Aciphex and prilosec

Common Questions and Answers about Aciphex and prilosec

aciphex

Avatar f tn I think it really depends on the person. I've tried Prilosec, Nexium and Aciphex, all for extensive periods of time. My # 1 all-time fave is Nexium, and Aciphex is also very effective. Prilosec doesn't seem to work as well. Just my experience.
Avatar n tn So far I have tried Prevacid, Aciphex, Prilosec,Protonix, and Nexium. Aciphex gave me bad side effects and Nexium made my reflux symptoms worse. Prilosec did absolutely nothing for me. I was successfully treated for H. Pylori in Nov 07. Since then I have been suffering from Water Brash and now heartburn. I don't know where to turn. My GI now wants me to take Zegerid(isn't this med just like Prilosec with sodium?). Any input will be greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn I have actually been on some form of reflux med for a bit longer than 5yrs and started with Prilosec OTC, then prescription Prilosec, Nexium, Aciphex, and briefly Prevacid. These days I tend to take whatever I have in my medicine cabinet (Aciphex or Prevacid) twice a day, max dosage, and occasionally a tagamet to help out. I have a hiatial hernia that is going to be fixed soon so I am hoping to get off the meds and that the side effects will eventually go away...I hope.
296025 tn?1233256719 Prevacid is a Protein Pump Inhibitor (PPI) like Aciphex, Nexium and Prilosec. It's indicated for GERD (chronic acid reflux) and as far as I know has nothing to do with treating Hep C, other than if you happen to have GERD. I believe Prilosec is a generic sold OTC but not 100% sure so speak to your doctor and pharmacist regarding switching off.
1806721 tn?1554333407 s stop production of the acids, when u stop taking the meds, it flips the on switch and many times our system makes too much all at once and we feel the same as we did b4....this is y it is very important to slowly step off these meds and know u may have some GERD until ur body adjusts. Taking antibiotics will also affect ur GERD issues and a probiotic is a good idea, ur Dr should be able to guide u as to which one and what dose is best for u.
Avatar n tn t noticed much with the mouth but i will now be paying close attention. I have taken Prilosec, Nexium, Aciphex, and Prevacid up to twice a day at the max dosage. I recently had an eye exam but the doc just said i had dry eye and would need glasses when I hit my 50's. Not real helpful.
Avatar m tn s very little chance of recieving a persciption for the better medications ( I feel that the Nexium worked better than Prilosec, and that Aciphex worked better than both). the greasy, acidic, and overall bad for you foods must be cut out. these foods with irritate existing conditions and/or create new ones if it's GERD or gastritis. good luck, and i hope everything gets better for you soon.
238010 tn?1420406272 Also have acid reflux and i'm cirrhotic, prilosec is what my hepo put me on, been on it for a few years and it works great.
Avatar m tn had mylanta and prilosec and the situation got improved.. doctor recommended aciphex and currently i am on that.. situation seems to get better but at times, the condition that I have something stuck in throat and a little difficulty to swallow flares up. Got a sore throat a couple of days back. but now it is better. feeling weak and has muscle pains occasionally.. any ideas? should i expect improvement only after a while? currently i am on the 15th day of taking aciphex...
Avatar n tn He recommended I go back on Aciphex or another PPI and to take Benadryl. This seems to make sense. I asked my GI about my hypersalivation problem but he did not know what the cause could be. After the Endoscopy and the H. Pylori visit, the GI doesn't wanted to be bothered. Anyone else have a similar experience?
Avatar n tn I jus started taking aciphex and used to takn 2 40mg nexium a day, am I supose to take 4 aciphex a day being they are just 20mg?
Avatar f tn Even though medicines like nexium, prilosec, prevacid, protonix, aciphex, and dexilant are all very similar, sometimes you need to try many of them before you find one that works well for you. The nausea could be caused by the GERD. Are you on a GERD-friendly diet? Have you tried raising the head of your bed?
Avatar m tn Had an endoscopy - showed gerd, slight irritation of esophagus, small hiatal hernia and stomach blisters and nodules which were removed and benign. Gastro changed me to aciphex once a day and reglan at night. This was 4 days ago....eating a little better but still have some bouts with nausea....will it take time for the new meds to work? Or could something else be going on to cause this....*by the wayk, i also had an ultra sound of abdominal area - all normal.
1744042 tn?1311261168 Yes, GERD and thyroid disorders are related. Many of us who have thyroid issues have or had GERD or acid reflux. I was on Aciphex, which is one of the stronger acid reducers and at times, that didn't even touch the reflux; my insurance quit paying for Aciphex and I was forced to go to omerprozole; I'd have to take 3-4 times the recommended dosage before it made any difference at all.

1387175 tn?1326400997 However, I did see your post on the Prilosec and this confuses me. I have chronic dry mouth/throat and a feeling of something stuck in my throat. Several docs later, all ENT docs always want to give you meds for GERD, which I don't have. I also have Osteo. When I was on Nexium for 4-5 mos straight, I developed severe muscle pain and a fractured rib. Saw an endo doc and she told me to not take the Nexium or Omeprazole (Prilosec) due to the possible side effects.
Avatar m tn I have tried all OTC stuff, prevacid, prilosec, and aciphex. I may give nexium a shot because that seems to work the best for some people.
428886 tn?1217682034 I was told I can take them just at least three hours apart from the Riba. Hepatologist had me on Aciphhex and now Prilosec.
1717741 tn?1310779105 Hello Ghars, I too have GERD and Barretts Esoughagus and Asthma. You may need to get on daily meds for the GERD (Prilosec, Aciphex, etc.) and a daily inhaled steroid like Symbicort. Talk to your Dr.
Avatar f tn Since August of 2010 I've had chest pain, difficulty breathing, incredible stomach bloating/distention (even after just drinking a glass of water), burping, reflux, and heartburn. My main concern is the bloating and difficulty breathing. I can barely function on a day to day basis. I eat little bites all day long because I can't eat a full meal or I start hyperventilating. I have had an EGD which showed a polyp (was removed) and some mild esophagitis. I don't have H.
Avatar m tn they must be taken on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after) or up to 60% of the drug is destroyed. The only two that can be taken with food are Aciphex and Dexalant but neither will be OTC for a couple of years. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn I got this under control with prilosec and took it for about 4-5 months. I tried coming off of it and after a few weeks the heartburn was back with a vengeance and I had a new symptom. Ectopic beats happening a lot, especially at night. I've had the odd ectopic beat over the years but I'd have one then they would dissapear for months. Now it was one all the time every night and the only thing that gave relief was burping.
Avatar m tn http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/barretts/index.htm Please discuss with your doctor about trying a combination of medication. Stop Prilosec and see. Keep a stress diary to see if a particular food causes more problems than the other. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar f tn Hi. I take Prevacid, which is a little pricey, even with insurance. However, there is another one, Aciphex, which was about 30 dollars cheaper. I am back on the Prevacid as the Aciphex didn't work as well ( for me...I was on Prevacid for years and only switched because of the cost...65 dollars). You may want to ask about that. Also, I was told my pharmacist that otc prilosic works well too.
Avatar f tn Your docs probably told you that. But I took aciphex for 10 years, and had IBS for 30 years and no doctor ever told me to stop consuming gluten.
Avatar m tn I connect a straight line between the taking of aciphex and the development of GERD. Is this a reasonable conclusion? or is there some other more likely explanation?
Avatar n tn ve tried digestive enzymes and natural supplements. Nothing helps and and since ERCP the burning is worse.
