Common Questions and Answers about Accutane and eyes

accutane

Avatar m tn In your professional opinion, will the dry eyes and infections go away once I stop takign the accutane or should I stop taking it permanently because of the chance of developing permanent eye problems?
Avatar n tn I have had a problem with acne all my life and took a course of Accutane in my early twenties. I was acne free for 10 years, but then it came back and I developed tiny bumps under my eyes that my dermatologist said were syringoma (after a year of treating it as acne with retin-a and antibiotics). As usual, the antibiotics and retin-a did not do anything to treat my acne problems, so I have begun a new course of Accutane.
Avatar m tn I can say, nothing has helped the way accutane has. I got a hair cut and made the mistake of getting my hair texturized. My cousin made a comment about my hair so, now I am concerned about it thinning. Upon further inspection, it feels thinner near the crown but, she did texturize my hair. Also, I was laying on it in a certain spot. I took a video with my phone for further inspection finding nothing but I will keep a close eye on it. Is rogain out of the question while on accutane?
Avatar f tn i always believed those tablets did me harm.. at the time my eyes were dry and skin too... was told to stay out the sun and that my mucus membranes would temporarily dry out... fast forward to now... years after stoppin the tablets.. and this is what i am left with.. .is there a proven link i wonder??
Avatar f tn This morning I woke up with the most awful pouding pressure headache (my pillow was hurting my head) and my ears feel clogged and pressured and my eyes feel puffy and hurt and I have some tightness in my chest. Everytime I get up and walk around I feel so dizzy and get extremely nauseous. This is like the worst headache I've had in a very long time and its still painful to focus my eyes. Could this be an accutane side effect or maybe a really bad sinus infection?!
Avatar f tn I had this same problem when I was on Accutane, but it went away once i was off the drug. Now it is back and I have been off accutane for over a year. My eyes are not itchy, and there is no discharge to indicate pink-eye. I was tested by an allergist for enviornmental and food allergies and all were negative. I have switched my eye cream and eye make-up in case it was related, but it is still not better. Suggestions?
Avatar n tn I took Accutane in the fall of 2004 and I experienced severe hair loss. (I'm a girl). My hair came out in handfulls for about 6 months. The large amount of hair that usually falls out after washing or brushing hair was falling out every half an hour if i ran my fingers through my hair. I lost about 60% of my hair. It stopped for a few months and started again for a few months to a lesser degree though. And now, 3.5 years later, it stills falls out more frequently than it should.
Avatar m tn Female Accutane patients must use two forms of contraception whilst on Accutane and for 5 weeks afterwards. Male patients do not need to abstain from unprotected sex but must not donate blood in case it is given to a pregnant women. Avoid cosmetic procedures such as laser treatment whilst on Accutane and for 6 months afterwards due to the increased risk of scarring. Use bland cleansing and moisturising treatments, I recommend Eucerin, Lutsine and La Roche-Posay products.
Avatar m tn He took a paper with all the visual side effects of Accutane and checked me for everything even threw in a glaucoma exam and tear producing test and said everything was normal. I had not one visual side effect of Accutane other than mild dryness in the eyes, I have no damaged cells in the cornea either (plus optic nerves are 100% fine as well and I am reading at the 20/20 line though blurry a bit) Should I continue or stop?

Avatar n tn Hi, Accutane can cause blurred vision, sudden and severe headache or pain behind your eyes, sometimes with vomiting as part of its side effects associated with eye, but not really a red line in the eye, as you have stated in your post. If it is part of an allergic reaction then it is possible because conjunctivitis can be caused by an allergic reaction.
Avatar n tn i have started accutane 4 days ago u lot a getting me scared but my face it terrible let u know how i get on
Avatar m tn weight loss ( I was up to 160 right before accutane, lost 20-25 pounds in less than 2 months right after I stopped accutane, and am down to 120 currently) I feel like I have no muscle or fat on me. I'm always hungry but I can't gain a pound.
Avatar m tn Dear quan31 , Thanks for writing in. First of all, please remember that the effects and side effects of accutane will last only for 6 months. So you don't need to bother about it too much. Side effects like dryness of eyes occur only while you are accutane and not after many months of withdrawal of drug. The flushing in your case may be due to acne rosacea which could concomitantly occur with acne vulgaris or after many months.
Avatar n tn I've only been on Accutane (actually, a generic brand of it) for ten days, and I experienced my first migraine on day 9. I am unsure if the migraine could be connected to Accutane, but I did a little research and some instances of migraines have been reported by Accutane users. I am just uncertain because I haven't been on it very long, but I am already experiencing dry lips, so I suppose I could be experiencing other side effects already, too.
Avatar m tn In 2004 i took accutane against my accne. I took a regular cure for 7 months and then stopped. A few months after i stopped i noticed that i looked much MUCH better then i have ever done before, skin color, eyes, hair, body odor, everything changed to normal for me. Then i noticed that i could read articles, watch movies and understand pretty much everything. When i talked to people it was like i saw the words in front of me so i knew what i was going to say all the time.
Avatar n tn I blame it on taking roller coaster rides after accutane treatment. Accutane destroyed my rods and cones probably, and then roller coasters induced partial abnormal PVD at a young age of 24. There is no treatment for after images, as ophthalmologists think it is a "minor" nuisance.
Avatar m tn I started to have vision problems, blurry vision in the distance (especially with contacts) , red eyes, and lack of lubrication in the eyes. I went to my optometrist and told him about my problems.
546892 tn?1214525401 Isotretinoin is a type of medication used to treat severe acne (nodlo cystic or nodular acne) which have failed to respond to other treatments including any type of oral antibiotics and topical application creams. Accutane is strong medicine for acne cure but can have serious side effects.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know about the scarring after-effects of accutane? I've read several reports of scarring left after it's use. I'm sure that scars are to be expected, as with any open wound, but I don't know if these reports are by anyone with abnormalities with healing/scarring. Here is the situation... I have mild, maybe slightly moderate acne. I get keloids on other parts of my body, but thankfully not my face. I still get abnormal facial scarring though.
Avatar n tn 17 year old daughter having stomach issues, just got a positive test for celiac, has bad acne, derm wants to put her on accutane. I am worried about the accutane and her stomach. Not sure celiac is only cause of stomach aches. Also birth control pill used to control acne, then she went off and it came back worse than ever. She is back on the pill for almost 3 months and it is not working. Why?
Avatar m tn I am 19 years old, I have been on Accutane twice. The first time for 7 months (80mg a day) and the second time for 11 months (80mg) a day. Ever since I've taken Accutane I noticed my face is extremely irritable. It gets red, REALLY red, like a tomato for absolutely no reason. I will lean over and my face will be blushed and hot by the time i get up straight. When i go to the gym or even lift something mildly heavy, I get red.
Avatar m tn from the accutane (had trouble getting my prescription renewed) and has continued to get worse despite being off accutane. Anyone have any idea what might be happening to me?
Avatar f tn I just got off 2 rounds of accutane and I just went to the doctor yesterday. Both my doctor and I believe that Accutane have made my IBS severely worse. It changed my body. 1 round of accutane might be OK but I took 2 rounds and I paid the price. Although you will never get hard evidence that it was from Accutane, you know your bady...
Avatar m tn For the melasma, treatment options include treatment with vitamin C and hydrocortisone, peel with carbon dioxide snow and alexandrite and ND-Yag Q-Switched laser treatment preceded by a hydroquinone-based application. But get it done after the course of Accutane. Please discuss these options with your dermatologist. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar n tn Yes, I had mild acne when I was younger and my dermatologist gave me Accutane, a few months later I was in severe abdominal pain, fever, very weak and ended up in the emergency room originally diagnosed with appendicitis only to find out my appendix was perfect at which point they found the diseased portion of the small intestine and diagnosed me with Crohn's. Initially, I had frequent flare ups and was constantly under medication, but slowly and with the help of the Famous Dr.
