Avatar n tn I went up there and took her to the doctor and she was basically told is was a stomach virus (gastroenteritis) drink plenty of fluids and it should go away in a couple of days but when I look up Gastroenteritis it says that it's common in people with weaken immune system caused by HIV. She took her 3 month birth control shot the morning before but I'm sure that didn't cause Gastroenteritis. My question is should I be concerned about HIV at this point.
Avatar f tn He is paralyzed on the left side, has vision and swallowing problems, but can speak/communicate well and his mind is very sharp. He was sent to an acute care rehab hospital on 1/5/08. They said that their goal is to offer high intensity therapy and get patients off to a good start. Today. less than two weeks later, I was told that they plan to discharge him on 1/31/08 and that he will need to go to a skilled nursing facility.
Avatar f tn The bowel problems of diarrhea and nausea after eating may be due to GERD(gastro esophageal reflux disease), acute non-GI infections (pyelonephritis, pneumonia),gastroenteritis, liver diseases, pancreatic disorder, peptic disease of upper GI tract, gastric carcinoma,CNS diseases like infections, tumors, multiple sclerosis and metabolic disturbances like diabetes and adrenal insufficiency. Avatar n tn I spent 4 days in the hospital with electrolytes out of balance due to dehydration from uncontrollable diahrrea and vomiting; diagnosed as Acute Gastroenteritis. A year ago I began having intermittent bouts of vomiting bile every few months. Have been on all PPI's and Acid Reflux controlled pretty well but still have vomiting episodes. What's your recommendation? This leaves me wiped out for a couple of days with tenderness in stomach and right abdomen.
Avatar m tn t seen her since a couple of days after she was moved from the acute care hospital to the nursing home. Very cold today, and I am working outside. If anyone happens to know someone who is in Trump Pavilion, her name is Carole Reisman and she is in room 228. Maybe you could talk to her for me.
Avatar m tn If you had protected sex, chances of HIV are less. However, if condoms were used, then they can leak or burst. Yes, acute HIV infection can start within three days. However, shooting pain and diarrhea can be due to viral or bacterial gastroenteritis or stomach flu as well. I suggest, you get stool examined for infection.
1516809 tn?1345082764 Dear Searchlight, I don't think you are asking too much. You need some help, an advocate for your father, so that you aren't carrying the full load. It makes sense to me that the PCP should be the one creating a care plan and coordinating care for your dad. I'm wondering what you can do to bring his current PCP back to a partnering position with you, so that she can get over her issues, and get on with the business of helping your dad through this.
Avatar f tn Hi, you're asking how to take Plan B the termination pill because being pregnant the second time right after giving birth would be REALLY unwelcome. Well, you need to talk to your doctor about a couple of things. First, if you are nursing, can you take Plan B. You most likely can but I'd double check. Hormones are involved in breast milk production and Plan B is a big dose of hormones.
Avatar f tn I never had any pain or trouble. Plan on breast feeding my second. I know a lot of people who did have trouble though. Everyone is different.
Avatar n tn My 2 year old has blood in his stool, dark not bright red, and when I took him to the ER, they said acute gastroenteritis. Basically, acid reflux or stomach ulcers. They didnt do any radiology tests on him, just blood work and a stool sample. We have to wait at least 48 hours to get the stool sample results to find out if it could be a bacterial infection.
Avatar f tn This could be due to gastrointestinal issues like acute gastroenteritis or infection. Have this checked by you doctor for further evaluation. Your medical history and direct clinical examination are important to determine the underlying cause. Take care and do keep us posted.

Avatar n tn Hello, Diarrhea and vomitings can be provoked either by an intestinal infection or by illness somewhere else in the body. When they begin suddenly, the problem is usually gastroenteritis (or stomach flu), most often caused by a virus and sometimes by bacteria and parasites. Gastroenteritis is an irritation and infection of the digestive tract. It can often cause sudden and sometimes violent upsets and may be confused with spastic colitis.

In fact, some families consider a nursing home for their aging loved ones who mostly facing Alzheimer also. They believe that any nursing home can accommodate and will take care of their loved ones, as well as to protect them and make them feel valued and loved.
Avatar m tn It depends, if the stroke is stabilized, he may be shifted to a nursing home for long term care. 10% of stroke patients require care in a nursing home or other long-term facility. For skilled nursing facility, stroke survivors require daily skilled nursing or rehabilitation services that can be provided only on an inpatient basis. So, he may have been shifted. Regards.

Avatar f tn Hello, I cannot confirm without examination, but it sounds like gastroenteritis. It can often cause sudden and sometimes violent upsets and may be confused with spastic colitis.Dizziness is caused by loss of water and electrolyte imbalance because of vomitings. Take adequate fluids throughout the day. The BRAT diet (ie, bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) or soft easily digestible semisolid diet can also be taken. Antimicrobial therapy is indicated for some bacterial gastroenteritis infections.
Avatar n tn We tried to get dad into an acute care facility but were told he did not meet minimum requirements. Acute care for rehab centers normally require a minimum of three hours rehab 5-6 days a week. When my dad was tested, he did not consistently respond to commands. I am positive that he could hear, and he responded some days much better than other days. Keep telling your father that you are working on getting him to a higher level of care.
Avatar m tn All of the nursing homes are crummy and I don't agree with a nursing home stay as a cure or treatment for depression. Nursing homes are necessary and fulful a definite need, but psychiatric treatment is not one of those needs. In the best nursing homes there is a shortage of staff. They treat "depression" with a chemical straightjacket. Furthermore, the diet in most homes is lacking and good nutrition is part and parcel of treatment for depression.

The difference being in food allergy the IgE antibodies are increased. If symptoms are acute it can even be due to an infection, gastroenteritis.
