Common Questions and Answers about Abscess tooth treatment

Avatar n tn i have had an abscess on my bottom left back tooth since nov. I had a baby end of dec so back in nov not much could have been done. I am now on my third lot of antibiotics that dont seem to be doing anything. The dentist has tried on three occasions to drill the tooth but for some reason it wont numb - she gave me five different injections last time! I am worried that i have been taking parcetomol since nov and am sick of feeling so ill and being in pain day and night, what can i do.
Avatar f tn I have never had a tooth abscess until now. I called my dentist and they are trying to help me to keep cost down bc I have no insurance and xmas is right around corner so money is tight. I have a back molar that broke about 3 months ago ive been trying to save up for root canal but now I think I will need it pulled. The tooth stopped hurting and then I got the pus pocket under it that would flare up but then go down.
Avatar m tn Yes i have they give me tablets then said come back Monday to have it out, but all the swelling as now spread to my neck so a bit worries
Avatar m tn My tooth had a hairline crack and the only time it hurt me was if tiny grains would get in it. That was massively painful. The dentist gave me a root canal.
Avatar m tn Hello, The exact treatment for your condition can be determined only after a complete clinical examination. Cancer treatment can affect the oral cavity in many ways. It can lead to oral mucositis, tooth decay, osteonecrosis, or painful sores in your mouth or throat. If the tooth is healthy and can be saved your doctor will avoid pulling it out.It is important to care for infections in your mouth before they spread to your blood stream.
Avatar n tn Hello, A tooth abscess usually occurs as a complication of tooth decay. It can occur as a result of trauma to the tooth, such as when a tooth is broken or chipped. Antibiotics are given to fight the infection. Warm salt-water rinses may help. Over-the-counter pain relievers may relieve the toothache and fever. See your dentist. You may need another antibiotic and treatment of the underlying cause is very important. Hope you find this information useful. Best luck and regards!
Avatar f tn i too had an abscess,my tooth had to be extracted(it was the tooth that already had root canal treatment,i had cracked it) and was on 3 different antibiotics.it took me just over 2weeks to heal.
Avatar n tn He said that he's got a tooth abscess in a healthy tooth and that the tooth should be extracted. He said it is unusual in cats and that they don't know the cause. He also suggested some antibiotics for a few days before the surgery to help with the infection. Just wondering if it is worth trying to save the tooth. Go through the course of antibiotics and see if he gets better. My vet made me feel like I was just being cheap and that conventional wisdom is to just remove the tooth.
Avatar n tn see both then make a choice endo and a surgeon thats what I did and made the choice for the tooth to be removed and an implant put in. I made the right choice in my case the tooth could not be saved and the implant is amazing better than my real tooth. I chose the later after hearing there was no garantee another root canal would take and if it did maybe for a year or two and I did not want to go to one then have the other a few years later.
Avatar f tn I've had a tooth abscess since the beginning of this year sometime. I went to the ER because my jaw had become so swollen that it was completely ridiculous. They gave me penicillin which I took (28 pills, 3 times a day with food). When I finished that bottle I realized that there was still a sort of blister on my gum even though it was much smaller than it used to be.
Avatar f tn The only possible reason for this abscess that I can think of is that about a year ago, my front tooth got the corner chipped off. Please respond asap... I am a worrier!! This discussion is related to dental abscess.
Avatar f tn "A tooth abscess is an infection that occurs in a tooth that can cause a toothache, and if left untreated can cause loss of tooth or spread to other parts of the body" Causes of Tooth Abscess
Avatar m tn There can be an extra canal in the root which might not have filled and can act as a site for multiplication and proliferation of bacteria and formation off dental abscess. Depending on the cause you will need treatment of the cause and appropriate antibiotic course. See your dentist and keep me posted. I sincerely hope it helps. Best wishes and regards!

Avatar m tn Hello, A dental examination is necessary for correct diagnosis and management of your condition. A tooth abscess is usually a complication of tooth decay. Prompt treatment can save the tooth and a root canal may be recommended in an attempt to save the tooth. Untreated abscesses may get worse and can lead to life-threatening complications.
Avatar n tn i have a deteriorating wisdom tooth that has been untreated. my jaw has locked twice before and i had mastoiditis, all within the last 4 months. now, however, there is a gap that can be clearly felt along my lower right jaw bone that is very painful and sensitive to the touch. my lymph glands are also touchy on that side only. the wisdom tooth is raised and swollen, but i have no fever, chills, or nausea.
Avatar n tn I'v just noticed a big abscess above my tooth, i already know i need root canal treatment for the tooth but my dentist can't take me for another week. Is it safe to wait that long without anti-biotics or treatment?
Avatar n tn i posted before. i had an abscessed tooth and the abscess spread into my cheek. my dentist put me on keflex but after 10 days there was still noticable swelling in my cheek. so now the dentist has put me on a stronger antibiotic. when i woke up this morning i felt a very large "bubble" on my inside cheek.
Avatar m tn Hi, I had crown done following the root canal treatment on 14th tooth 3 years ago due to a regular recurring abscess. After the root canal treatment and crown, i used to get abscess at exactly the same location every now and then but that time with no pain. A month ago the abscess recurred again after a long while, so i went to a dentist (a different this time since i have moved places). He suggested that the previous root canal was not done properly and that the crown had to be removed.
Avatar f tn ) Afterwards, pressure sensitivity improved but gum swelled on the linqual side. Dentist treated with Cavitron and said tooth would need to be extracted if swelling continued. Four days ago, had tooth 14 prepped for crown. All okay first day, then cheek and jaw started swelling and have not improved. No pain in tooth 14. Made an independent appt with Oral Surgeon but can't get in for three weeks. Any ideas/suggestions? And, why would tooth 14 exacerbate 29? Or, is it a separate problem?
Avatar n tn I have recently developed a dental abscess on the lower left side of my gum. It is located below the screw they placed during surgery. I went to my local dentist and he told me to contact my Maxillofacial Surgery and prescribed 500 mg of Amoxicillin because it may be related to the screw. I have no pain at all in my tooth only the discomfort of having a swollen gum and what feels like like a hard bump a little above the abscess.
Avatar f tn About 4 hours later, her face had become about 3 times bigger than it was this morning. She obviously has an abscess tooth and since she has other health issues i am quite concerned that this infection could make her very ill or worse.
