I'm currently taking Doxycycline for anti-malaria reasons. I was wondering if it's unsafe to take for 5 consecutive months?

Hello, It can be due to cystic acne. Cystic acne is the most severe form of acne. Cystic acne affects deeper skin tissue than the more superficial inflammation from common acne. Since they are severe, so systemic medications are usually required. The treatment consists of topical and oral antibiotics, tretinoin, oral contraceptives in females and Intralesional corticosteroid injections. Very severe cases may need excision and drainage.

I've been taking doxycycline for acne on my back for a few weeks (50 mg twice daily). The doxycycline was prescribed for inflamed pimples on my back, which would be sore and red. Each individual pimple would go away on its own but I would generally have a couple new ones every week. I had been having acid reflux before I started taking the doxycycline, and it seems to be worse now. Yesterday, I rolled over on my stomach while in bed and my esophagus was burned by acid.

Doctor, do you think these patches of folliculitis could be from food allergy, like some facial acne. Also i have taken doxycycline before and that took it away for the most part. would starting another regiment of that help clear the infection?

So I've been on doxycycline capsules for 12 days being treatment for acne, I still have a dose of bout 1and a half months to use. However on the 12day which was yesterday I had unprotected sex with my partner and bout 4 hours later I used postinor 1(2 tabs) and 12 hours after used another dose again of postinor 1(2tabs also) I'm kinda worried cuz I later got to find out that antibiotics affect the rate of effectiveness of oral contraceptives.

I don't usually get acne, but get a pimple from time to time. About 36 hours ago, before going to sleep, I noticed a small group of bumps on my face. I instantly thought "where did this come from!?". It is located in the area below my lower lip (left side), above my chin. They don't itch, they don't look like regular acne. This has not happened to me ever. I was prescribed doxycycline, an antibiotic also used in the treatment of STD's ( I believe.) A few weeks later I experienced a rash on my inner thigh and scrotum where it touches my inner thigh on both sides. This lasted for a few weeks but eventually subsided with regular cleaning and showering and trying not to get too sweaty.

Because i finished doxycycline and found out this is treatment for syphilis can i still find out if i contracted syphilis? Would there be antibodies showing recent/past infection? Probably you were no longer infectious within a couple days of starting the doxycycline. Routine advice is exactly what you were told, no sex until completing treatment -- but doing so toward the end of treatment shouldn't be a problem and did not put your partner at risk. And missing a single pill makes no difference. However, you don't mention whether your partner was treated.

Problem started while I was taking minocycline for acne. Went in to student health. NP RXed 10 days doxycycline, 100 mg PO BID, sent me to ER. Had an ultrasound, confirmed it was epididymitis plus a hydrocele. They gave me a shot of ceftriaxone and told me to continue with the doxycycline. The ceftriaxone helped a great deal (swelling went down almost immediately) but as I continued the course of doxy the problem began to get worse again. I followed up with a urologist.

I was diagnosed with a steriod induced rosacea, my question is this, will there be continual break outs while on treatment? I've been on treatment for a little over 2 weeks and it seems as if my face is getting bad again. It has not completly cleared up but is about 75% better then what it was before I was diagnosed. I am no longer on the steroid, off for 2 weeks now but am having "acne" if you will, breaking out still.
