Avatar n tn So I wouldnt take any vitamins with Vitamin A in it, but you can still eat oranges and have orange juice just remember accutane already has a lot of vitamin a in it. You are fine to still take it, thats what your doctor prescribed so I'm sure they thought that was best.
Avatar m tn Study says Accutane by-products may cause immune response and celiac symptoms Findings that were recently published in the scientific journal Nature resulting from a study by University of Chicago’s Digestive Disease Research Core Center researchers indicated that Accutane byproducts, Vitamin A and retinoic acid, may cause inflammation in people with high levels of interleukin-15.
1155893 tn?1263018015 Hey, My dermo gave me Retin A cream to go along with my accutane. She said it would help clear up some of the dark spots I had on my skin from the acne. Will this help? What is this stuff usually used for ?
Avatar n tn Dear Dr Rockoff, I'm looking for some advice/reassurance. I have been off accutane for a little over a year, during which time I have had at most one zit at any one time which would disappear relatively quickly. In the last few days, however, I have had two zits appear simultaneously, and I'm slightly worried. I've been using benzoyl peroxide religiously for the past several months, so now I'm questioning whether the positive effect of the accutane may be over.
Avatar n tn Drug interaction of Claravis or Accutane includes tetracyclines , vitamin A-type drugs, vitamin A, and drugs that cause bone loss such as anti-seizure drugs such as phenytoin and corticosteroids. If you experience severe headaches and other symptoms like mood changes, muscle /joint pain or painful swallowing or peeling skin, it is best that you inform your doctor for proper management. Also when prescription medicine for migraine is not providing relief. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn 70s before Accutane was available an osteopath recommended this water-soluble Vitamin A, with a dosage of 400,000 (!) I.U. per day; and miraculously it cleared up my acne, but after 2 years developed Vitamin A toxicity with bad nosebleeds, flaming-hot skin capillaries near my knees and eventually lost about 1/3 of my hair. I stopped taking this preparation after losing my hair.
Avatar m tn Have had melasma for the past couple of years. Just started accutane 40 mg and wondering if there's anything I can use to help treat a stubborn spot on my forehead. Seems like its getting darker since I have started the pills. Already use a physical spf50 cream everyday. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn She recently (2 weeks ago) started taking a low dose of accutane every other day and noticed her face and scalp began to itch and flake. She is now concerned about her hair thinning and even being lost, claiming that it has at least begun to thin. My question: Is there a strong correlation between hair thinning/loss with accutane patients? Should she be concerned about permanent hair loss? If her hair is thinning, is this permanent as well or temporary?
Avatar n tn I've a terrible breakout after having methylprednisolone IV treatment for MS. I'm currently on gabapentin, methylcobal and a vitamin B pill. I'm considering taking accutane for treatment of the acne proble s but would like to know if there are any negative effects between the medications.
Avatar n tn Natural or synthetic analogues of vitamin A has been successful with skin disorders including acne vulgaris. Research has shown supplements of vitamin A has not proved successful. Before you take supplements of any minerals/vitamins, such as zinc, suggest getting blood work first to see what your levels are. Taking too much zinc can lower your immune system. Hoped this helped you.
Avatar f tn My reason for acne was hypothyroidism. Thyroid hormone is needed to convert beta carotene to vitamin A. Accutane is isotretinoin (closely related to vitamin A). Primary Raynaud's phenomenon is not associated with other diseases. Secondary Raynaud's phenomenon is due to an underlying cause, especially connective tissues disorders.
Avatar f tn It is often recommended that one lets a few months pass between the two treatments, because the condition can actually improve somewhat in the time after stopping the treatment and waiting a few months also gives the body a chance to recover. Occasionally a third or even a fourth course is used, but the benefits are often less substantial. The most common side effects are dry skin and occasional nosebleeds (secondary to dry nasal mucosa).
Avatar m tn after that i had Shaking in my hand (for 3 month then it removed) and bad concentration (i did not know till now why i did not go dr may i was thinking that is not problem ) after 4 year i did a test for thyroid and the result was positive for hypothyroidism , i want to ask if there is connection between the medication (Isotretinoin and accutane) and hypothyroidism and if it reversible
Avatar m tn For the past few months, I've been losing a lot of eyebrow hair. In the beginning, it was only a few hairs which I thought was completely normal but I began to notice that as the months went by, I was losing a lot of hairs at the same time on both my eyebrows, every single day. Lately, my brows have also been itchy and the skin on my eyebrows have been so so flakey which leads to more hair loss.

Avatar m tn I am also a former user of accutane (but many years ago). Though not as potent, I continue to use vitamin A capsules on a daily basis to assist with clear skin. Good luck!
Avatar m tn Thanks so much for the response. My apologies for such a late response. I am still on accutane. A new symptom has arose. I contacted the pharmacy about it for further recommendations. He listed off side effect and what he thinks I have is dry eyes. Now, this is not that big deal however, I have never experienced eye pain. Its not excrutiating pain however, it is discomfortable. I have visine and eye drops from previous outings of infection once. The advice was see a doctor.
Avatar n tn The 10000 IU limit is for preformed Vitamin A. (Personally, my prenatal had 4000 IU of Vitamin A in it, and my midwife said that was fine) I would call your doctor if you're still unsure and speak to them about it.
Avatar f tn Can I ask why you are taking accutane? Its Vitamin A supplement, right? If this correct, then you could have PTC? IIH from it. It is a know trigger for this illness. If, I can be any further help, drop me a line. I have IIH. (That's its more up to date, world wise recognised name) It stands for Idiopathic Intracranial hypertension. Best of luck.
Avatar f tn I have not done too much besides drinking milk and taking a vitamin D3 supplement. Instead of doing things that may mask the pain for a while, I believe that our problem as well as all others who are still experiencing the side effects months/years after being on the treatment is that the drug is still in the body! It's a fat soluble vitamin (A) which stays in your liver, fat and organs for a really long time.
Avatar n tn However my extremely flaky/seemingly dry lips remain. Am I right in thinking that the lips are caused by having taken 40 mg a day of accutane for 5 mths up until April of 09, or could they be a result of my seborrheic dermatitis? I had the flaking on the lips before accutane but i was also using 400 mg a day of doxycycline for 4 yrs. prior to accutane so that could have been causing the dryness?
Avatar m tn If your dog ate this within the last 1/2 hour or so, then make him vomit. Accutane is a vitamin A product, and I am unsure if it would be OK or not, but make the dog vomit to be on the safe side. Three percent hydrogen peroxide is quite effective in making dogs and cats vomit. You must be sure to use three percent peroxide and not hair coloring strength peroxide. The appropriate dose of hydrogen peroxide is one teaspoon per 10 pounds of body weight.
Avatar n tn Some people will experience mild side effects, while others will experience devastating side effects. Isotretinoin (Accutane) is a retinoid which is a derivative of Vitamin A. Taking a full course of Isotretinoin is basically like taking an overdose of Vitamin A. An overdose of vitamin A, or vitamin A poisoning, is also known as Hypervitaminosis A. Hypervitaminosis A can also be experienced from eating the liver of certain animals, for example the polar bear.
Avatar m tn I am an African American woman on accutane. I have noticed that my face is gradually becoming darker than the rest of my body. I'm in my 3rd week and already my face is about 3 shades darker than the rest of my body. Is this normal? I have not had any other side effects aside from the normal lip chapping. This discussion is related to Accutane and Pigmentation/Genital Bumps.
Avatar m tn I got a pimple and some cystic acne spots. It usually precedes a breakout. I am going to try and get on accutane. Does it cause scars? Should I let the spots heal first or should I get on accutane immediately? I have literally tried everything you can imagine. Diets, low glycemic, multi vitamin, salads, low carb, you name it. Cut out all flour and sugar. I get temporary relief and it comes back. I would give a testicle to get away from acne.
Avatar n tn If so, the first thing to do right away is get some folic acid pills and begin to take them. They are a B vitamin, so look for them in the vitamin section at the store. The earlier the better, in supplementing with folic acid. Then the obvious, no smoking, drugs, drinking. No Accutane, if you are taking any acne medicine with a Vitamin A derivative.
