Avatar n tn 17 year old daughter having stomach issues, just got a positive test for celiac, has bad acne, derm wants to put her on accutane. I am worried about the accutane and her stomach. Not sure celiac is only cause of stomach aches. Also birth control pill used to control acne, then she went off and it came back worse than ever. She is back on the pill for almost 3 months and it is not working. Why?
Avatar n tn A complete evaluation of your acne problem is necessary. Other options may be available for acne treatment. The severity and extent of your acne has to be considered here. There are certain factors to consider when using accutane. This includes pregnancy , use of other medications and psychiatric side effects .
Avatar n tn Hello. I have been on Accutane for the last 5 months. My acne is clearing and I have no new breakouts, however I have lots of red marks where the acne was (post inflamatory hyperpigmentation possibly?)? Anyway, I was just curious if blue light or red light treatment would help, and can I use the light treatment while on Accutane? If not, what else could I do to reduce the appearance of the red marks? The acne is on my chest and is very hard to look at.
Avatar f tn I was on accutane when I was a teenager, I am now 26 and have been acne free for years. Sudenly I started to break out again. Does accutane stop working years after taking it? Can I take it again?
Avatar n tn Recently I went to a new dermatologist who diagnosed me with Acne Inversa, however, he stated it was curable and prescribed me Accutane. Upon further reading about Acne Inversa, I found out that not only was Acne Inversa incurable, but also very difficult to treat. Recently the disease has seemingly spread past my buttocks area onto the back of my thighs and my waistband area. 1) What is the current and most effective treatment for Acne Inversa?
Avatar n tn Nothing really seems to help and its not easy to apply meds to back acne. I want to try accutane since nothing else really helps, because it works on the whole body and finally because its the only medication that could possibly put my acne into complete remission. I get the feeling that my derm won't prescribe it to me, although I'm gonna ask him this week, and wanted to know if I began self medicating myself how much should I take, when, and with what kind of meal.
Avatar f tn t tried any topical or antibiotic prescriptions, and my acne is not severe, they thought accutane would be best as a first measure because it will knock out the acne, which will mean no additional scars. I was not well informed by my dermatologist about what I can expect my scarring to be like during the course of the accutane. She just said that if we stop the acne, we stop the scarring, then several months after we can look into their array of scar treatments.
Avatar m tn My father had severe acne until he took accutane for 3 months at a high dose without recieving any negative side effects, which cleared up 90 percent of the acne. My mother didnt have acne. I am ready to go on accutane, but the thing is that I do submission wrestling. If the accutane permanently damaged my joints or hindered my athletic performance I would be devastated. My question is, how long should I take accutane and at what dose?
Avatar n tn There is no miracle cure for acne. Cortisone shots reduce inflammation and allergic symptoms but can actually induce acne. The drug considered the "gold standard" treatment for acne is Accutane (oral Isotretinoin). This is a power drug for people with severe acne which has not responded to standard treatments.

Avatar n tn I was really hoping accutane would finally be the answer and am reluctant to start another treatment that is said to cause initial breakouts and red, irritated, and peeling skin. Sorry for the long history, but I have two questions: (1) Is it smart to start using retin a micro so soon after accutane? My dermatologist prescribed it over the phone and I have not seem him for 1.5 months. (2) Is a second course of accutane likely to do any good? I am amazed how quickly the acne returned.
Avatar n tn Hi, A daily oral intake of vitamin A derivative isotretinoin (marketed as Accutane) over a period of 4-6 months can cause long-term resolution or reduction of acne. It is believed that isotretinoin works primarily by reducing the secretion of oils from the glands, however some studies suggest that it affects other acne-related factors as well. Isotretinoin has been shown to be very effective in treating severe acne and can either improve or clear well over 80% of patients.
Avatar n tn I had typical acne from an early age (11 years old) and received Roacutane (same as Accutane I think) when I was 15 years old. It worked a treat but 9months after I had finished treatment the acne returned. Over the years I have been on 3 treatments of Roacutane for about 18months each with the same result about 9 months later.
Avatar n tn I've a terrible breakout after having methylprednisolone IV treatment for MS. I'm currently on gabapentin, methylcobal and a vitamin B pill. I'm considering taking accutane for treatment of the acne proble s but would like to know if there are any negative effects between the medications.
Avatar m tn s opinion on the effectiveness of Accutane on smaller acne heads. My acne is on my face, neck, back, and chest. There are not very many big acne heads (I have benzoyl peroxide5%, Differin 3%, and Minocyclin 100 mg twice a day). These medications play a big part in my not having many big zits. Anyways, I have lots of little acne heads all over. How effective is Accutane at getting rid of these heads and keeping them off? (from your experience or from official sources) Thanks!
Avatar n tn And ONLY for one cycle. If the acne persists just wait till he/she is 19 or 20 then resume treatment. I personally would never ever put my child on this drug unless they had acne so bad that it could permanently scar their face or something. Long story short, height can be compromised if you give this drug to children so wait till they are probably done growing before suggesting this treatment. Use one of the many, many other beneficial acne medications available in the mean time. all the best.
1155893 tn?1263018015 just make sure to not pick at your acne, but the marks will go away it just takes forever. i have been on accutane twice, once when i was 17, and now im 26. I have cystic acne, and it made it better but not like i wanted it to be. i just realize now that i'm doing the best i can at taking care of myself and if i still have acne then there is not much left to do.
Avatar f tn Hello, Treatment for such acne like bumps includes topical and oral antibiotics, topical retinoids, hormonal therapy, dermabrasion , phototherapy and laser resurfacing. Normally a combination of treatments is followed and if nothing proves effective then dermabrasion and laser therapy are useful. You can discuss these treatment options with your dermatologist. Till then follow the treatment that has been prescribed to you and use Accutane only under medical guidance.
Avatar f tn My 17 year old son was diag. with ALL Leukemia on his 16th Birthday (18 months ago). He is a St. Jude's patient, in remission and doing well. His protocol will continue through Sept. '09. He currently has bad acne (adolescent acne, not associated with his dia. or a treatment side effect) . We have seen a dermotologist (under guidance of his Oncologist) and been prescribed Accutane. My question is concerning his taking the Accutane along with his chemo meds.
Avatar n tn Now I have persistant and large acne on my cheeks and jawline, including cystic acne. The acne is ever present and not just once a month. My current dermo (not the one who proscribed Accutane) tells me that it's hormonal (I believe this) and that I will just have to deal with it for the rest of my life (I don't want to accept this). She does Cortosone injections on occasion for the cysts because I cannot, for the life of me, leave my face alone.
Avatar n tn I have had a problem with acne all my life and took a course of Accutane in my early twenties. I was acne free for 10 years, but then it came back and I developed tiny bumps under my eyes that my dermatologist said were syringoma (after a year of treating it as acne with retin-a and antibiotics). As usual, the antibiotics and retin-a did not do anything to treat my acne problems, so I have begun a new course of Accutane.
Avatar m tn I am a 6'1 85 kg male who has been on accutane for 120 days (4 months). I started on 20 mg a day month 1, 40 mg month 2, and 60 mg months 3 and 4. 3 weeks ago I had my 1st eye infection of my entire life in my right eye so I went to an opthamalogist and he told me to stop taking the accutane for a week (which is what he says caused the infection) and put me on doxyclince hyclate 100mg twice a day and eurithromyocin gel to put on my eyelid that knocked the infection out.
Avatar n tn I took Accutane in the fall of 2004 and I experienced severe hair loss. (I'm a girl). My hair came out in handfulls for about 6 months. The large amount of hair that usually falls out after washing or brushing hair was falling out every half an hour if i ran my fingers through my hair. I lost about 60% of my hair. It stopped for a few months and started again for a few months to a lesser degree though. And now, 3.5 years later, it stills falls out more frequently than it should.
