My sister's doctor says he can't perscribe Actiq for her any longer because she doesn't have "active" cancer. She gets severe attackes in her throat (especially when she tries to eat) because of radiation treatment. Is there any truth to what her doctor says?

I was never completely pain free except with iv morphine and then only needed 7mg. The high dose of Actiq was introduced when I had problems with major surgery for a second time I am still currently in withdrawals after a quick 2 month taper from Actiq and fentanyl patch but do not regret my decision. It has however given my Gp and Pain Dr Lots to think about. My drug councillor made me hand all my left over Actiq back to the pharmacy to stop temptation. She was 100% correct in that decision.

I have been for an assessment for addiction help, but I am still waiting for the help !!! so I may be tapering too quickly, as getting a lot of pain too, but that's bearable. Abstral is for breakthrough pain and is the sublingual form of fentanyl. I take this as I cannot absorb morphine or other pain medications due to surgery on my bowel as a result of cancer treatment. ive just come off fentanyl patches onto the morphine so i can taper down, my aunt who died was addicted to heroin so i know a bit about it so i just wanted to know the equivalent so i can understand roughly how much morphine im taking. thank you to anyone that can help. kind regards, carrie.

About 1 month ago my pain management doctor increased my dosage of morphine sulfate from 10 gm to 30 mg (1 every 12 hours). Shortly after I began taking the 30mg morphine sulfate, I started to develop a slight rash. Over the last week, the rash has become much worse and a real problem. I've been taking over the counter benadryl tabs to get some relief from the rash which is helping a little to relief the itching and rash.

i weened myself off oxycontin in 03 without much withdrawl, but my dr. then placed me on 400 mcg actiq 5 times a day and 30 mg kadian once daily. the kadian never seemed like the problem, i could take it or not, but i could not go without the actiq.i always ran out b4 appt time and so forth. i realized i had a problem so i began to detox myself, and my dental bills were racking up from sucking lolipops all day. my dr. @ my clinic was and is a wonderful dr.

Oxycontin is twice as strong as Morphine - therefore, if your were taking 80mg Oxycontin a day, the equivalent Morphine daily amount would be 160mg. For your dental surgery you should have had painkillers over and above what you usually take. Your medical carers/providers/dental surgeon should really know about this sort of thing. Now I have taken a blood test for oxycontin only to make sure this is negative and a true false positive because I do not take this pain med.

My mother who has cronic back and shoulder pain is being taken off of fentanyl 100mcg patch and 7.5/500mg and being put on morphine 60mg 2x daily and then morphine sulfate 15mg every 4 hours for breakthough pain. What I'm wondering is there going to be withdrawl or is the morphine going to have enough of the same stuff in it. If not what kind of withdrawl systems will there be to watch for.

As Mary indicated, it is a large dose. Assuming you mean "mcg" vs "mg", this is roughly equivalent to 300 to 400 mg of morphine. You must be under a doctor's care.

Hi have done a taper programme for Actiq now down to 4 a day but bad cravings and withdrawal daily so I am going to stop them now. Has anyone been through this already and got any ideas for me to follow to make it easier. Its the craving that are the worst. Once I've done this the patch is next any ideas there too please?

400mcg/hr is the equivalent of 960mg of oral morphine!!! (a 50mcg patch is equivalent to 120mg of morphine). That is truly an astronomical dose!!! Tapering from fentanyl patches is difficult as they cant easily but reduced in small increments. I woukd suggest trying to taper slowly to about 100mcg (they make a 12mcg patch for tapering purposes) then switch to an oral medication and taper from that.

Anyone heard of this? My husband who is addicted to Morphine just said he got this from someone to help with his anxiety. I told him about the Thomas Recipe and we have not been able to find any Valium, is this equivalent?

Pain management is about managing pain to allow you to perform most activities of daily living while keeping the opiate levels as low as possible, and incorporating other types of medications, treatments and therapies to reduce pain further and keep it at manageable levels.

Hello, I never written here before but this is a site I do some reading on whenever I have an issue. So I am finding myself in a bind, my medication is going to be out by Thursday, I'm taking Oxycodone 7.5mg 2x a day and narco 10mg 3x a day and tramadol 50MG 1x before bed . I'm going to be 100% out of both till Monday evening because my doctor is out till then and terrified of the pain I'm going to be in and the withdrawals I'm going to have to face.
