These can be due to acne or folliculitis skin. Back and shoulder acne are quite difficult to treat compared to acne on other parts of the body. Thoroughly wash your body everyday, especially the back and shoulder part using a back brush and frequently change your bed sheet, as it is conducive for bacterial growth. Engage in a diet that is low in sugar and fat but is rich in vitamins. This prevents acne by preventing the buildup of excess oil on the skin.
I have suffered a similar adult acne story as Sean who posted 7th Sept 1999. I am 25 years old Female. I had typical acne from an early age (11 years old) and received Roacutane (same as Accutane I think) when I was 15 years old. It worked a treat but 9months after I had finished treatment the acne returned. Over the years I have been on 3 treatments of Roacutane for about 18months each with the same result about 9 months later.
I have been suffering from a peculiar rash on my upper chest for about a year and a half.
Initially i thought it was acne (as i had suffered from this on my face), however it looks more like a rash, almost like hives in apperance, and does not respond to acne medication.
It is made up of several red bumps about 1mm in length.
They occur prodominatly on my chest. I went to the doctor when i first got this problem and was prescribed some antibiotics and some aqeous cream.
I literally have hair growing everywhere. It is very embarrassing to discuss. Not to mention I have acne on my face, back, chest, butt and legs. I went to the doctor in April and had a papsmear done as well as blood work - complete blood count and testosterone levels - everything came back perfect until my doc. performed a transvaginal ultrasound and found a cyst on my right ovary the size of an egg.
About a year ago, I developed a RASH on my chest that is similar looking to acne in that it has red spots with tiny, very superficial white heads. Since this was the first rash breakout I mistook it for acne and used an acne spot treatment (benzyl peroxide 2.5%) The next morning my skin was itchy and extremely irritated, and I realized it was a rash and not pimples and the benzyl peroxide irritated it a lot. I then used calamine and benedryl topical lotion with little results.
I went to a skin doctor yesterday, who told me it was a cyst, but not acne and because the nature of it (being enlarged and swollen) he put me on an anti-biotic called levaquin, one pill a day/for seven days. Then, he told me if that doesn't work, that I may have to go the emergency room and have it removed. I'm due to get my cobra insurance, so I may seek a second opinion if the levaquin fails to reduce the swelling.
isotretinoin also known as Accutane, can be prescribed by a doctor, or contraceptive pills with cyproterone for females with virilization or drospirenone.

Hi all,
I'm a 19 year old male. Relatively healthy.
When I got up this morning I noticed that there was some kind of bump on my back in the left shoulder area. It doesn't itch and is not painful, it looks a little raised but flat surface. It's just there and doesn't look like any pimple that I have had. I usually don't get any kind of bumps or acne on my back so it has me worried. Here are two pictures. Sorry about the quality. Hopefully someone can help!
I have this bump on my upper right arm. I've had it for about 4 years. If I squeeze it, a white puss like hard material comes out (somewhat like a pimple). When looking at this "bump", it actually looks like a crater, as there is a pin hole in the middle of it. Any idea what this is?
I have had a small bump on my chest now for around 3 weeks. I would say that in terms of size it is around the size of the ball in a ball point pen. It is not swollen, though some days it has a little bit of redness which is typically on days that it has been a little bit itchy, likely with the redness resulting from my scratching it (I try not to, but it happens). The bump is not painful, and causes me no problems, except for the occasional itching.
I have a bump on my chest, it's normal skin colored but hard. underneath the the skin there seems to be a dark substance. i'm not sure what it is. I've had ingrown hair's before but this doesn't look like those. I've tried popping it but i think its under to many layers of skin. what could it be?
So a couple of days ago i realized there was this cyst type of pimple on my vaginal area on the skin. In a few days it blew up big & it reminded me of the acne i had on my face. its INSIDE the skin. If i grab my skin i can literally feel this big bump inside. I wanted to know if you think this actually my normal cystic acne just popped up on a random place like my vagina.. or maybe something else.
I had an acne spot under my chin that took a while to go down, it was under he skin so I couldn't pop it....anyway it eventually subsided but now I'm left with a tiny lump under the skin where the spot used to be...it's difficult to feel most of the time, I have to stretch my neck to feel it and it not visible on the surface at all. I am concerned about it now as its not gone and is still there 8 months or so on from the acne...what could this be?
So I've started getting these red bumps which sort of look like acne on my forearms. The bumps appear red and later on it turns into a white head and leaves a scar which is pretty embarrassing. These sometimes come and go it is not always there but I am getting worried that it might get worse.

Ok so I have been prescribed differin gel for "acne" problems. I recently had a huge one with deep cyst (when i touch it i can feel hardness under the skin)...then it formed a white head and oozed a lot of pus (and some blood) after which it stopped being painful. My question is can I still keep on applying differin gel on top of the acne even though it's "broken" skin? The differin seems to help calm the inflammation pretty quick and dry it out...
I have an itchy acne like rash on my chest. The rash is made up of acne like sores on the hair follicles, but unlike acne, they itch, and they are generally small without an acne like whitehead. When squezzed there is only a little puss and blood. The rash is generally confined to one small area, although it seems to have spread a bit lately. I first tried treating it by cleansing the area and putting some mild cortisone cream on it.
It could still be acne on your back with a few on the chest now. Another possibility is eczema which has little sores. It would be wise to see your doctor for a diagnosis though. We use two different products--- Aveeno Eczema Ointment bought at most drug stores and then this other that is a lotion that is anti itch. Not sure if this would increase acne on the back/shoulder area. Perhaps you could use a cleaning wipe like stridex or any brand and then the lotion over it.
