abscess

Avatar f tn Also, not taking care of an abscess tooth and the infection going into your blood stream in severe cases can cause death.
Avatar f tn i too had an abscess,my tooth had to be extracted(it was the tooth that already had root canal treatment,i had cracked it) and was on 3 different antibiotics.it took me just over 2weeks to heal.
Avatar n tn He said that he's got a tooth abscess in a healthy tooth and that the tooth should be extracted. He said it is unusual in cats and that they don't know the cause. He also suggested some antibiotics for a few days before the surgery to help with the infection. Just wondering if it is worth trying to save the tooth. Go through the course of antibiotics and see if he gets better. My vet made me feel like I was just being cheap and that conventional wisdom is to just remove the tooth.
Avatar m tn My implant was completed 4 months ago with the crown and out of nowhere I got an abscess in the same spot of my gums above the tooth. Much smaller than other time and no pain or swelling. Can you get an infection and not have to have the tooth removed? Does this happen? Thank you.
Avatar m tn i live in pain for the past 28 years of my life... Two days ago a tooth that has been cracked for about 6 months developed an abscess.. i got the routine pain along with a bit of swelling, however no bubble in the gum line.. I woke up yesterday with a bit of swelling in the cheek, and put myself on amoxicillin which i have plenty left from previous incidents.. Normally when i have an abscess, i'll switch between amoxicillin and penicillin to keep my body from adapting to either type of med.
Avatar m tn Hello, A dental examination is necessary for correct diagnosis and management of your condition. A tooth abscess is usually a complication of tooth decay. Prompt treatment can save the tooth and a root canal may be recommended in an attempt to save the tooth. Untreated abscesses may get worse and can lead to life-threatening complications.
Avatar f tn He said a upper tooth on that side showed infection and it had already had a root canal and crown, so he retreated the tooth. He said the tooth smelled horrible while he was cleaning it out. He wasn't going to put me on antibiotics but I kind of insisted. It has been several weeks and the nodes in my neck are still swollen and now the ones under my jaw are swelling up and I have stiffness at the base of the back of my head and neck..

Avatar n tn My question is what kind of disease, besides dental, could cause tooth abcesses, miniscus problems, fatigue, muscle soreness? I am very worried hope someone can help.
Avatar m tn Hello, A tooth abscess is a complication of tooth decay. There is sharp shooting pain when chewing. Antibiotics and warm salt-water rinses may be soothing. Over-the-counter pain relievers may relieve the toothache and fever. Prompt treatment can save the tooth and a root canal may be recommended in an attempt to save the tooth. Untreated abscesses may get worse and can lead to life-threatening complications.
Avatar n tn I've had an abscess on my gum area that started in my tooth for about a week. I've been on antibiotics (clindamycin 150 MG) for 5 days with painkillers. I've been swollen the entire time and have knot on my jaw. The dentist wont lance it because it hasn't come to a head yet. So, do I go to urgent care, or wait it out to see if it will ever come to a head? Thanks!
Avatar n tn The abscess first occurred about 4 months ago and was treated successfully with a 10-day course of Erythromyacin. Then the abscess came back about one month ago. I have since tried to treat it with a 7-day course of Moxycyllin (unsuccessful) and now a 10-day course of Clindamycin. It doesn't seem like this course is working either. My endodontist seems to believe that the antibiotics will work eventually. The abscess hasn't been drained yet.
Avatar n tn Plenty of women get them and other dental work done during pregnancy. You could have an infection and they need to treat it. I would find another dentist asap.
Avatar n tn I have an abscess that has gotten progressively worse despite two shots of antibotics and one day of clindamycin and one day of amoxacilin. The swelling and pain is getting worse. Two shots of deadening medicine would not deaden the nerve, so my dentist postponed the root canal. Should I go to the emergency room for an evaluation?
Avatar m tn Tooth decay if left untreated can result in tooth abscess. Prompt treatment can save the tooth and a root canal may be recommended in an attempt to save the tooth. Untreated abscesses may get worse and can lead to life-threatening complications. You may need antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs if there is pain associated with it. Amoxicillin is drug of choice.Metrogyl can be used as an alternative drug. Discuss your concerns with your dentist. Do write to me again. Best luck and regards!
Avatar n tn The conclusion was that most seem to be infections of some sort, along with the advice to have a endodontist check for various problems. I have decided to treat myself and started taking Cipro 500mg tabs. I have taken them for approximately 5 nights now and alternate 1 tab and then 2 tabs. I have had relief and only have slight pain now. I have made it a point to use my waterpik every night since I started the antibiotics with special attention to this area. My questions are...
Avatar f tn Or is an abscess and a tooth infection the same thing??? Also, will he do more x-rays to make sure it's gone???
Avatar n tn It is definitely more risky to not treat the problem and possibly develop an abscess.
Avatar f tn Should I worry about jaw cancer, or is it likely to be a simple tooth abcess that he can treat easily? Please help. Thank you in advance.
Avatar f tn The only ways to treat an abscess is either root canal therapy or extraction. The reason for the antibiotics is to help treat the pain and to keep the infection from spreading after treatment, but does not actually treat the source of the problem. Cipro is not normally prescribed for abscesses and its best to take the antibiotic prescribed since you would need to take a full round. Also, the antibiotics do expire so your cipro might not even be good anymore.
Avatar n tn I urge you to at least call your dentist for approval before you treat a dental abscess yourself. Amoxicillin may be fine, but you may need something like clindamycin instead. Also, it's very important that a FULL dose is taken for dental infections. Not to do so will only breed yourself a stronger bacteria in the future that can do more damage. Dental abscess rarely go away without some kind of eventual medical intervention. GOOD LUCK and please let us know how you do.
Avatar n tn I went to a dentist when the pain was excrutiating and was told that I had a big Abscess! I was give antibiotics to treat the infection and told to come back a week later! but after a few days the pain was so bad, and no sleep and ice packs against cheek were still not reliveing it that I had to go back! The dentist saw i still had some swelling but proceeded to adminster anescetic and had to do this three times as i could still feel the pain and then removed my tooth!
Avatar n tn PLEASE consider having the tooth doctored. An abscessed tooth is so minor, don't consider putting your dog to sleep over something like this!
Avatar m tn A tooth becoming loose after a root canal is not normal, and indicates a failure to diagnose or treat correctly. Three possible causes: 1) Major infection prior to the root canal around the tooth that ate away all the supporting bone. If this is the case, a root canal should never have been done. 2) Does it feel like you hit that tooth first or harder when you bite down or slide your teeth together right or left?
619150 tn?1247051874 how much damage can I have from having this infection for so long? I have had both knees replaced, a cataract surgery in one eye and scheduled for cataract surgery for the other eye next week. I am also looking at a hip replacement in the near future. I am concerned about one of my knees as the doc said the infection could settle there and I have been experiencing pain. I am also concerned if I should have the cataract surgery as I did experience a lot of swelling with the last surgery.
554628 tn?1362781519 i tried that and orijel nothing works not even tylenol my oncall ob told me it would be ok to take motrin but doesn't work either not thing is working i'm about to go to er to get checked for an abscess tooth and have it drained that's what my ob told me to do if swelling occured until i could get into the dentist
Avatar f tn The doctor did say he would start me on penicillan for 3 days before the root canal. Is it better to just pull the tooth? Is there less chance of the infection traveling? Thanks for any advice.
