Avatar n tn I went up there and took her to the doctor and she was basically told is was a stomach virus (gastroenteritis) drink plenty of fluids and it should go away in a couple of days but when I look up Gastroenteritis it says that it's common in people with weaken immune system caused by HIV. She took her 3 month birth control shot the morning before but I'm sure that didn't cause Gastroenteritis. My question is should I be concerned about HIV at this point.
Avatar n tn I spent 4 days in the hospital with electrolytes out of balance due to dehydration from uncontrollable diahrrea and vomiting; diagnosed as Acute Gastroenteritis. A year ago I began having intermittent bouts of vomiting bile every few months. Have been on all PPI's and Acid Reflux controlled pretty well but still have vomiting episodes. What's your recommendation? This leaves me wiped out for a couple of days with tenderness in stomach and right abdomen.
Avatar f tn Eclampsia is difficult not to be diagnosed since eclamptic patients are seizing and have liver failure with all its associated symptoms. Regardless, it can cause acute renal failure albeit not commonly. The pathophysiology is not yet known exactly but it is theorized it has something to do with vasoconstriction and DIC.
Avatar m tn outrageous AST/ALT and bilirubin numbers, enlarged liver. Numbers coming back down so nicely means either 1) it's gone or 2) it's slipped into chronic (long term, sticking around to mess up your life) phase. Don't decide on your own, ask the hepatologist.
Avatar f tn The bowel problems of diarrhea and nausea after eating may be due to GERD(gastro esophageal reflux disease), acute non-GI infections (pyelonephritis, pneumonia),gastroenteritis, liver diseases, pancreatic disorder, peptic disease of upper GI tract, gastric carcinoma,CNS diseases like infections, tumors, multiple sclerosis and metabolic disturbances like diabetes and adrenal insufficiency. Avatar m tn If you had protected sex, chances of HIV are less. However, if condoms were used, then they can leak or burst. Yes, acute HIV infection can start within three days. However, shooting pain and diarrhea can be due to viral or bacterial gastroenteritis or stomach flu as well. I suggest, you get stool examined for infection.
Avatar n tn This is what I've got after some google-ing. Not that under Pathophysiology, it mentions about reactivating by sunlight. The difference being in food allergy the IgE antibodies are increased. If symptoms are acute it can even be due to an infection, gastroenteritis. When she was born she was perfectly healthy, but once I had to return to work I began to give her formula and that's when she began to have these complications. She began to have watery diarrhea and vomit. I took her to the doctor and they said she had gastroenteritis, but it's been a while now and she is still the same? Does anyone know what could possibly be wrong? Thank you.
Avatar n tn Hello! I seem to have unfortunately caught gastroenteritis. I was given Ondansentron and it helped immensely. However, I can't sleep. I'm so wired and my stomach still hurts but luckily, no side effects. Is this normal? Is it the gastroenteritis or the drug?
Avatar f tn I was hospitalized a few years ago with severe vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain and dehydration. I was diagnosed with gastroenteritis and acute pancreatitis. This is the only major GI problem I have ever had. I am very slender, 105 pounds, so I was wondering if maybe it was normal to feel a lump during digestion just because I am skinny and it's easy to feel my anatomy, or if I should be more concerned. Thanks!
Avatar m tn I went to the emergency room, they made an ecography on my belly and a complete blood count. The doctor said the CBC was totally fine, but the ecography revealed gastroenteritis. She gave me paracetamol, ciprofloxacin and bismuth pectin. The fever promptly went away and did not came back, I still have diarrhea but much milder (I'm writing this a day later). I was wondering if this could be acute retroviral syndrome.

Avatar n tn My 2 year old has blood in his stool, dark not bright red, and when I took him to the ER, they said acute gastroenteritis. Basically, acid reflux or stomach ulcers. They didnt do any radiology tests on him, just blood work and a stool sample. We have to wait at least 48 hours to get the stool sample results to find out if it could be a bacterial infection.

444337 tn?1428073510 Why the felt the need to have that particular illustration, when a medical illustration of the liver would have sufficed, is bewildering. For me, this is unacceptable. Could you imagine the outcry you'd get with some other diseases if they put a stereotype illustration there? You can submit "feedback" using the button/link at the bottom of the sidebar if you so desire. I've already voiced my displeasure. Thanks for reading.
Avatar f tn On day 7 of a severe case of gastroenteritis. Everything seems to have calmed down, but once I try and eat anything stomach cramps start, which are unbearable. Sometimes followed by diarrhoea. Is this normal after a severe case of gastroenteritis or do I need to see my G.P again?
Avatar f tn I went to the doc after 5 days. He said its just viral gastroenteritis. I looked up the condition and it says you have vomiting and/or diarrhea, but i have neither. I am worried it is appendicitis, but the appendix is on the right side, not left. I am really in pain but i am taking my meds as described. Does this sound like viral gastroenteritis to you? I am in such severe pain just laying here typing this and barely moving.. Please help. Thank you.
Avatar n tn Hello, Diarrhea and vomitings can be provoked either by an intestinal infection or by illness somewhere else in the body. When they begin suddenly, the problem is usually gastroenteritis (or stomach flu), most often caused by a virus and sometimes by bacteria and parasites. Gastroenteritis is an irritation and infection of the digestive tract. It can often cause sudden and sometimes violent upsets and may be confused with spastic colitis.
