accutane

1155893 tn?1263018015 Hey, My dermo gave me Retin A cream to go along with my accutane. She said it would help clear up some of the dark spots I had on my skin from the acne. Will this help? What is this stuff usually used for ?
Avatar n tn 20% of Accutane patients require a second or third course. You must wait 8 weeks between courses since acne can continue to clear during this time. If Retin-A does cause irritation try a gentler synthetic topical retinoid such as Differin (adapalene 0.1%) as this is very effective and generally well tolerated. See the Acne forum for more advice. Eloise.

Avatar n tn I have had a problem with acne all my life and took a course of Accutane in my early twenties. I was acne free for 10 years, but then it came back and I developed tiny bumps under my eyes that my dermatologist said were syringoma (after a year of treating it as acne with retin-a and antibiotics). As usual, the antibiotics and retin-a did not do anything to treat my acne problems, so I have begun a new course of Accutane.
Avatar f tn Hello there, I am very worried that I may have accidentally harmed my baby without realizing it. I have used retin A for years for acne and wrinkles all over my face, and on my back and chest. I have used .1%. I found out at about 3 weeks pregnant that it can cause birth defects. I have stopped using it of course, but I am so scared. Studies on the internet say many different things. I welcome any thoughts for my situation. Thanks!
Avatar f tn t even ask my name and prescribed doxycycline, clindamycin and retin-a. I have been using faithfully, but this acne is still SOOO itchy and painful to even move my face or to open my mouth to eat. I have no idea what happened all of the sudden and why it doesn't go away all of the sudden too! I think that I would take accutane because I am at a loss. Have tried so many things!!
Avatar m tn I have been using Retin A until I found that I'm pregnant. I didn't know that a pregnant lady shouldn't use Retin A. Now, I'm 10weeks already and I stop using it when I was 5 weeks. What should I do? would it harm my baby? What are the birth defect that would cause to my baby? Please reply asap as this is very urgent to me. Thanks a million.
Avatar n tn is it ok to use tetracycline, retin-a, and hydroquinone togther as part of a daily routine, and whats the best sunscreen lotion?
Avatar f tn I has made me constipated and nauseous and have a yellow tongue. My tongue has a thick white coating and is swollen always, but now it is also yellow. Anyway, my dermatologist said that accutane will help true acne but says what I have is not true acne. He had me stop absolutely everything topical except aquanil cleanser. Says he sees minor improvement with that. I don't though.
Avatar f tn I am currently using clindamycin 1% twice a day as well as benzoyl peroxide 10% in the morning and retin-a .025% before bed. I wash my face twice a day and after I sweat with a salicylic acid wash. I use a clean facial scrub brush to wash my face and help with exfoliation. I change my pillow case every night and never touch my face. I have listed the different medications I have tried in the past at the bottom of this post.
Avatar n tn Is a chemical peel kind of severe treatment for this? What are the risks? Does it work? How much scarring does a patient have before undertaking something as costly as a peel? Is Accutane still prescribed in the US or it is not prescribed anymore? Thank you.
Avatar n tn My palms/inner hands also became very peely and would go from extremely sweaty/oily to extremely dry. When I got to college freshman year, I began using clindamycin and retin-a-micro on my skin. I used no products on my hands and they became better. The facial products turned my face red and I began to get bad cystic acne on my face, right next to my nose and on the sides of my chin. A year or so later, I used accutane, but only for 3 months or so.
Avatar n tn I am Using Retin-a-Micro-but it does not seem to be helping. can it be from a lack of vitamins or minerals?
Avatar n tn The risk of birth defects from getting too much vitamin A is the reason that pregnant women and those trying to conceive should stay away from the prescription acne drug isotretinoin (also known by the brand name Accutane, among others) and other drugs related to retinol (a compound of vitamin A), including topical tretinoin (Retin-A), which is used for skin conditions.
Avatar n tn Hi, I actually just took 5 months of accutane and finished a couple months ago. You are fine to keep working out, nothing wrong with that. You shouldn't gain weight either. And there shouldn't be long term side effects. It's rare that you will have major side effects, or hear voices. There are some studies that say some people kill themselves while on this medicine, but if you don't get depressed then you have nothing to worry about.
Avatar f tn Retinol is also as prone to increasing your sunburn potential so I would recommend to use it only at night. I had to gradually build up using Retin A and now I use it every night along with a non-acidic moisturizer (don't use anything with glycolic acid, AHA or you will definitely feel the burning/stinging sensation). You will go through the initial flaking, burning period but be consistent and caution, this will subside and your skin will adjust without problems.
948202 tn?1245941816 Hello. I have been using retin-a 3 times a week and sulfacetamide 3 times a week (alternating each night). I just so happened to start reading the information for retin-a and it says, "if you have recently used products containing sulfur....use tretinoin with caution." Do i have something to be worried about?
Avatar f tn (Not trying to be long-winded, just trying to make it clear that I have tried to eliminate every possibility of what the cause could be) I was recently talking to one of my co-workers while she was giving me a facial and she mentioned that it may be a thyroid disorder. I was thinking that or possibly something hormonal- but I have no insurance (independent contractor) and was wondering if there is cause to go see an endocrinologist at out-of-pocket expense.
Avatar n tn The thing with this rash is that it itches like crazy and its not going away with retin-A or an itch reliever cream like elcolm all given to me by my derm. I am running out of solutions. I also was diagnosed with hsv-2 in July 2011 and have been taking 500mg a day of valtrex. I asked my derm. if this could be herpes related and all she said is, "it could be if he was rubbing his affected area on the back of your neck". Please help.
Avatar n tn My experience with Accutane was not a pleasant one, there was severe drying of the mucous membranes and constant thirst and cracked bleeding lips, dry eyes, and depression. Accutane can be a very dangerous drug. It can cause birth defects and I was required (and believe that it is still required) to have a pregnancy test done every month to be eligible for the medication to be refilled. You should also have a liver panel run before and during treatment.
Avatar m tn I am confused, as retin A cream is said to cause the skin to thin, and applying the cream is supposed to generate collegen which I though thickened the skin. Could you pleas explain? thank you.
Avatar f tn Angebelle, thanks for your reply. That is good news about the Retin-A. I am going to a dermatologist in a few weeks, and and am going to ask for it. I always thought it was only for acne, so wish I knew sooner! I appreciate your descriptions about your Mom's skin. In the meantime, I will use my Vichy, which is highly rated, but as you say, is not prescription strength.. Thanks, so glad I am not smoking. If anyone has any comments on smoking damage and retinol, I'd appreciate it!!
Avatar n tn I've only been on Accutane (actually, a generic brand of it) for ten days, and I experienced my first migraine on day 9. I am unsure if the migraine could be connected to Accutane, but I did a little research and some instances of migraines have been reported by Accutane users. I am just uncertain because I haven't been on it very long, but I am already experiencing dry lips, so I suppose I could be experiencing other side effects already, too.
Avatar f tn I am seeing a new dermatologist now and he was having me use retin A at night three times a week a steroid called locoid lipocream in the morning and aquaphor during the day. Tried that for a few weeks and lip felt a little better but still raw and peeling. I called the derm. and he said use the steroid twice a day and aquaphor as well and quit using retin A. I am now developing a white spot on the inside of my lip in the mouth area which I have got before and thought was yeast.
546892 tn?1214525401 I have acnes on my face and a litle on my chest and i have acne scars in both places, i was wonderin if acutaine would help my scars as well as acne? This discussion is related to Accutane-scar question.
Avatar n tn 17 year old daughter having stomach issues, just got a positive test for celiac, has bad acne, derm wants to put her on accutane. I am worried about the accutane and her stomach. Not sure celiac is only cause of stomach aches. Also birth control pill used to control acne, then she went off and it came back worse than ever. She is back on the pill for almost 3 months and it is not working. Why?
