Actiq lollipops cancer patients

Common Questions and Answers about Actiq lollipops cancer patients

actiq

655467 tn?1304959950 I see that the manufacturer recommends this only for extreme breakthrough pain in terminal cancer patients, preferably in a hospice type situation.
Avatar f tn Many many doctors prescribed actiq when they knew it was only meant for cancer patients. When it first came out Medicare paid for it, then around 2007 Medicare decided it would no longer pay unless the person had cancer, many insurance companies followed suit Now unless the doctor is a pain doctor they are not allowed to prescribe such high dose pain meds Can your sister ask for a fentanyl patch?
Avatar n tn There is now oral Fentanyl in a dissolvable tablet called Fentora but it is indicated only for cancer pain. However, there are a few patients with chronic non-cancer pain that have been prescribed Actiq (the fentanyl lolipops) or Fentora if and only if all other treatments failed and they are experiencing intractable pain, also known as suicide pain.
19164880 tn?1473283520 I found fentanyl did not alleviate all pain hence the actiq and that just gave a feel good factor (prescribed for cancer). The dose of Actiq was horrendous and so addictive. I was never completely pain free except with iv morphine and then only needed 7mg. The high dose of Actiq was introduced when I had problems with major surgery for a second time I am still currently in withdrawals after a quick 2 month taper from Actiq and fentanyl patch but do not regret my decision.
Avatar m tn My appeal included my personal history, relevant medical charts, case-studies/articles supporting Actiq in non-cancer pain, in migraine specifically and opinion articles from Pain Management specialists who believe that it was silly to differentiate between cancer pain and non-cancer pain. Essentially they are denying the coverage due to the fact that the FDA has approved the medication only for cancer treatment.
Avatar f tn However, the new doctor is not registered with TIRF REMS to be able to prescribe Actiq that I have been taking for 9 years. I am post stage 3 breast cancer, double mastectomy, peripheral neuropathy and lymphedema to name a few of my issues not to mention I have tried every opiod on the market and I'm also opiod tolerant. He stated that he is not willing to register and that I need to find a new Doctor who is.
Avatar f tn I have survive my cancer and want a life again. I have halved my abstral (actiq) having sweaty hot /cold episodes and 2 episode of very severe pain after eating. I get pain meds due to radiation damage which caused obstructions and adhesions and needed more surgery. I will need surgery in the future and it concerns me what I will get for pain if I remain on these drugs getting more tolerant. I feel its better to come of them now than livein a drug haze.
Avatar f tn Hi Mellie, You have been such a great help to so many of us here and I am deeply saddened to hear of your illness. I pray that you will be cured of this cancer soon. Have they tried neuronin or lyrica for the nerve pain? I take Morphine ER and it gave me horrible headaches for the first three months or so and then they went away. I am not sure how long you have been taking the morphine. I also take oxycodone for breakthrough pain and you are right, it doesn't last very long.
Avatar f tn Santos may believe that Actiq might be an extreme prescription. It was originally intended for Cancer patients extreme pain. My concern, as is many in the medical community, is that over reliance on a medication so strong is inappropriate. This is not to say it's not unnecessary, but at some point the patient needs to attempt another measure to see if it is possible to control pain with a less potent and dangerous drug.
Avatar f tn Hi coming off Actiq and down to 4/ day and decided to stop. Patch to go next, but I will wait a little to see how I go My biggest problem is getting out my bed due to severe lethargy. I am taking vitamin and mineral supplements has anyone any other ideas I may benefit from. I just want my life back. I know I'll be restricted due to all my ill health problems resulting from cancer therapies, I just want more ooph, energy and motivation. Any suggestions please.
Avatar f tn i weened myself off oxycontin in 03 without much withdrawl, but my dr. then placed me on 400 mcg actiq 5 times a day and 30 mg kadian once daily. the kadian never seemed like the problem, i could take it or not, but i could not go without the actiq.i always ran out b4 appt time and so forth. i realized i had a problem so i began to detox myself, and my dental bills were racking up from sucking lolipops all day. my dr. @ my clinic was and is a wonderful dr.
Avatar m tn The generic is Oral Transmucosal Fentanyl Citrate (OTFC) and the trademark name is Actiq®, manufactured by Cephalon. I would also check to see if your insurance covers them. I wish you the best...
Avatar f tn I was a nurse for years. I have been on opana and actiq for a few years now. I have passed every test for 3 years on my bi-monthly urine screen. All of a sudden I am showing positive for oxycontin and I have NEVER taken this med. Now I know that actiq, opana, stadol, and oxycontin are synthentic oipioids. Now I have taken a blood test for oxycontin only to make sure this is negative and a true false positive because I do not take this pain med.
Avatar f tn I was on Fentanyl (2 patches 150 total) and Actiq lollipops 4x p/day for break thru pain. I had no life. Anyway, when I got pregnant they immediately sent me to an addiction clinic to get me on Methadone. Methadone is considered safe for pregnancy. It took about two weeks to switch and I ended up miscarrying (probably for the best - I was not in the best of health). My point is Methadone gave me some life back. I was suddenly able to get out of bed and do some things with my family.
Avatar m tn There appears to be is a move to attempt make this patch only available to cancer patients for short term use, rather than for long term chronic pain. The reason for this is it is highly addictive. Intravenous Fentanyl is used routinely, as a one off in anaesthesia during operations, to control intraoperative pain and is highly effective. One off use under controlled means does not produce addiction.
Avatar m tn Hi, I am new to the group. I was diagnosed with stage 4 throat cancer in 2009 and went through chemo and radiation. My doctor put me on Actiq and they worked well. Here I am 4 years later and am still taking 4 or 5 200 strength and 2 400 strength a day. Of course I have become more tolerant over time and it takes more to feel better. I just had to have all my teeth pulled due to radiation affects over time. Now I really don't have that much pain.
356929 tn?1246389756 Is it just perhaps because older patients do not participate in forums such as this OR should doctors re evaluate their criteria for "age onset" of Ovarian Cancer ?? Maybe they should take more seriously those who come in with symptoms suggestive of Ovarian Cancer regardless of the age.. Which we've said all along but........ Just a ponder ....
Avatar f tn Hi have done a taper programme for Actiq now down to 4 a day but bad cravings and withdrawal daily so I am going to stop them now. Has anyone been through this already and got any ideas for me to follow to make it easier. Its the craving that are the worst. Once I've done this the patch is next any ideas there too please?
Avatar f tn Ok so I have seen a lot of women that swear by preggie pops. I was looking online as to where sells them. but upon looking at each stores site they all say not sold in stores and to order them online. Are there any stores that actually sell them in store??
Avatar f tn re supposed to help settle your stomach. Keep some with u. You can try chewing gum or sucking mints also they sell these lollipops called preggie pops u can try. If it's not helping tho ur dr can prescribe you something thatll help. Remember stay very hydrated it's super easy to dehydrate during pregnancy and u can end up in the hospital needing ivs.
