Aciphex otc equivalent

Common Questions and Answers about Aciphex otc equivalent

aciphex

Avatar n tn I have been on Aciphex 20 since 2007, with instant results. After changing Health Ins. , I am told by the current insurer that they won't cover Aciphex. I must go thru a step program, starting with Nexium, which my Doctor dosed at 40 mg instead of 20 mg, saying Nexium didn't come in 20 and the 40mg of Nexium is comparable to the 20 mg Aciphex . Questions: (1) Is the above true? (2) Are the side effects the same, and (3) What's the difference between the two.
Avatar f tn I am taking tagamet otc- Walmart generic brand and for me it is better than the rx ones- But that's just me....
Avatar n tn I have actually been on some form of reflux med for a bit longer than 5yrs and started with Prilosec OTC, then prescription Prilosec, Nexium, Aciphex, and briefly Prevacid. These days I tend to take whatever I have in my medicine cabinet (Aciphex or Prevacid) twice a day, max dosage, and occasionally a tagamet to help out. I have a hiatial hernia that is going to be fixed soon so I am hoping to get off the meds and that the side effects will eventually go away...I hope.
Avatar f tn I have for the past 10 years been on Aciphex 20mg for to much acid in my stomache, I was at 4 times the normal amount but now I have about 7 times to normal amount I have been taking 2 aciphex pills in the am and 1 in the evening. When I had my last scope I also had alot of irritation and alot of stomache polyps. I have latlely been having alot of diarreha about 2 hours after I eat and I'm generally not feeling well.
296025 tn?1233256719 Prevacid is a Protein Pump Inhibitor (PPI) like Aciphex, Nexium and Prilosec. It's indicated for GERD (chronic acid reflux) and as far as I know has nothing to do with treating Hep C, other than if you happen to have GERD. I believe Prilosec is a generic sold OTC but not 100% sure so speak to your doctor and pharmacist regarding switching off.
Avatar m tn told no I am not fine, one area no concern, other area metaplasia, was I still taking the Aciphex. I have gone back on the Aciphex but am terrified after reading on websites that I did the wrong thing. Endoscopy only done originally because I had still unexplained/diagnosis following three days of diarrhea, cramping, dehydration. On antibiotiic, H pylori ruled out. History of GERD, hiatal hernia. Control symptoms with diet, OTC Gaviscon.
Avatar f tn I am wondering if I can get some advice from a Doctor about having to take otc Diphenhydramine HCI 50 mg every night. I am currently taking other medications as well, Tegretol 400 mg daily- for mild epilepsy, Aciphex-gastric reflux, Uracit K-for potassium & kydney stones & little pills to make me pee. I have had trouble sleeping for years & did a sleep study about 6 years ago, was told I had sleep disorder. Hmm....well I kinda knew that & wasn't told how to deal with it.
Avatar m tn they must be taken on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after) or up to 60% of the drug is destroyed. The only two that can be taken with food are Aciphex and Dexalant but neither will be OTC for a couple of years. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn Please could you tell me if using OTC Unisom (12mgs Doxylamine Succinate) to help sleep (have severe insomnia for decades now) - could this lead to the severe hyper acidity I have? I take Nexium 40mg's twice a day, sometimes even three but it does not seem to help. Gastro-scope showed no signs of an ulcer just a very severe inflammation. Family Dr says Unisom or other anti-histamines cannot cause gastric problems. I read differently on the internet and am very confused now.
Avatar n tn I am an ERr nurse and have battled the problem for quite a few years. I have been taking Aciphex for GERD. After multiple test by GI we tried Align (probiotic) OTC. Prior to the probiotic I was having an episode every 2-3 weeks. It has been 4 months since the last episode.
Avatar m tn I am a 31 year old female who has a history of GERD. I was previously taking aciphex and monitoring my diet. I was taken off medication aprox 2 years ago as I was no longer having any symptoms. In the last few years I have had some symptoms but they have not been reoccuring and I have been able to manage these symptoms. Over the last ten days I have suddenly developed severe symptoms of GERD. I have been vomitting acid and food all day every day.
Avatar f tn aciphex, otc omeprazole, protonix, prevacid, nexium, prilosec, and zantac (and maybe more that I'm forgetting). They do nothing for me! Some help a little more than others. My doctors keep brushing me aside and I can't eat or breathe! I can't even lay on my side at night, I have to prop up on my back with pillows. Also, my father and aunt have severe Crohn's Disease and ileostomies. My dad just recently died of unknown causes and my aunt is on a daily feeding IV.
Avatar m tn Doctor reccomended Prilosec OTC. She was still leaning toward gallbladder. Day after started taking Prilosec, pain was the worst it had been at that point. Note, to mitigate the pain, i was taking Ibruprofen. Realizing that if it was an ulcer, I stopped taking the Ibruprofen. Prilosec seemed to help after that. Felt as if improving. Had HIDA done. Normal results. Day I got the results (before I got them, just to rule out my brain turning against me), started feeling worse.
Avatar f tn My husband was originally on Aciphex, but placed on Nexium after our insurance stopped covering aciphex and he was miserable. Aciphex has always worked so much better for him. Finally, after a year of misery he's back on aciphex and so much happier. I hope it works as well for you.
Avatar f tn I am on Nexium and it has done nothing. I still feel the same. Doc just told me to try Prilosec OTC so I started that today. The past few days I've been starting to get nausea in patches throughout the day. For example, today i've had it steady all day, with it getting worse at certain times. Please help!
Avatar m tn Which, incidentally, stopped when I stopped taking the aciphex. Shortly after taking the aciphex I started experiencing symptoms of GERD. I still have the GERD to this day - some days its worse than others. I connect a straight line between the taking of aciphex and the development of GERD. Is this a reasonable conclusion? or is there some other more likely explanation?
Avatar f tn I have just found out that the OTC pain med ALEVE has come to Canada. And have herd it works good for pains. Does anyone know if this works well for back pain. Thanks for any info on this med.
1014527 tn?1251057498 ve been having bad indigestion/burping with whatever I ate/drank, and gave me a trial of AcipHex. Things seems to have slightly improved for a small amount of time but I could never shake off this tightness of chest/tightness on full breathing. One concern was I had thick, yellow-dark yellow mucus for a few days straight at work(I work as a stocker overnight/around dust/etc.) and my temperature was fine.
Avatar f tn pylori bacteria in the digestive tract. The irony is, if you have ulcers and take Aciphex alone, the Aciphex could make the symptoms worse. Clearly something changed after taking the antibiotics, and now your ally in heartburn control has become your enemy. It might be worth getting back to your physician on this one, since antibiotics can often be a "swinging door", killing some bacteria while making it easier for other bacteria to get through that otherwise wouldn't have.
1099201 tn?1338180918 The antibiotic should help break the fever. Otherwise, typically, they will recommend Tylenol or equivalent, but talk to your doctor in case there’s a reason you shouldn’t use an OTC fever reducer.
Avatar f tn I have been dealing with medical issues for months now. It started with my left ear popping like I was in an airplane and I would try "Popping it" per say and then it would go back to feeling full again. Then I started gagging speratically and my throat would feel like I was sort of choking. The dr. did a scope of my noise and throat and my aidnoids, throat, epiglotis are all swollen and my white bloodcell count is way up and my lymph nodes are swollen under my tongue.
Avatar n tn Since then I am taking Acid suppressants such as Nexium and Aciphex as prescribed by my doctor. I also underwent Endoscopy and Biopsy, Abdominal Ultrasound, X-Ray and Blood test . All the tests came normal except they found H-Pilory infection and I took antibiotics and subsequent Stool test for H-Pilory showed negative. I am still having all the above discomforts which is going on for 5 months. I normally eat very healthy and I am following a strict diet since this problem started.
Avatar n tn Has anyone tried Zegerid? So far I have tried Prevacid, Aciphex, Prilosec,Protonix, and Nexium. Aciphex gave me bad side effects and Nexium made my reflux symptoms worse. Prilosec did absolutely nothing for me. I was successfully treated for H. Pylori in Nov 07. Since then I have been suffering from Water Brash and now heartburn. I don't know where to turn. My GI now wants me to take Zegerid(isn't this med just like Prilosec with sodium?).
198506 tn?1251156915 I was diagnosed with silent reflux on 2/6/08 and prescribed Aciphex. The ENT diagnosed the reflux through an endoscopy I think it's called...he threaded a fiber optic camera through my nostril and down my throat. He said my throat was swollen and red and that I had vocal cord nodules. I had no symptoms of GERD and went to the ENT because I had a near constant feeling of throat contriction. A previous Barrium swallow showed no GERD.
Avatar f tn Yes, it sounds like GERD, specifically LPRD. However, this is nothing to freak out about. If you've had this less than 5 years you don't likely have Barrett's Esophagus. (This is in response to my previous answer to a question you had in another thread.) Here are some tips: 1) Losing weight is of UTMOST IMPORTANCE in this. (Take it from me: I went from 324lbs to 240lbs and it's made a WORLD of difference.) 2) Follow a GERD diet and lifestyle changes.
Avatar f tn t take the medication because of allergies to Acetametaphin, which is the medication in Tylenol, there is an OTC medication that the neurologist suggested 'til he found out I can't use Tylenol. If you can find the brand Excedrin in Australia, they make a combination medication called Excedrin Migraine. It does not have any Codeine in it. I'm certain that someone else here will have more input on this stuff as to whether it helps or not. I do use the equivalent of Aleve.
