Common Questions and Answers about Accutane kidney damage

accutane

Avatar n tn The thing is my mom is a bit scared because of what she has heard about the possible long term effects of accutane. Is it true that the drug can cause serious liver damage etc? I am aware of the short term effects of accutane (chapped lips, blured vision etc) but can someone enlighten me on what can possibly happen in the long run with my health after i take this drug?
Avatar n tn Hey man I have alot of the same issues cause by low DHT levels. Were you on accutane as a teenager? Any other meds that could have altered your hormone levels? IF there's no nerve damage then its possible the sensitivity issues stem from low dht or low testosterone.
Avatar f tn I believe I am pregnant: I had been taking accutane for several months during the month of may and june 2009 i had been forgetting to take the meds, i was taking them every other day. Around June 11, I took one than I forgot to take one until the 19th, which is the same day I think I got pregnant. I did not take any other pill after that, do you think this can harm my baby?
Avatar n tn I took accutane for about 3-4 months, but I've been off of it for over a year. Before I took accutane, I was constantly wet - I would actually have to change underwear once or twice a day. I had an extremely high libido and orgasmed quickly. While on accutane, if my boyfriend and I would try to have sex, it would be so dry it felt like sandpaper and I would end up convulsing with tears it was so painful and frustrating. I thought it would change...
Avatar f tn Is anyone aware of a linkage between isotretonoin (Accutane), used for treating cystic acne, and Sjogren's, which is linked to the epithelial cells? At 21, when Accutane first appeared, doses were higher than current (I remember my skin bleeding when scratching lightly with a fingernail). I am now 51, and have had Reynaud's for a number of years, and was just diagnosed with Sjogren's. Just curious if anyone has seen this?
Avatar n tn I'm a guy, 20 years old, and took accutane back in 2008 for only 3 months. Stopped early because of thinning hair in mass amounts. Doctors and dermatologists don't want to attribute accutane as the cause to something like this because quite frankly, the accutane doesn't often do its damage in massive amounts as quickly to really show a "drastic difference" or whatever.

Avatar m tn My dermatologist has prescribed me Isotretinoin (Accutane) around 20 mg. However i feel uneasy and very worried because i had read the following medical research papers where it tells the harmful side effects Isotretinoin has such as teratogenic and more importantly the cause of eye disorders, like impaired night vision, cataracts, optic neuritis, corneal opacities and dry eye. I had check in PubMed about this and i encountered the following http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10746459.
Avatar n tn Please, I am begging you to pass on the Accutane. I believe without a shadow of a doubt that Accutane has done permanent damage to my muscles somehow. I know how self-conscious your acne and scars make you feel. Believe me when I tell you it's not worth it. Just a note that I find too common; my acne came back shortly after stopping the tx. I wasted $1200.00 and my health for what?
Avatar f tn Prolonged stress Excessive caffeine (more than 4 cups of coffee daily) Cigarette smoking Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) Some pharmaceuticals such as Prednisone (corticosteroid), hormone replacement therapy, antifungals, Accutane (acne treatment), Remeron (antidepressant) and several liver and kidney drugs.
Avatar m tn I have been on Accutane (Claravis) 40mg for 1 month, then 60mg for awhile the second month but went back down to 40mg due to side effects, and recently stopped completely for now. I started to have vision problems, blurry vision in the distance (especially with contacts) , red eyes, and lack of lubrication in the eyes. I went to my optometrist and told him about my problems.
Avatar f tn From the posts I read it seems that many were taking above the max dose 4000 mg of acetaminfen daily. Irreversable liver/kidney damage has always been a big concern to me which is why I never exceed the 4000 mg a day. I just had blood drawn yesterday & will nervously await the results. If they tell me my enzymes are higher it will be easier to quit. I think. Have any of you had any damage to liver/kidney damage as a result of your vicodin use?
Avatar n tn I had the same problem with blood being discharged from my penis 10 years ago while I was on accutane for about 5 months. The best way to stop this is to stop taking accutane. At the time, the doctors immediately advised me to stop taking the medication. It can damage your urine flow. Today, I sometimes have extra urine leakage after urinating. I believe this to be one of the long term affects of taking accutane.
Avatar n tn I had typical acne from an early age (11 years old) and received Roacutane (same as Accutane I think) when I was 15 years old. It worked a treat but 9months after I had finished treatment the acne returned. Over the years I have been on 3 treatments of Roacutane for about 18months each with the same result about 9 months later.
Avatar m tn For acne, I was prescribe 6 months of accutane - which did wonders for my facial/body acne. However, in the last couple of years I have struggled with controlling back acne. For sweating, when I was 20 I received botox injections in my forhead and armpits - which worked well. Not amazingly, but helped for sure. I had been getting injections every 6 months.
Avatar m tn Ok so i am 20 years old and i took accutane for about 3 months, then stopped due to lower back pain. After much research i found that the accutane dries up the glands that produce synovial fluid that lubricates your joints. Since then i've been taking hyaluronic acid which helps lube the joints.
Avatar m tn I heard a lot about kidney stones, but i drink a lot of water and green tea. Could it be accutane? My doc said i could keep using it though after the urine test but idk....
Avatar n tn i have just started to take accutane and i am on my 9th day. i work out alot by doing weightlifting and running. i am feeling joint pain in the lower back area. A year ago i injured my lower back and it took months to heal. i am wondering if there is somthing that i can take to help my pain and if these symptoms are only temporary.
Avatar n tn Hello Ursamere. As you probably know, we're not physicians here, but are happy to share our experiences with you so you can explore the ideas further with your diabetes team. I'm also a long-time DMer - about 35 years. 5.6 is an excellent a1c and as one who's not (yet) achieved an a1c under 6, I admire the work & discipline it takes to achieve that.
Avatar m tn Then you also need to investigate other causes of brain fog like liver dysfunction (get liver enzymes done—liver function test), kidney dysfunction (get kidney function test done), and anemia. Poor sleep pattern and sleep problems like sleep apnea too can cause brain fog. Sleep studies by sleep specialists can help diagnose this. I think you should discuss these possibilities with your doctor. It is difficult to comment beyond this without examining.
Avatar n tn I've only been on Accutane (actually, a generic brand of it) for ten days, and I experienced my first migraine on day 9. I am unsure if the migraine could be connected to Accutane, but I did a little research and some instances of migraines have been reported by Accutane users. I am just uncertain because I haven't been on it very long, but I am already experiencing dry lips, so I suppose I could be experiencing other side effects already, too.

Avatar f tn The only way to truly ease your mind is by being totally honest with him/her. I have liver damage and kidney damage due to drugs stage 2 liver stage 3 kidney.. if your liver were damaged and you had a flare your belly would be extended/pain upper right you would be lethargic/vomiting.. other symptoms but these being severe.. It is not fun and I would not wish it on anyone.. I contracted hep C from slamming and further continued the damage through pills/alcohol..
Avatar f tn Hi. Accutane increases the risk of liver problems so avoid too much alcohol whilst taking this medicine. Eloise.
