Avatar m tn It is difficult to comment without examination. Lump under the ear could also be an abscess, folliculitis (hair follicle infection), lipoma (localized collection of fat), a cyst, an inflamed lymph node or a neurofibroma (localized harmless swelling in of nerve and connective tissue). It could also be TMJ. Please consult your PCP for a preliminary examination. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
5887486 tn?1376104591 You could see if any of the draining areas have any evidence of infection, like the throat, tonsils, the skin, tooth abscess or an ear infection. If you develop any additional symptoms like sore throat or ear pain or fever, consult your primary care physician for proper clinical assessment. In the meantime for pain relief you can use OTC Tylenol (acetaminophen). Regards.
Avatar f tn It showed up there after eating breakfast yesterday, and the swelling is still there. I also get a swelling under my right ear when i eat as well. But that seems to go after about 15 minutes. Can u tell me what this is.
Avatar f tn Sharp stabbing pain behind the ear and soreness can be due to an enlarged lymph node, tonsillitis, mumps, ear infection, dental abscess and injury. I would suggest you to take OTC anti-inflammatory agents like Motrin and apply some alternate hot and cold compress on the affected part. Hopefully your pain will be relieved. In the meantime please schedule an appointment with your GP. Good luck!
Avatar f tn My 84 yo mother developed an egg size growth under her left ear on her neck. It prevents some movement and is very sore to the touch.
Avatar n tn m a 24 year old female-A couple of months ago I woke up with a painful pea to marble sized lump under the skin on my ear. It is located right where my ear connects to my head, on the bottom. Like if I were to pull my earlobe away from my head, it is in that "flap" of skin. Because it was painful and hard, I assumed it was a boil as I have had these in the past. I treated it with warm washclothes and heating pads, but the lump never softened or drained, however, the pain did go away.

Avatar n tn well i am pretty self aware and two days ago i noticed a kidney bean shaped soft bump directly behind my left ear. it took less than a day to go from nothing to bean sized. it is soft for the most part, if i feel near the top of it, it feels kinda hard, like a layer under the puss maybe. i can move it a little, definetly feels like it is filled with puss. i have in the past had a bump appear, only to shrink and harden and eventualy i will forget about it, i had one on my upper eyelid.
Avatar m tn by the time i got to the er the doctor told me that my abscess was 1 inch by 3/8 of an inch big. that is pretty large for an abscess. with something like this the longer you put it off the worst it will get. hope you feel better soon.

Avatar n tn Lump behind the ear could be an abscess, folliculitis (hair follicle infection), lipoma (localized collection of fat), a cyst, an inflamed lymph node or a neurofibroma (localized harmless swelling in of nerve and connective tissue). You may not have been sick but local infections like dandruff or a dermatitis too can cause a lymph node to swell and be tender. Please consult your PCP and get this examined. Take care!

1142537 tn?1261112000 I have a lump in my cheek just under my left ear. It is round and hard. It hurts to touch. Does anyone know what it could be?
Avatar f tn Last night I began to feel pain under my left armpit. I examined the area and don't feel any lumps below the skin but I don't see any obvious ingrown hairs or irritations either. How would I know whether this is a swollen lymph node or something more superficial? Thanks so much in advance.
Avatar n tn Hi! You probably have a boil or abscess on your ear lobe. Neck lymph nodes can be the result of tonsillitis, pharyngitis (infection of upper throat), infection in mouth, caries in tooth, internal ear infection, outer ear infection, eczema, dermatitis, dandruff, breast cancer, fungal infection, other cancers like lymphoma etc. If you had flu like symptoms initially then it could be due to infectious mononucleosis too. In your case in all probability it is the outer ear infection.
Avatar f tn You do not say whether your doctor prescribed you an antibiotic to take by mouth or antibiotic ear drops. If not, then you should get back to your doctor to get a prescription to treat the abscess. I feel that the pain that you are experiencing in the front side of your head is likely to be related to the infection in the ear canal and is to do with blocked or infected sinuses. You can help to relieve any congestion that can cause these symptoms by doing steam inhalations.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have a small hole on each side of my ear and the one on my right ear is the active one that secretes white stuff that smell pretty bad. So I watched a video on youtube about preauricular sinus infection and I learned that it could lead to the formation of abscess. When I was young, I didn't know what the hole was and I often got very irritated with it when it had secretions.
Avatar n tn Soon after I had internatal vibrations (head and arms), tightening around neck area, ear and gum pressure and some vision problems. I have had a clear MRI and all blood work came back ok apart from B12 level of 120 and low calcium and vitamin d level, but after taking suppliments these levels rectified themselves. Therefore my doctor has ruled out vitamin deficiencies and the neurologist also seems think there is nothing seriously wrong.
Avatar n tn You need to run a test for moniliasis to rule this out. It could also be due to caries in tooth, abscess in gums, pyorrhea, abscess in cheek, or infection of internal ear. It could also be due to osteomyelitis of the jaw bone or due to involvement of temporomandibular joint. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. You would need to consult a dentist and an ENT specialist for this. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar m tn I have a very hard lump under my skin on the back of my head behind my left ear.. the area burns and has a numbing pain to it. It does not hurt to the touch and it's about the size of a grape.
Avatar n tn I have a lump under my scalp on the top of my head. I asked 2 different doctors about it and they both told me that it's just a fat deposit. This is my regular family doctor's office though. It's a medical group. Anyway I wanted to know if I should get a second opinion on this. The bump doesn't hurt or anything it's just kind of annoying and bothersome because I know that it's there. Please answer my question.
Avatar f tn This is quite weird..I have a nodule (not big) half under my nipple and half out..I think it will be an abscess soon..have you ever had that? I wonder how it will drain by itself....I mean on what part of the skin.... Thanks!
Avatar m tn I just recently got a lump under my skin near the bottom of my butt crack. I had it for about 3 days. Its about the size of a 50 cents piece, and its hard and sore. Its very very sore in one spot. I haven't noticed a change in my skin color. I've read that it could be from an infection of some sort. An ear piercing that I have got infected from using non gold about a week ago.
Avatar n tn hi i think i have an abcess under my right arm it comes up and then about a week later it goes down it doesnt come to a head though it is red on the outside. i also have a lump in the centre of my right arm pit (same arm as the abcess) is this possible for this lump to be my gland? asif it was aything serius it wouldnt come and g would it!
Avatar n tn Lump behind the ear which is hard could be an abscess, folliculitis (hair follicle infection), an infected cyst, an inflamed lymph node or a neurofibroma (localized harmless swelling in of nerve and connective tissue). However swollen lymphnodes behind your ears could be due to chest infection, tonsillitis or pharyngitis, dandruff, or infection of ear. The inflamed nodes settle down with time. However, it is important you consult a doctor and get this examined.
Avatar f tn At the same time, I was experiencing a pressure/pulling sensation down my jaw, around my ear and down my neck. I was first given a round of antibiotics, and the pain, abscess and pressure/pulling sensation all went away. I then went in a few weeks later to have the cavities filled as there were 2 right next to each other that were very close to the root, but the dentist was able to just repair them with a filling and not a root canal.
