Accutane and alcohol side effects

Common Questions and Answers about Accutane and alcohol side effects

accutane

Avatar m tn Hello, It is true that accutane has plenty of side effects. It may cause cheilitis and dry lips but thinning of skin and hair loss are less frequent side effects. From your symptoms first of all hypothyroidism should be ruled out. The second possibility to be ruled out is of vitamin D deficiency.
Avatar n tn However, this and other side effects wore off as my body got used to the medication. I had no side effects, except for dry lips, from 12 weeks onwards and took Accutane for 24 weeks. Side effects are generally dose related. Taking Accutane at the recommended dose for 16 to 24 weeks is your son's best hope of a long term remission from acne. The recommended dose is between 0.5 and 1mg x kg bodyweight per day. So your son should take between 30mg and 60mg per day because he weighs about 60kg.
Avatar n tn His dermatologist stated Claravis was not Accutane which was taken off the market and there were no side effects that we could not monitor with monthly visits and blood work. She also never recommended antibiotics, so this was not a last resort. I took her word and recommendation. I wish I knew better and will always feel guilty over the price my son paid for my taking him to this dermatologist.
Avatar f tn Is this documented that Accutane does cause premature epiphyseal closure? If so why is this drug being prescribed and why isn't this on the long list of side effects. My son was on this and he has not grown since, or while taking it. He was just past his 14th birthday when he took it. His acne was severe and it is also now back. It did clear up for a short time. He is only 5, 5. I started typing in about accutane and growth and have come up with a long list of concerncs about growth.
546892 tn?1214525401 Before begining treatment with Accutain, an individual should discuss about his condition with the health care provider for the possible accutane benefits and side effects in order to get it clear whether the treatment is right. Accutain is used in the treatment of the severest of acne cases which haven't responded to all other types of acne treatments.
Avatar n tn Hi, I actually just took 5 months of accutane and finished a couple months ago. You are fine to keep working out, nothing wrong with that. You shouldn't gain weight either. And there shouldn't be long term side effects. It's rare that you will have major side effects, or hear voices. There are some studies that say some people kill themselves while on this medicine, but if you don't get depressed then you have nothing to worry about.
Avatar f tn ve had in a very long time and its still painful to focus my eyes. Could this be an accutane side effect or maybe a really bad sinus infection?! I don't know what to do or think! (I have been off accutane for two weeks now). I just want to know what this is! has anyone ever experienced this on accutane?
Avatar n tn I've only been on Accutane (actually, a generic brand of it) for ten days, and I experienced my first migraine on day 9. I am unsure if the migraine could be connected to Accutane, but I did a little research and some instances of migraines have been reported by Accutane users. I am just uncertain because I haven't been on it very long, but I am already experiencing dry lips, so I suppose I could be experiencing other side effects already, too.
Avatar f tn Is anyone aware of a linkage between isotretonoin (Accutane), used for treating cystic acne, and Sjogren's, which is linked to the epithelial cells? At 21, when Accutane first appeared, doses were higher than current (I remember my skin bleeding when scratching lightly with a fingernail). I am now 51, and have had Reynaud's for a number of years, and was just diagnosed with Sjogren's. Just curious if anyone has seen this?
Avatar m tn Antibiotics and other topical have not worked well enough and the dermatologist is recommending that I go on accutane. I have an app. about it in several weeks. My father had severe acne until he took accutane for 3 months at a high dose without recieving any negative side effects, which cleared up 90 percent of the acne. My mother didnt have acne. I am ready to go on accutane, but the thing is that I do submission wrestling.

Avatar m tn Dear quan31 , Thanks for writing in. First of all, please remember that the effects and side effects of accutane will last only for 6 months. So you don't need to bother about it too much. Side effects like dryness of eyes occur only while you are accutane and not after many months of withdrawal of drug. The flushing in your case may be due to acne rosacea which could concomitantly occur with acne vulgaris or after many months.
Avatar m tn after that i had Shaking in my hand (for 3 month then it removed) and bad concentration (i did not know till now why i did not go dr may i was thinking that is not problem ) after 4 year i did a test for thyroid and the result was positive for hypothyroidism , i want to ask if there is connection between the medication (Isotretinoin and accutane) and hypothyroidism and if it reversible
Avatar m tn Thanks, I should keep that in mind. I guess the dosage I am currently on is considered low in medical standards. I've already put my dosage on hold for 2 days now as I'm still unfazed about what accutane can do to my bones. There is a very minimal amount of research done on low dose accutane and it's side effects including that on epiphyseal plate available on the net. I guess it's a relatively novel thing?
Avatar m tn We regularly are referred patients by dermatologists for baseline eye exams that are going on Accutane. Ocular side effects are discussed by dermatolists and ophthalmologists AND are listed in the prescribing information.
Avatar n tn I started dating a wonderful girl and wanted to eliminate acne once and for all. I have read all the side effects of accutane before starting treatment but I was determined to get "perfect skin" so I ignored it all. When I started getting back pain, my dermatologist assured me that it was temporary. Well, it is not. Two years later (and I am now single so how about that!) and the pain keeps getting worse.
Avatar m tn He took a paper with all the visual side effects of Accutane and checked me for everything even threw in a glaucoma exam and tear producing test and said everything was normal. I had not one visual side effect of Accutane other than mild dryness in the eyes, I have no damaged cells in the cornea either (plus optic nerves are 100% fine as well and I am reading at the 20/20 line though blurry a bit) Should I continue or stop?
Avatar m tn Hello, I am a 20 year old male and have been taking accutane (claravis) for about 5 months now. I am taking two 40mg pills twice a day... I have experienced a few annoying side effects but one of the major ones i have noticed is hair loss. I had very thick hair pre-accutane and i noticed hair-thnning lately and my hairline as also been receding. This is driving me crazy. Will this be a permanent side-effect or temporary and will my hair come back to its original hair-line.
Avatar n tn As a patient with MS, you can expect to have the same risks and side effects as other people on accutane, and these side effects and risks need to be discussed with you by your dermatologist before you start taking it. However, I would also run this by your neurologist who manages your MS just to make sure he/she feels that accutane may affect your MS in some way. Thank you for this opportunity to answer your questions, I hope you find the information I have provided useful, good luck.
Avatar n tn Hi, Accutane is an isotretinoin, may indeed cause such rash (including facial erythema, seborrhea, and eczema) as a side effect. Effects are usually dose related ( dependent on the dosage applied). Aside from the rash, other observed side effects include: alopecia , bruising, dry mouth, dry skin, flushing, fragility of skin, hair abnormalities, hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation, pruritus, abnormal wound healing ( ref: http://www.rxlist.com/accutane-drug.htm).
8812528 tn?1400857632 If it were me, I would discuss the drug and side effects with not only your doctor, but if possible, contact your closest teaching hospital and reach out to the pharmacy for answers. Be very careful. I hope you keep us informed.
Avatar m tn I am reading about some of the side effects and it is scaring me. Could I develop some of these serious side effects, my eczema has been pretty bad since then, lots of bad flare ups all over my body (is this a direct result of taking the accutane)? I also have very bad gas and my symptoms match that of Irratible bowle syndrome, is this a direct result of the accutane? Please help.
