Common Questions and Answers about Acne scarring treatment products

acne

Avatar n tn Acne is a common condition that affects most people and some people develop severe acne that leads to permanent and sometimes disfiguring scarring. The term "scarring" refers to a process where collagen within the skin is damaged from inflammation, leading to permanent texture changes in the skin. Treatment of scarring may vary depending on the kind of scarring present. This can be assessed by a dermatologist.
Avatar n tn Hi, Hair loss caused by thinning hair cannot be cured, but several non-surgical treatment options are available. Rogaine brand hair treatment products, containing a minoxidil liquid solution, are available over-the-counter in versions formulated for both men and women. Men who suffer from thinning hair may have suitable results with the prescription medication finasteride, sold under the brand name Propecia.
Avatar n tn Is it normal to have breakouts every day? I'm 31 weeks today and I have had acne all over my chest, shoulders arms and lower jaw. Also is there a safe way to treat while pregnant? I'm so aggravated with the itchy skin and scarring left from the old bumps. It's not cute at all.
Avatar m tn Mild-medium acne scarring which I've had several years after acne as a teenager has been resolved. They appear as very small brown dots throughout my face (Cheeks Primarily). There is no feel to the touch (skin is smooth now), purely aesthetic. I previously received chemical peels (I believe salicylic acid) via an esthetician. 3 layers would be applied (at max) which I opted for. Subsequent to receiving these treatments, I would have severe facial skin cracks on my entire face.
Avatar n tn Now I have persistant and large acne on my cheeks and jawline, including cystic acne. The acne is ever present and not just once a month. My current dermo (not the one who proscribed Accutane) tells me that it's hormonal (I believe this) and that I will just have to deal with it for the rest of my life (I don't want to accept this). She does Cortosone injections on occasion for the cysts because I cannot, for the life of me, leave my face alone.
Avatar n tn I just got back from the Derm today and he reviewed my skin and he said that my acne redness is scarring.. Now i thought scarring is indentions in the skin? Is it not and that acne redness will fade with time because according to my derm he said that my acne redness is scarring and that the redness wont go away and that theres nothing that can be done about it. He said that i'll have to live with it for the rest of my life and that the only possible treatment for this is laser.

Avatar f tn Does anyone know about the scarring after-effects of accutane? I've read several reports of scarring left after it's use. I'm sure that scars are to be expected, as with any open wound, but I don't know if these reports are by anyone with abnormalities with healing/scarring. Here is the situation... I have mild, maybe slightly moderate acne. I get keloids on other parts of my body, but thankfully not my face. I still get abnormal facial scarring though.
Avatar f tn I went to have a flash exfoliation today (its a 20 minute treatment done with prof. dermalogica products to help sluff of dead skin cells and brighten the skin) I was told over several treatments, it would also help with the appearance of my scaring from old acne. The gal removed my makeup and cleansed my skin, then cleansed with a cleanser from the medbac line, the second cleanser tingled a lot but wasnt too awful.
Avatar f tn What are your ladies thoughts on using acne products with salicylic acid? I have read mixed reviews, saying it's safe and isn't safe. I've been using it, it's in my face wash. What have you ladies been told? Or do you have any other treatment recommendations?
Avatar f tn I have had acne treatment by roaccutance nearly 2 yrs back...although i have a dark complexion but i have an uneven skin tone. It is darker around lips and forehead and sort of lighter on my cheeks, where there are acne scars ....Is there some thing that can give me an even tone.
Avatar n tn An acne cyst can appear similar to a nodule, but is pus-filled, and has been described as having a diameter of 5mm or more across. They can be painful. Again, scarring is common with cystic acne. Squeezing an acne cyst may cause a deeper infection and more painful inflammation which will last much longer than if you had left it alone. Dermatologists often have ways of lessening swelling and preventing scarring.
Avatar f tn I was not well informed by my dermatologist about what I can expect my scarring to be like during the course of the accutane. She just said that if we stop the acne, we stop the scarring, then several months after we can look into their array of scar treatments.
Avatar f tn It will dry up your skin and may cause a negative reaction like clogged pores. You can use acne products that do not contain salicylic acid, which most of them do. What saved my skin was the st. Ives avocado scrub, use every other day, and the Nuetrogena naturals moisturizer and cream wash I use daily. My skin has totally recovered (with minimal scarring from cystic acne) goodluck!
Avatar f tn My doctor said it was fine to use any over the counter acne products.
Avatar n tn Daughter wants to get a chemical peel for some acne scarring on her facial cheeks. She has been on antibiotics (too harsh on stomach), antibiotic topical cream, retin-A, you name it over the years. We even paid out of pocket for dermabrasion treatments several years ago. She is currently on the form of the Pill as well to help with the acne. There is some scarring, but not severe. She is a young woman and frustrated and wants a solution to this situation.
Avatar n tn t serious and will fade without treatment, others may lead to permanent scarring, reports MayoClinic.com. Recognize the likely causes of red bumps on your cheeks to know when you should contact your doctor. Significance Red bumps on your cheeks may signal acne, sometimes referred to as pimples or zits, and can result in scarring if left untreated. Acne also forms on the neck, chest, shoulders or back -- the areas of your body with the most oil glands.
Avatar m tn When your skin is no longer irritated buy a good acne gel. I recommend either Freederm or ByeByeBlemish. Use these products according to the instructions. Using more cream or leaving it on for too long will not help your acne clear up quicker, it will just make your skin sore. Check out the Acne Forum for more advice.
Avatar f tn I would consider other options like middle age changes, stress, diet changes, skin care product change, detergent change.... Any change from your previous products. If you are using sun screen to go out side, that could certainly be the cause. God bless.
Avatar n tn Because of this my back, chest, and neck are covered in scars (hypertrophic scarring) basically scars that look like lumps and are hard the papule cysts are painful to touch and deep under the skin also had them on my chest if you squeeze you might be like me and get the scarring Im talking about i also think the puss is sebum oil i received those 2 years after treatment.
Avatar n tn Hello. I have been on Accutane for the last 5 months. My acne is clearing and I have no new breakouts, however I have lots of red marks where the acne was (post inflamatory hyperpigmentation possibly?)? Anyway, I was just curious if blue light or red light treatment would help, and can I use the light treatment while on Accutane? If not, what else could I do to reduce the appearance of the red marks? The acne is on my chest and is very hard to look at.
Avatar f tn Hi. Acne is no longer just a teenage problem. Here in the Uk the average age for acne has now risen above 30 for the first time. Avoid using heavy moisturisers as this can add to the problem. The best over the counter remedy for spots is, in my experience, Freederm. However, prescription medications are often much more beneficial. Talk to your doctor to see if oral or topical antibiotics could help you, and also ask about hormonal solutions.
Avatar f tn I too am breaking out, luckily for me I am an esthetician.. I use all murad products and they work really well for me. I use an exfoliating acne treatment gel as well as a clarifying mask a couple times a week. It really works for me. If you want to try it out you can purchase the acne kit and test it out. It is a lot cheaper than purchasing these two products and that one comes with 4 products. It is a 30 day trial kit.
