herpes but there are sores, but no clear blisters. Is it possible to have canker sores in the genital area? there is no discharge, and no odor, just sores that I cannot see, like little pea sized knots, terrible itching all over the area, itching moving into urethra, and burning on urination plus burning of the sores on urination. My phys assistant says herpes over the phone, told me to increase famvir and use an acyclovir cream.
Avatar f tn Can this be hsv1 or hsv2 with just throat symptoms and no others? Or could it be just coincidence and canker sores (I did feel it start post eating a crusty bread roll which could have scratched throat but I think that's clutching at straws!).
Avatar f tn I do not get cold sores, but I do get canker sores. Does having shingles predispose me to these other forms of the virus? Can I give any of these virus to another person through kissing, touching or sexual intercourse?
Avatar f tn Hi and welcome. If you have sores inside your mouth and they are not going away they dont appear to be herpes as they do run a cycle from appearing to healing. A person can have an outbreak with an initial infection there but its an odd place for recurrent outbreaks. What makes you believe these are herpes sores?
Avatar m tn i know these are canker sores since they are white and inside my mouth. im sure she doesnt have hsv1... she does get cold sores from time to time but very rarely... could i have caught this from a toilet seat at work or something...lol i know it sounds weird but im just worried about it.
Avatar n tn I agree with MildlyInterestedYetHopelessyConfused. Changes in pH can spur canker sores to show up. Also, canker sores can be caused by agitation in your mouth, sucking, etc. Which, if you gave head, is essentially what went on. There are various types of canker sores. From what I've found out through research and medical inquiry, it's not because your boyfriend is 'unclean' or the general 'cleanliness' of your mouth. No worries there.
Avatar m tn i have been researching online a little and it seems that herpes are just cold sores and i dont have cold sores. my tongue and inside of my lips get canker sores at least once a month and they are really painful. are canker sores different from herpes? is there anyway to stop them from coming? are they contagious?
Avatar f tn Some doctors prescribe mouthwashes that contain tetracycline, an antibiotic, for canker sores. If you get recurrent canker sores, your toothpaste may be the culprit. Try toothpaste that does not contain the detergent sodium lauryl sulfate. This is a detergent that may cause the mucous surfaces in the moth to dry out, leaving them vulnerable to attack from acidic foods. Also, do not use the same toothbrush for longer than one month.
Avatar f tn Canker sores and cold sores are two different things. Canker sores are not viral or bacterial in nature, but usually caused by stress or tissue injury. Cold sores are viral in nature caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV). No, the chicken pox vaccine is for a completely different virus, Varicella Zoster - also a member of the herpes family but not the same as HSV. It would have no impact on cold sores or canker sores.
