Common Questions and Answers about Acyclovir and birth control

famvir

Avatar m tn My daughter was diagnosed with Behcet's in 2008. Then in 2009 she contracted herpes (hsv2). She is now having an outbreak of herpes (starting to get under control after 2 rounds of valtrex, back on acyclovir for 2 days) and a flare of Behcet's. Prednisone will make the painful vaginal Behcet's lesions go away but will cause another outbreak of herpes. Does anyone have any suggestions? She's about to leave for a required college trip. Thanks.
Avatar f tn I got off birth control and starting using raspberry leaf extract ( or raspberry leaf tea) and I don't have breakouts even before my period anymore unless I am sick and immune system is really down. I believe the raspberry leaf extract is supposed to correct any out of balance hormones, estrogen, testosterone, etc., so that may help and it doesn't taste bad if you make a tea with it. I order from Mountainrose herbs online. Hope it helps..
Avatar n tn t think there is any contraindication in terms of taking it when on birth control. You could go to the website of the drug and look up FAQ's, or ask a pharmacist.
Avatar f tn if you are on daily suppressive therapy, use condoms and avoid sex anytime you have anything going on genitally, a male partner is 99% likely each year NOT to contract hsv2 from you. to give you something to compare it to, if you only used the pill for birth control, you are only 92% likely each year not to become pregnant.
Avatar f tn The outbreaks aren't to bothersome I just want to try and see if I can get them under control without the suppressive therapy. I wouldn't mind going back on it. But I feel that if I keep my stress level down exercise more and eat healthier maybe they will cease for a while. I used to get outbreaks every couple of weeks to once a month.
Avatar f tn one day i went to go check the pills she gave me because i was on birth control and wanted to know if it would affect it so i looked up the name acyclovir to find out it was for the herpes simplex virus....i freaked out and called and asked them why they gave me a pill for herpes if i didn't have that and the nurse on the phone told me that its for more than one thing and that its best not to google things cause it give me false indications.....
Avatar f tn Long-term use of acyclovir for up to 10 years for HSV suppression is effective and well tolerated. Acyclovir is also approved for use in children, is available in some countries over the counter in cream formulation for herpes labialis, and has been monitored in over 1000 pregnancies. Safety monitoring data from clinical trials of valacyclovir, involving over 3000 immunocompetent and immunocompromised persons receiving long-term therapy for HSV suppression, were analyzed.
Avatar f tn I have never had any symptoms and as far as I know neither has he and do I need further testing done? And if so I would rather not go back to the Dr. I visited before since all they would pretty much say was hey you have herpes, wouldnt return my calls about or answer my questions about antiviral meds for maintenance . They just said if you have a ob call us and we'll give you a Rx for acyclovir. Well I have never had an ob! Sorry if this is hard to follow.
Avatar f tn I was told I had genital herpes 3 days ago. The outbreak started about 6 days ago. This is the first outbreak and it's extremely painful. The Dr gave me Acyclovir to take for 7 days. How long will it take for it to stop hurting? How long will it take for the Acyclovir to work?
Avatar f tn t think we have info on famvir dosing during pregnancy. We recommend the higher immunosuppression doses of valtrex and acyclovir during the last month of pregnancy. Your body is naturally immunosuppressed during pregnancy so it takes the higher doses to better control the virus. since you were infected with hsv2 prior to pregnancy, the odds of transmission to your baby during birth are less than 1% as long as you don't have any obvious symptoms during delivery.
Avatar f tn s and viral shedding, the once daily doses of acyclovir were not effective. the half life of acyclovir is very short and just taking it daily is not enough to keep the virus under control adequately.
Avatar f tn My bf and I have been dating for almost two months and I am on birth control. We are in a committed relationship and I want to know I ama safe. Should I be confident that I am indeed hiv negative? 6 weeks= neg 9 weeks= neg 12 weeks= neg 14 weeks= neg Thank you for your response.
Avatar m tn I've been getting cold sores for as long as I can remember. I have never been tested for HSV 1 but always assumed that's what it is. I used to only get 1 or 2 every year or two. But, recently they have been more and more frequent. I used the 200mg acyclovir at times when I felt I was getting an OB and it worked very well. Although, there have been times, once or twice, when it did not work and I experienced the worst OB's I've ever had.
Avatar m tn I have had oral herpes for years, assuming all this time it is HSV1. I control it with well with acyclovir.
Avatar f tn I have heard about the patch and the IUD and wanted to know all about them or any other really effective birth control. I don't want anything that will increase my acne, weight, or flow. I have bad acne and flow as it is.
360318 tn?1340393363 So my question is should I get on birth control? How will this effect the way I act and the way I feel? I have heard bad stories about the pill, and that it makes you really cranky, and I am already cranky once I ovulate, and I am worried my boyfriend will leave me if I am more cranky, because he has threatened to leave a few times when I had ovulated and had been cranky.
Avatar f tn I would never recommend the depo shot. I was on it for a year and ever since ive had bad headaches and problems with my bones aching. It ***** the calcium out of your bones and I was always small (110-115 pounds) before I started it and it made me gain weight I was never able to keep off and stayed around 140 when before I could never even make myself gain weight. It totally messed up my body and periods and I bled for 2-3 weeks everytime I had to get the next shot.
Avatar f tn I've never used birth control because I don't want my hormones messed up, and I've heard it making people bleed heavier and longer so I never wanted to do that. But now I'm about to have my second child, and I don't want anymore. Tubal is out of the question because the Dr won't do it at 23 yrs old. Sooooo I need some birth control options that are safe and lasts a while. Any good ones?
7670156 tn?1401987192 Hi ladies, I know we're all pregnant and all, but yesterday at my check up my doctor said I should start thinking about what kind of birth control I want after my baby girl is here. I've never been on birth control (and still did very well, baby was planned) what do you ladies suggest worked best for you? I don't want to worry about another baby for a long while at least a few years. And that implant that goes in your arm scares me.
Avatar f tn I just stuck with the pill because I could remember to take it at the same time every day reguardless if what works best for you remember, no birth control is %100 effective. I got pregnant with my son on 5 years of religious birth control. And my friends mom got pregnant with an iud. Birth control and protected sex is always your best bet!
Avatar f tn The only birth control ive ever taken was the pill and it made me sick alot. Honestly the right birth control depends on the person. For example if they can go get the show every three months or if they are good with taking a pill every day. Its all aboit what you are comfortable with.
Avatar f tn If your still on the birth control still and you believe it's made this worse talk to your doctor about coming off the birth control and see whether there's any other birth control that will be better suited
Avatar f tn i was on the pill, shot and patch and i ended up pregnant all three times, posible u could be if u dont get ur period or its close to get ur peroid if u are worried i would get a test and check and if so check a couple more times i sure did 5 each time and then went to the doc and took a test there to and then i was.
Avatar f tn My friend told me it only took a few days and I believed her because she is on birth control also. The papers that came with them didn't tell me how long. Right after I had sex, I started getting headache's everyday. Is that a sign of pregnancy or is it just the pills causing them? And is how long for sure does it take to get in your system?
