ve just been recently prescribed by my dermatologist Isotretinoin (accutane) and am on my 4th day of treatment. After doing extensive research on how accutane affects growth, it really concerns me as I'm currently only 16 years and 8 months old and hence am still in the growing stage of my life. My dermatologist however has prescribed me a very low dosage of 10mg per day for 7 consecutive days, after which would be switching onto a 30mg PER WEEK dose.

Roaccutane causes premature closure of the epiphyseal plate and hence stops growth but that is in the musculoskeletal system,whether it causes growth of penis to stop is not documented.You can ask your dermatologist to start with other anti acne treatment.

My question is there a medical way of slowing down his epiphyseal closure and get his long bone growth to catch up so his mature height can reach its potential of what it was supposed to be before the bone age advancement that I believe resulted from taking the accutane. He also had blood work taken to see his growth hormone level. On a scale of 0 to 6 his Gh reading came back a .2 or 2 tenths which I took as almost 0.

hmmm not to mention they did a test on hamsters that closed their growth plates and peolple have taken pics of the growth plates of 14 year olds and after took it again and they were freaking closed! I wouldnt do it unless he is 6' or over right now. Thats my 2 cents u can always try to find other ways to get rid of acne, but once ur bones are fused u aint growing any more unless you want him to stay in the body that he has now as 14?

My question is regarding human growth hormone releasers and their effects. Please bear in mind that I said releaser pills and not the actual hormone injections. Before you read this please dont dismiss my questions with a sympathetic message for precaution reasons. I am willing to take risks at this point and I understand its impact on my life more than anyone else. I'm a healthy 22-year-old male standing at 5'5" and I'm constantly working out since 2 months now.
(He tolerates pain VERY well) The dr says he cant see if the growth plate is broke or not, and he said the long bone looks fractured but he said he doubts it is due to the fact that my son said he doesnt hurt there. His ankle is swollen now..if it has been swollen this whole time I dont know though, I would have taken him in sooner if I had known. My question is, do I need to get him to the orthopedist ASAP, or is it a strain or sprain like the ER Dr.
a year ago he was examined by an ortho in wales, uk, as the 4 toes were now significantly shorter than the rest, we were told his growth plates had stopped growing and there was nothing they could do, the shortness is now getting even worse can someone please tell me if there is a treatment somewhere that can help him before his bones fuse, he is being constantly bullied because of his toes the advice we were given was for him to not take his shoes off so people wouldnt see his toes!
They are still monitoring it, correct? At the time of injury, it is hard to tell how damaged a growth plate is and if it is permanent. Sometimes they follow an injury through growth. Did they recommend physical therapy? Healing time varies but fractures near or over a growth plate can take several weeks to heal.
im 5'9 and turning 20 on August 11. How much growth potential do I have left?
I broke my growth plate in my foot in late July, had the cast on for about 6 weeks, a walking boot for about 2 or 3, and then physical therapy up until early October (they dismissed me from therapy early because i was doing much better than expected). However whenever I mess with my foot (like twist it or apply pressure) i can tell that somethings wrong because i still feel slight pain. SHould I go back to see my orthopedic doctor, go back to therapy, wear my walking boot again?
I fractured my growth plate on my right ankle about a week ago playing Rugby, a few times I have been forced to not wear my air walker cast wheather it be after taking a shower or just regular discomfort and recently I have been gaining a good amount of confidence of it healing by doing my own slow but productive physio work outs for my ankle, Im just wodering if I'm doing the right thing or not. I've only been on Accutane (actually, a generic brand of it) for ten days, and I experienced my first migraine on day 9. I am unsure if the migraine could be connected to Accutane, but I did a little research and some instances of migraines have been reported by Accutane users. I am just uncertain because I haven't been on it very long, but I am already experiencing dry lips, so I suppose I could be experiencing other side effects already, too.
I asked my doctor about it and he said he did not know anything about accutane causing hair loss. I have researched it and found that it does. I was just wondering if it is in my case. When it thins your hair, does it do it all over, or just at the middle and top, like normal male pattern baldness. Accutane is known to cause problems in skeletal system of growing teens. I took it around the same age as your son and had severe pain. I called "Rosche" the company that makes Accutane and they said it can stunt growth in teens by closing the epiphyseal plates prematurely. I'm 21 now and my height of 5'7'' hasn't increased since my last cycle of Accutane. I also remember having severe joint and muscle pain after HS tennis practices. - 21 male.
17 year old daughter having stomach issues, just got a positive test for celiac, has bad acne, derm wants to put her on accutane. I am worried about the accutane and her stomach. Not sure celiac is only cause of stomach aches. Also birth control pill used to control acne, then she went off and it came back worse than ever. For the melasma, treatment options include treatment with vitamin C and hydrocortisone, peel with carbon dioxide snow and alexandrite and ND-Yag Q-Switched laser treatment preceded by a hydroquinone-based application. I took Accutane in the fall of 2004 and I experienced severe hair loss. (I'm a girl). My hair came out in handfulls for about 6 months. The large amount of hair that usually falls out after washing or brushing hair was falling out every half an hour if i ran my fingers through my hair. I lost about 60% of my hair. It stopped for a few months and started again for a few months to a lesser degree though. And now, 3.5 years later, it stills falls out more frequently than it should.
3 weeks ago I had my 1st eye infection of my entire life in my right eye so I went to an opthamalogist and he told me to stop taking the accutane for a week (which is what he says caused the infection) and put me on doxyclince hyclate 100mg twice a day and eurithromyocin gel to put on my eyelid that knocked the infection out.
