Avatar f tn Also, not taking care of an abscess tooth and the infection going into your blood stream in severe cases can cause death.
Avatar n tn I have a severe abscess tooth on the lower left side of my mouth. I have been to the ER and the dentist. I'm on antibiotics (clindamycin) 600mg ibuprofen and hydrocodone for pain. My dentist scheduled me an appointment to have the tooth pulled next Friday but since taking the antibiotics the whole left side of my face is extremely swollen my lips are severely swollen to the point I can't eat can barely drink and can't sleep.
Avatar f tn If you don't have a problem with aspirin, you could try dissolving some baby aspirin on your tooth and the surrounding area. Or oil of cloves to help numb it. But I am not a doctor, so you really should find someone to call. Your local pharmacist may be helpful. They have a lot of training. Good luck. I hope you feel better soon.
Avatar f tn make sure your razor is clean. I also use witch hazel under my arms after I shave before I put on deoderant. If you need relief, use a hot towel to bring it to a head. Then burn tha tip of a safety pin or a needle and stick it in that middle. You will need assistance because it hurts like hell. Then SQUEEEEEEEEZE it til you can't squeeze it anymore.
Avatar f tn Most people obtain much relief once a root canal is started. Of course if the tooth is fractured beyond repair, then extraction may be recommended. You did not mention what his plans were for you. I would most definitely contact him and inform him of your present situation, especially with the weekend approaching so you are not in this same situation again seeking help on a weekend.
Avatar f tn the pain and risk of using again is not worth the small amt of relief the pills may give u for the tooth pain..
Avatar n tn The healing process seems to be going fine, however, I'm concerned because the dentist didn't prescribe me with any antibiotics. I thought this was standard procedure when you get a tooth extracted because of an abscess? I'm concerned that he didn't clean out the wound and the abscessed area well enough and that I don't have any antibiotics to ensure that I don't get an infection. What are the symptoms of an infection from where a tooth was extracted?
Avatar f tn After a panoramic radiograph he told me my upper left molar (tooth 15) needed to be removed as it had an abscess forming at the root. He convinced me to have bone grafting done at the same time in the event I wanted to proceed with an implant down the line. This was done on a Friday. By Monday the pain was still so severe I called the office and was told I should give it another day or 2 and if there was no improvement they would see me the next day, which is today.
Avatar n tn So we brought her in again and the doctor found an abscess in her mouth and the tooth that hurt her in August was a bit grey. We went right to the dentist and he said the nerve was dead, she needed a root canal. Her jaw pain is almost gone but she is still extremely fatigued, and has shortness of breath even when doing stairs. She had bloodwork done and her c-reactive protein is elevated. She had an EKG and it showed left atrium enlarged. We are waiting to get in to see the cardiologist.
Avatar n tn Put out an all assault effort on my sinuses and found some relief off and on. Went on a road trip and slowly it got worse and by the time we hit altitude over 4000 ft it got almost unbearable. It almost felt like labor pains of the face. It would come on sudden, and leave sudden. My mouth would feel as though it was on fire all around on that side and on that side of my tongue. We left the high altitude, highest of 10,000 ft. When we got below 4000 i felt some relief.
Avatar f tn I had a tooth extracted two weeks ago, following a painful abscess. Antibiotics cleared up the infection but my dentist decided the tooth should be removed. It was a bottom tooth, second from the last one at the back. It has been healing up very well and generally I have no pain. However, I've noticed that when I exercise (I go to Zumba) I sometimes get a throbbing from where the tooth used to be and wondered if this is normal?
Avatar f tn It is very painful and my lip is trembling. I'm pretty sure there is also an abcess below the tooth. The tooth is permanent. It is also loose. I can see that there is black on it. If I put any pressure, it hurts a lot.

1839466 tn?1432596684 Last week, i ended up having my first encounter with a abscess tooth. It was and has been horrible. Since then, I have been put on Advil, Hydrocodon-acetanino, and Clindamycin. I've also seen my dentist who started a root canal on the tooth but just drilled a whole, did some drainage, not all, and left a sponge in it so it can fully drain. I'm supposed to go back next week to complete the full root canal.

Avatar n tn HI, Repeated episodes raise the possibility of chronic infection and possibly a tooth abscess. You should consult a dentist for an evaluation. Antibiotics and anti-inflammatory agents will help tide over the problem. Application of ice packs will also help. It is best to defer tooth extraction till after the delivery of the baby. Hope this helps. The answer is based on information provided. Exact advice is not possible without a proper examination and investigations.
Avatar n tn Hence it could be Trigeminal neuralgia, abscess in tooth, exposed root canal, internal ear infection, maxillary sinusitis, TMJ, migraine, herpes (recurrent) without rash or fibromyalgia localized to face. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Do consult your doctor. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar n tn I have had relief and only have slight pain now. I have made it a point to use my waterpik every night since I started the antibiotics with special attention to this area. My questions are...how long should I continue the antibiotics?, this being my sixth night and still having slight pain....and, once it is cleared up, should I still go in for a deep cleaning or only a cleaning? Seems like the cipro is working well, but is it a good antibiotic for this type of infection?...
Avatar n tn I had an abscessed tooth removed after being on antibiotics for one week, my jaw was a bit swollen before he removed the tooth the swelling had not gone down with the antibiotics. There was an awful smell which he said was the abscess. I am taking amoxcillin at the moment and it now 8 days since the extraction but my jaw is still swollen the same as it was before the extraction, is this normal should the swelling be going down by now, it is not really painful.
Avatar m tn May 15 I developed an abscess. They can't get me in to get the 2 teeth pulled until June 25th. The next day, my cheek was the size of a baseball and the meds weren't helping. I went to th ER. Dr numbed it, cut a slit in it, gave me dilaudid &zophran, &sent me home with vicodin. RELIEF! June 3 it was back. I went to the dentist June 5. He couldn't see me. They called in 825mg amoxicillin 2x a day &the weakest dose of vicodin.
Avatar n tn He decided on root canal and called the endodontist (appt is for Thursday). The dentist showed me the film and although the tooth root looks okay (no black area of abscess), there is a "white ring shadow" above the tooth root. He said that is indicative of a sinus problem. He asked if I had a cold or sinus infection but I haven't had any cold or nasal drip for years.
Avatar n tn I am currently 6 months pregnant and I have been putting off dental work for the entire six months... I am concerned the tooth I have been ignoring is becoming abcessed (?spelling)... I am also worried about waiting till after the baby is born because I plan on breastfeeding... I am concerned about both the affects this could have on the baby and also the possible problems I could have if I ignore this tooth problem any longer... Please help me!
Avatar f tn If I didn't know better, I would think there was a sliver of bone growing out of my tooth root and digging into my gum. Ambesol gives me some relief, as does pulling my lip away from the gum so that there is nothing touching it. I'm -really- hoping this isn't some weird absess as it would probably take me about 2 months to get to see a dentist where I live. Anyone have any idea what this is?
Avatar n tn I have an abscessed tooth and its in my gums on bottom, been on antibiotics, painkiller for five days, swollen and big lump on jaw. Dentist wont lance it because it still hasn't come up to a head yet. Should I go to ER, or just give it more time?
