I took Accutane in the fall of 2004 and I experienced severe hair loss. (I'm a girl). My hair came out in handfulls for about 6 months. The large amount of hair that usually falls out after washing or brushing hair was falling out every half an hour if i ran my fingers through my hair. I lost about 60% of my hair. It stopped for a few months and started again for a few months to a lesser degree though. And now, 3.5 years later, it stills falls out more frequently than it should.

It started with the exercise flushing, then I started getting anxiety flushing, and then stress flushing.....I know the nerves are involved to a certain extent, but when ppl talk about nerves its usually wet flushing.
I get wet flushing from the anxiety, and I get dry flushing post exercise and the stress part.

Does anyone know about the scarring after-effects of accutane? I've read several reports of scarring left after it's use. I'm sure that scars are to be expected, as with any open wound, but I don't know if these reports are by anyone with abnormalities with healing/scarring. Here is the situation...
I have mild, maybe slightly moderate acne. I get keloids on other parts of my body, but thankfully not my face. I still get abnormal facial scarring though.
Accutane is known to cause problems in skeletal system of growing teens. I took it around the same age as your son and had severe pain. I called "Rosche" the company that makes Accutane and they said it can stunt growth in teens by closing the epiphyseal plates prematurely. I've only been on Accutane (actually, a generic brand of it) for ten days, and I experienced my first migraine on day 9. I am unsure if the migraine could be connected to Accutane, but I did a little research and some instances of migraines have been reported by Accutane users. 17 year old daughter having stomach issues, just got a positive test for celiac, has bad acne, derm wants to put her on accutane. I am worried about the accutane and her stomach. Not sure celiac is only cause of stomach aches. Also birth control pill used to control acne, then she went off and it came back worse than ever. 3 weeks ago I had my 1st eye infection of my entire life in my right eye so I went to an opthamalogist and he told me to stop taking the accutane for a week (which is what he says caused the infection) and put me on doxyclince hyclate 100mg twice a day and eurithromyocin gel to put on my eyelid that knocked the infection out.

Yes, I had mild acne when I was younger and my dermatologist gave me Accutane, a few months later I was in severe abdominal pain, fever, very weak and ended up in the emergency room originally diagnosed with appendicitis only to find out my appendix was perfect at which point they found the diseased portion of the small intestine and diagnosed me with Crohn's. Initially, I had frequent flare ups and was constantly under medication, but slowly and with the help of the Famous Dr.
I took Accutane for a while and I didn't even get a choice... it was automatic from my dr. you get a script for accutane you also get the script for birth control. The risks are crazy with that medication.
after that i had Shaking in my hand (for 3 month then it removed) and bad concentration (i did not know till now why i did not go dr may i was thinking that is not problem ) after 4 year i did a test for thyroid and the result was positive for hypothyroidism , i want to ask if there is connection between the medication (Isotretinoin and accutane) and hypothyroidism and if it reversible
I can say, nothing has helped the way accutane has. I got a hair cut and made the mistake of getting my hair texturized. My cousin made a comment about my hair so, now I am concerned about it thinning. Upon further inspection, it feels thinner near the crown but, she did texturize my hair. Also, I was laying on it in a certain spot. I took a video with my phone for further inspection finding nothing but I will keep a close eye on it.
Is rogain out of the question while on accutane?
today and he said that he believed it was indeed from the accutane and dryness it causes and advised I stop using accutate! Well 2 months into this I hate to stop now. I have used everything from creams, lotion, neoaspiren and nothing makes it go away but it does soothe the pain. I have an appointment with my dermatologist on Friday and am going to see what she says. After reading this site I have the EXACT thing as described above so I feel much better that it is from the Accutane.
If that is the case, the doctor could have treated it with something other than accutane. How long have you been off accutane and how long have you been treated for depression/anxiety? Was it during the time you were on accutane or once off of it? My gut feeling is that once the accutane is completely out of your system, your depression and anxiety will get back to where they were before.
I'm not sure why you need to start birth control pills or use a back up method a month before starting accutane. Maybe because that med can effect the first month of pills.
You did have a period after starting accutane and you did'nt have unprotected sex until the 13th and 16th. Like I said, if you're like most women you shouldn't be ovulating at that time. Really, the only way to know for sure if you were ovualting is if you were using an ovulation test.
Is anyone aware of a linkage between isotretonoin (Accutane), used for treating cystic acne, and Sjogren's, which is linked to the epithelial cells? At 21, when Accutane first appeared, doses were higher than current (I remember my skin bleeding when scratching lightly with a fingernail). I am now 51, and have had Reynaud's for a number of years, and was just diagnosed with Sjogren's. Just curious if anyone has seen this?
She recently (2 weeks ago) started taking a low dose of accutane every other day and noticed her face and scalp began to itch and flake. She is now concerned about her hair thinning and even being lost, claiming that it has at least begun to thin.
My question: Is there a strong correlation between hair thinning/loss with accutane patients? Should she be concerned about permanent hair loss? If her hair is thinning, is this permanent as well or temporary?
Hi, I actually just took 5 months of accutane and finished a couple months ago. You are fine to keep working out, nothing wrong with that. You shouldn't gain weight either. And there shouldn't be long term side effects. It's rare that you will have major side effects, or hear voices. There are some studies that say some people kill themselves while on this medicine, but if you don't get depressed then you have nothing to worry about.
