Abscess tooth under crown

Common Questions and Answers about Abscess tooth under crown

abscess

Avatar f tn Most x-rays will not provide excellent clarity of a crowned tooth, thus missing the decay. If you are having pain, the tooth under the crown is inflamed, infected and bacteria are usually the cause. Antibiotics may provide some temporary partial relief but will likely not cure the problem. A root canal is most likely needed, and a dentist can do this, but the best is to see an Endodontics, which is a specialist for doing root canals.
Avatar n tn If you have an infection under a crown you will need to get the tooth treated if you plan on keeping the tooth. If it is decay, you will lose the tooth if you leave it untreated. If you have an abscess, you may lose the tooth and if the infection is left untreated it could possibly lead to septicemia or death (depending on location). You should see your dentist.
Avatar n tn You should really take care of that broken tooth before it gets worse and can result in an abscess where the infection spreads. As for the pain, its possible you may have something going on with the other tooth as well or what we term, referred pain. Referred pain is when there's pain in one area but it feels like its somewhere else due to the complexities of the nervous system of the head.
Avatar n tn Do you think this is a definite sign of a tooth abscess due to the trauma of the crown? When I called about the appointment, they were already talking about the possibility of being referred to an endodontist for a potential root canal. Is this my only option? Can I not just kill off the infection with antibiotics? I broke the bank on the crown (no dental insurance), and I simply cannot afford another expensive procedure.
Avatar f tn Dentist treated with Cavitron and said tooth would need to be extracted if swelling continued. Four days ago, had tooth 14 prepped for crown. All okay first day, then cheek and jaw started swelling and have not improved. No pain in tooth 14. Made an independent appt with Oral Surgeon but can't get in for three weeks. Any ideas/suggestions? And, why would tooth 14 exacerbate 29? Or, is it a separate problem? Thanks so much for any help/advice!
Avatar m tn I have recently had a crown on a rear bottom tooth. I had lost part of my tooth due to excessing grinding and fillings kept coming out. The dentist put in a temp filling for a few weeks. This was extremely painful for a few days, the gum went white underneath and there was a lot of pain in the jaw / gum but no pain in the tooth. I think this was due to long term problems I have with TMJ but cleared up after a few days. I returned to dentist for crown prep and explained the situation.
Avatar m tn I recently had a crown on a rear bottom tooth. Dentist put in temp filling for few week - extremely painful for few days, gum went white underneath and lots of pain in the jaw / gum but no pain in tooth (prob due to LT problem with TMJ). I returned to dentist for crown prep and she said that due to this problem with temp filling and fact that hole went close to root cavity I may need RCT.
Avatar f tn Your English is just fine. You need to go to the dentist!!!! Infections spread rapidly in the mouth!!! Do you mean an abscess or a tumor. Abscess if you don't know is usually an infection under the tooth in the roots. I know it can be expensive but you shouldn't be in this discomfort! They use different antibiotics for different infections. I do wonder why you didn't go back before this! Dental pain can be so bad. Take care.
20847907 tn?1534539744 can tooth abscess cause a lymph node to rise i had it removed and the dentist said that there was an infection inside the tooth under the crown ( he said the tooth was split via xray ) but as he took the tooth out he said it had infection of it and gave me antibiotics
Avatar f tn I had a crown put on a broken tooth 10 days ago. I still have an ulcer and quite a bit of pain on the gum under the crown. The novacaine injection hurt terribly, like never before. Could there have been some damage that I still have pain. The office told me to keep gargling with salt water. But after 10 days, the ulcer from what I think was trauma from the instruments is still here. Can this trauma cause an abscess?
Avatar n tn i just noticed , my dog suddenly had a swollen ball under his eye. what could this be from?? he is eating and drinking and acting normal except the ball under his eye stands out very much and it only occurred minutes ago.. does anyone knowwhat it could be from?? and what i can do???
Avatar f tn I woke up on monday morning in extreme pain and with a completely swollen top lip, stretched nose and puffy cheek. Having no idea what was wrong I went to the doctors and was put on amoxcillin (they weren't sure what was wrong as the abscess isn't visible, it is really high up under my lip and quite large).
Avatar f tn I had crowning last week on my incisor tooth. The next day after i had the crown i felt an throbing pain on the crowned tooth. I went to the doctor and he advised me of doing root canal. 2 days later he cleaned my canal and injected antibiotics in my canals. My question is that 1) In how many days abscess is going to heal? 2) why he didnt prescirbed me any antibiotics? 3) if the infection is healed can i put crown without doing root canal?
Avatar m tn m experiencing a burning pain in the upper part of the tooth and gums. The pain will radiate from the tooth to the entire side of my face (right front tooth and right side of my face). I can feel a very sore spot under the upper part of my lip as well as soreness right below my nose if I press on it. The pain is off and on but sleeping has become difficult. I will be seeing a dentist when my insurance kicks in (11/26) but I need to figure something out till then.
Avatar n tn The Endo gave me two options. Either to retreat the root canal and hope the crown doesn't break in the process OR get the tooth pulled and get an implant. He never mentioned the possibility of the crown being loose until I mentioned that as a possibility. He stated he couldn't determine if decay was present under the crown without venturing in, possibly damaging the crown.
Avatar n tn He decided on root canal and called the endodontist (appt is for Thursday). The dentist showed me the film and although the tooth root looks okay (no black area of abscess), there is a "white ring shadow" above the tooth root. He said that is indicative of a sinus problem. He asked if I had a cold or sinus infection but I haven't had any cold or nasal drip for years.
Avatar n tn I have an abscess that developed at the root underneath the crown. My options another root canal, pull tooth, c how infection clears depending how severe or a little bit more drilling if tooth is decayed. I hope this puts your thoughts at ease. My apt is today. I'll let know how it turned out.
Avatar n tn s endodontically related to a problem with the tooth, but a periodontal abscess could also cause a similar issue. There are also perio-endo and endo-perio combined events that can occur. Go see your dentist and have the area and tooth examined.
Avatar n tn they need him to come back in for a check up in a couple days. i guess because the tooth is crack under the crown and it may not be repairable. so we will see next week. wereally hope they can do a r.c instead of pulling the tooth. Thank you for your info! you were EXACTLY right!
Avatar f tn I have decay under crown and dentist wants to remove tooth but I also have a bridge next to this and the supporting tooth for this has roots going sideways due to an impacted tooth in gum line. This may become unstable after extraction and i end up with a large gap . what is the alternative. I have no pain under crown but gum is soft due to the decay.
Avatar m tn Hello, A dental examination is important for detecting the cause of your symptoms. It is possible that there could be an abscess or retention of debris under the bridge. A loose crown can lead to lodgement of bacteria under it and cause bad odour.Other causes of bad breath from mouth are tooth decay, sinus disease or gum diseases or reflux disease. Tonsilloliths can also cause bad breath, sore throat, white debris, difficulty in swallowing and tonsillar swelling .These are only possibilities.
Avatar m tn //www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/tooth-abscess/symptoms-causes/syc-20350901 This article that you can copy and paste into your browser describes what an infection might feel like. Sensitivity to hot or cold, throbbing pain, sensitivity to chewing or biting, etc. Is this the kind of pain you feel? Or more likely has the broke tooth damaged or affected the root? That's another reason they are suggesting you may have to have a root canal in the end.
Avatar m tn t so bad and sometimes I forget I even have a crown back there. It looks and feels like a tooth.
Avatar n tn ve moved since then and he is too far away. How can a nerve die under a crown? When he put the crown on my tooth hurt the whole time, he said he couldn't numb it any further and I would just have to put up with it.
Avatar n tn If you are going to place a crown on this tooth and the old root canal has been exposed to the bacteria in your mouth(cotton ball had nothing to do with it) then it would behoove you to make sure the rct is in good order. I would suggest you have the rct retreated and the crown placed.
Avatar n tn t think it would be an absess, because the tooth under the crown has had a root canal already. Although it is a double crown that is splinted, so it might have something to do with that, but it's beside the tooth that has had a root canal. That, and it doesn't hurt, so you'd think something like that would hurt. I go for regular checkups and cleanings, but I am due for my next cleaning in about a month. I could try and get in earlier though.
