I took Accutane in the fall of 2004 and I experienced severe hair loss. (I'm a girl). My hair came out in handfulls for about 6 months. The large amount of hair that usually falls out after washing or brushing hair was falling out every half an hour if i ran my fingers through my hair. I lost about 60% of my hair. It stopped for a few months and started again for a few months to a lesser degree though. And now, 3.5 years later, it stills falls out more frequently than it should.
She recently (2 weeks ago) started taking a low dose of accutane every other day and noticed her face and scalp began to itch and flake. She is now concerned about her hair thinning and even being lost, claiming that it has at least begun to thin.
My question: Is there a strong correlation between hair thinning/loss with accutane patients? Should she be concerned about permanent hair loss? If her hair is thinning, is this permanent as well or temporary?
I have experienced a few annoying side effects but one of the major ones i have noticed is hair loss. I had very thick hair pre-accutane and i noticed hair-thnning lately and my hairline as also been receding. This is driving me crazy. Will this be a permanent side-effect or temporary and will my hair come back to its original hair-line. My father has very thick hair and my mother has good hair as well. Someone please help!!!
Hi, I actually just took 5 months of accutane and finished a couple months ago. You are fine to keep working out, nothing wrong with that. You shouldn't gain weight either. And there shouldn't be long term side effects. It's rare that you will have major side effects, or hear voices. There are some studies that say some people kill themselves while on this medicine, but if you don't get depressed then you have nothing to worry about.
after that i had Shaking in my hand (for 3 month then it removed) and bad concentration (i did not know till now why i did not go dr may i was thinking that is not problem ) after 4 year i did a test for thyroid and the result was positive for hypothyroidism , i want to ask if there is connection between the medication (Isotretinoin and accutane) and hypothyroidism and if it reversible

Weight loss is one of the side effects of taking Accutane and it may cause anorexia as well. Eat a healthy nutritious diet and consult your doctor if weight loss is a major problem. You may need to be put on some other medication for acne rather than Accutane.

Towards the end of the second month on accutane I suddenly started getting really intense headaches that to me, seem like a migraine. It's happening at least a couple times a week now. My vision kind of suddenly started getting blurier and I now have difficulty trying to focus and refocus my eyes. With this I also experience pain in my eyes. I have this whenever I get the headaches and sometimes without a bad headache.
Accutane has many side effects the more common side effect is patch loss of hair. once medication has stopped , most people regain hair loss and other side effects. i would consult with the doctor and tell him whas going on.
jus t to let you know my story, i was a life long sufferer, i am 33 years old now, very oily skin and very pale. I have tried everyting from over the counter to medication nothing has worked. i am 33 up until this january i was losing hope, i was about to try accutane.
I have seen a local Derm who said there was no scarring on my scalp and no real skin issues associated with my hair loss. In 2004 I took a course of Roaccutane for acne and noticed some thinning after the course finished. I was told that this was a known side effect, but that the hair would grow back. It has been over four years!!! My hair is uniformly thinned out across the entire scalp.
I asked my doctor about it and he said he did not know anything about accutane causing hair loss. I have researched it and found that it does. I was just wondering if it is in my case. When it thins your hair, does it do it all over, or just at the middle and top, like normal male pattern baldness. Also if it is the cause of this thinning how long will it take it to start to grow back the treatment is done. I am 14 years old 150 pounds and 6 foot.

I wish there was a proper thread for migraine suffers who need prescription pain relief and their experience with accutane( or claravis) / if it makes migraines even worse or more frequent. Not people who have other health concerns or problems with the medication.
I have been taking Claravis 40mg once daily for almost a month. The last 2 weeks or so my migraines have gotten more frequent and less apt to respond to Rizatriptan.
I've only been on Accutane (actually, a generic brand of it) for ten days, and I experienced my first migraine on day 9. I am unsure if the migraine could be connected to Accutane, but I did a little research and some instances of migraines have been reported by Accutane users. I am just uncertain because I haven't been on it very long, but I am already experiencing dry lips, so I suppose I could be experiencing other side effects already, too.
17 year old daughter having stomach issues, just got a positive test for celiac, has bad acne, derm wants to put her on accutane. I am worried about the accutane and her stomach. Not sure celiac is only cause of stomach aches. Also birth control pill used to control acne, then she went off and it came back worse than ever. high and low pitched ringing, aching, stabbing pains, crackling, fullness, internal twitching, pulsatile tinnitus, and episodic hearing loss - usually only for a few seconds at a time.
But with this fever spell the vertigo, loss of balance and powerful muscle spasms all made a come back as well.
I can tell when the fever is climbing because my face starts feeling warm and flushed.
i have been suffering from dampened/muffled hearing in my left ear on and off for about 2 years now. sometimes im fine, but when the flare ups occur its miserable. i also find that wheni grab my ear and pull back, my hearing seems to be perfectly fine, however when i let go or leave it alone it dampens. sometimes it gets to where i can basically hear nothing out of it and it feels like just pressure in my ear with the dampened hearing.
I'm trying to treat hearing loss from antibiotics. how can you know if the hearing loss is autoimmune? can a immunologist help with that?
In the end, if your hearing loss is permanent, and if there is some residual hearing left, a hearing aid can be worn, to help you hear better, and it will diminish the tinnitus. That said, hearing aids are not a cure for either tinnitus or hearing loss.
One more note, I hope they use contrast with the MRI, other wise the MRI will have little diagnostic value.
My doctor perscribes hydrocodone-Acetiminophen 5-500 for my severe neck tension and I take 1-1/2 almost every night. Never more than that. But, I noticed hearing seems to be dimmer in my left ear. Did research on hearing loss with this drug and now I'm scared to death. I want OFF! Can my hearing be reversed when I get this out of my system?
