Abscess with cellulitis

Common Questions and Answers about Abscess with cellulitis

abscess

Avatar n tn If a diagnosis of cellulitis is made there is very little pus produced to drain and so antibiotics are sufficient and drainage is not required. A simple test to diagnose a cellulitis is to touch it - if it's rock hard its probably a cellulitis. An abscess on the other hand is a collection of pus which the body forms to wall off from the rest of the body and so must be drained. A simple test for an abscess is to touch it - if it's soft its probably an abscess.
Avatar m tn Afternoon. I have had cellulitis in my nose for over a month.... took Bactrim, Clindamycin, and another 5 days of Bactrim.. which didn't help in the first place... but... i have this swollen membrane (i guess) from the tip of my nose about 1/2 inch back... it always feels like it is going to swell up again.... with no insurance another 125.00 is not what I want to pay since it seems like none of that helped anyway... anybody have any thoughts on this one???
Avatar m tn I start out with a abscess that was opened with a needle (doctor thought it was a boil but it wasn't) it spread through my bloodstream and turned into MRSA. It's contagious if he had a opened wound and you came in contact with his blood or other bodily fluids. If you are concerned you can have a lab test ran to have your doctor run a swab test of your nose, groin and armpits. I got mine just from going to the hospital for surgery.
4251679 tn?1370305531 My poor niece just had surgery on a hernia(spelling?) on the inside of her leg 8 days ago. Yesterday my sister noticed a big bruise on her lady parts and major swelling had started to form right by the incision. The doctors aren't sure what it is or what caused it, they're thinking its cellulitis but for it to be cellulitis there has to be an abscess which hasn't formed. Prayers that these damn drs can figure out what the issue is and fix it!
Avatar m tn It sounds like you have a lowered immunity or are getting exposed to bacteria for example from children who have been at a day care center or some other similar place. After you clear yourself of this abscess try changing towels more often and don't share. Keep everything clean and wash hands more often. Wash clothes that have been exposed to the absces in hot soapy water. Change clothes often. Staph is easily spread and can spread easily.
Avatar f tn 2 days ago, I had a dental abscess in the upper right side of my mouth, between the tooth and the gum, and it was slowly draining from a hole in my gum... So, I decided to try and squeeze some of the infection out myself and as I was in the process of doing so, the abscess busted and drained internally (into my cheek). My face started swelling immediately and in about 15 seconds, it had tripled in size!
Avatar f tn In the middle of the crook of this arm, the same day of the swelling onset, a strange small blister came quickly and quickly burst with blood. After blood, abscess-like blister has been draining tan fluid along with tiny squishy chunky solid pieces or particles. No foul odor.
Avatar n tn ve googled and see that some potential causes are cellulitis, hypothyroidism, tooth abscess, allergies, trauma, infections, inflammation, I think lupus?, and cancer. I have had some recent dental issues (infection, teeth pulled, roots left too long after a tooth fell out). Has anyone had this? So weird. I mean, I guess I should assume it's from the dental stuff, but I just had another panoramic xray, and the dentist said everything was fine.
Avatar m tn Please tell me if this needs antibiotics, that is an ( =like 1" across and was 1" high) abscess that was drained, that is a weird rash that I think might be cellulitis? on the top is one that formed with it at the same time and is now just a scar and a hard lump. Before them I had 1 in the middle of the armpit like lymph node area and that lasted a week and disappeared, then a few days later those 2 formed, and it's been 7 or 8 days since then.
Avatar f tn When infection goes deeper it is called cellulitis. You may need antibiotic therapy, especially if is around the nose or lip.Do consult your doc.
Avatar f tn It all started 8 months ago...the lymph node on the left side of my groin area swelled, I had a draining abscess on the outside of my labia and I took myself to the emergency room...blood tests and swabs confirmed my diagnosis was cellulitis. I was placed on a course of antibiotics and within 2 weeks the would had healed...a month goes by, it returns in the same place with lymph nose swelling and all...I go to my primary this time, and she doubled down on the antibiotics and sent me home...
Avatar n tn It may be cellulitis. The antibiotics may be preventing the spread of the infection but it won't resolve the underlying issue which is a bad tooth. You should have him see a dentist and probably extract or do a root canal on the bad tooth. It is extremely important to take care of it as the infection can spread and be life threatening.
1373769 tn?1278603610 Do not wait to see if the redness or swelling is going to pass -- my leg with the Cellulitis became almost double its regular size within 3 days (hence surgery)!
Avatar m tn I have had a smallish (maybe 2 cm in diameter) skin abscess or infected cyst on my back next to my cervical spine for the last 2 weeks which doesn't seem to be getting bigger or coming to a head (I tried squeezing it thinking it was a pimple at first.) When I touch it, it feels soft/puffy as though there's some fluid under it (same as a gum boil) and it's no longer hot/painful, just itchy sometimes.
Avatar n tn One other possibility might be that the apical abscess in the alveolar bone is flaring up with no path of exit since the root canal was completed. In the presence of a lot of draining pus in the root canal system, sometimes antibiotics or a delay in finishing to allow drainage is a good idea. As is it now, hopefully someone can see you to determine whether antibiotics or a retreatment might be in order.
1737159 tn?1316672635 If there is already an abscess, I, personally, would go ahead with the surgery. You only get one set of eyes in this life and I feel the risk of the infection causing permanent loss of sight (or other troubles with the eye) are a much greater concern than the possibility of your son having a scar from the surgery. You also don't want to run the risk of the infection from the eye becoming systemic (going throughout your son's entire body) - that would be a BAD situation.
Avatar m tn A couple of month later a small wart appeared in the same place where the thorn was, now that wart has doubled in size (about 3/4 in in diam) I am treating it with apple cider vinigar, but it hurts like crazy. Just wandering if anyone has heard of this?......
Avatar m tn It was minor, according to his dentist (I asked if it could be life threatening and she laughed), and she said there was a very small abscess which went away. He took penicillin and did topical antimicrobial and he says he feels totally fine now. (he never had a fever or swollen lymph nodes- just some swelling at the gum). He saw two dentists, both of whom told him he should get all his wisdom teeth out even though they're not impacted or decaying (they did x rays).
Avatar m tn I contracted shingles 7 weeks ago and was misdiagnosed. I presented with only one sore at my cheekbone and was given clindamycin orally for 14 days and Bactroban ointment for topical use. The sore was believed to be an early indication of MRSA. I quickly developed cellulitis and swelling near, but not touching, the apparent abscess, as well as blisters in my nose. I used the mupiricin.(Bactroban) to keep the nasal blisters moist.
Avatar m tn I feel way much better. No pain, no fevers, etc. The abscess is really small, like dots. I asked if it was contagious when I was there and the person I asked told me "as long as you're getting better, it shouldn't be contagious". I was also wondering can I kiss anybody now that I've been on antibiotics for 10 days? I would like to hear from other people. Thank you in advance.
Avatar f tn I personally agree with opus88, anyways no its not contageous in anyway , cats are territorial animals they fight with other cats to protect their territory or to acquire more territory. As a result, bite wounds are common in cats, especially when cats are allowed outside. These wounds frequently result in an infection that can be quite debilitating, especially if left untreated. Bite wounds are more common in male cats than in females.
Avatar f tn org/health/conditions-and-diseases/cellulitis That link is helpful. It also states that cellulitis is common in legs (and therefore, feet as well). Since both of the above are treated with antibiotics, this may be why they went that route. Have they helped? Your chest hurting is always worrisome and it's important to get that checked out. It 'could' be your anxiety over the pain or a pain response as well.
Avatar m tn The fingertip of her right ring finger is swollen with white dead skin which looks more like a fungal infection. No apparent necrosis, but the fingernail has separated and also *appears* to be infected with fungus. She has had IV antibiotics twice as well as antibiotic and antifungal pills, and it was non-responsive to the drugs. Tested negative for MRSA. Finger hurts and is pinkish-red. It is dry with no discharge.
Avatar n tn In my case both eyes swelled shut, my face was covered with sores and an abscess the size of a lemon on my forehead which still has my skin looking brown. It actually ruptured on its one and drained for days, that was very nauseating. I just want to know now that I am done my 3rd course of clydamycin is it gone. I still have scars where the infection was and a hard lump under the worst spot of infection. I hope this study I am helping with comes up with some answers. Thanks Dr.
