Common Questions and Answers about Abscess tooth medicine

abscess

Avatar n tn I have a severe abscess tooth on the lower left side of my mouth. I have been to the ER and the dentist. I'm on antibiotics (clindamycin) 600mg ibuprofen and hydrocodone for pain. My dentist scheduled me an appointment to have the tooth pulled next Friday but since taking the antibiotics the whole left side of my face is extremely swollen my lips are severely swollen to the point I can't eat can barely drink and can't sleep.
Avatar n tn I am sure he will do everything he can to save the tooth. I am in your situation with broken teeth, infection and pain medicine. Its not fun. I would say from experience until the infection is cleared up some they may not attempt any procedures.... it just depends on how infected the tooth is... good luck! I hope everything goes well for you...
Avatar n tn I am worried I have a dental infection spreading from neglected dental work, that was complicated by a mis-diagnosis. Sorry for dragging this on, and on. Does a tooth abscess ever not show up on a X-ray? Possibly draining out before X-ray is taken? draining into roof of mouth or sinus?
Avatar f tn I have been dealing with an abscess tooth for many years. I go to the dentist and they give me medicine and it will clear up. They have recommended that I go to an oral surgeon yet I continue to put it off. Today I experienced the taste and smell of the infection and can feel a little pain in me throat and am starting to worry. Is there anything that I can do to ensure that the infection doesn't spread until I get into the dentist or should I go to the emergency room?
1462810 tn?1327364049 just try it- a slice of raw garlic wrapped in a bit of gauze placed between the lip and gum over a tooth abscess, within 45 minutes the pain will be gone, with repeated application so will the infection. Your dentist will NEVER tell you about that one. If you want your eyes opened, visit www.naturalnews.com . Avatar f tn I have now started with another headache on the other side of my head and have an odd round place on that cheek. Everything originally began on the right side of my face by the way. When I look inside my I had an abscess tooth 2 weeks ago, the dentist put me on an atibiotic (Z-pak)and then I went back to him to begin a root canal. He couldnt complete & sent me to an endodontist the same day.
Avatar n tn I have an abscess that has gotten progressively worse despite two shots of antibotics and one day of clindamycin and one day of amoxacilin. The swelling and pain is getting worse. Two shots of deadening medicine would not deaden the nerve, so my dentist postponed the root canal. Should I go to the emergency room for an evaluation?
Avatar m tn This one is easy relax, I think in Germany they have socialized medicine. The tooth has had a root canal so its not going to cause you any pain. You can get from a drug store a temporary filling kit and try to make a ball place it in the opening and bite down on the material. Make sure you dry the area well before trying to place the temp filling.
Avatar f tn I developed an abscess in my lower left molar which hurt quite a bit. It was on a tooth than previously had a root canal performed on it. I was put on antibiotics, but the abscess moved into my cheek and my face became huge. My Endo. was unable to drain the abscess because of where it was located (under my cheek muscle), but went ahead and did the re-do root canal anyway after I was on antibiotics for four days.
Avatar n tn I am currently 6 months pregnant and I have been putting off dental work for the entire six months... I am concerned the tooth I have been ignoring is becoming abcessed (?spelling)... I am also worried about waiting till after the baby is born because I plan on breastfeeding... I am concerned about both the affects this could have on the baby and also the possible problems I could have if I ignore this tooth problem any longer... Please help me!

Avatar n tn SEVERE pain running down my neck and behind my ear. I went to the dentist 2 wks ago and was told I have an abscess. I was given an antibiotic and 2 days worth of Vicodin. I have taken all 10 days of my medicine, the swelling has gone down some...I still have a large hard lump along my jaw. The pain is still very intense. I am taking reg. strenght tylenol for pain. It does not really help. My dentist can not do a RC until mid Jan.
Avatar n tn The dentist reopened the healing spot and put in medicine for a dry socket although I did NOT have a dry socket. This did nothing to help. The tooth had a slight bulb on the end of the root and was not smooth, I was told and shown the xray, Was told to give it a little more time. I then went back again 4 days later. The Dentist then performed a test to determin if I need a root canal on the teeth on either side of the removed tooth.
Avatar f tn I've always been a worry wart, but never like this. The dentist didn't mention an abscess, just a tooth infection. Are they the same thing??? It's really weird, bc I don't have pain or swelling in that area.
1806721 tn?1554337007 I would strongly advise you to see a dentist, if tooth is indeed bothering you. Abscess if it develops further may indeed cause fever. The rule of thumb for hot and cold: hot = abscess, cold = recession/sensitive tooth.
Avatar f tn I can't say if in my case, the two suspected heart attacks were related to the tooth abscess or not. Unfortunately, I can't take Amoxycillin or other antibiotics. Keflex was the only choice, but I was afraid of taking that too. The next time this happens, I will look at alternative treatments such as Ayurvedic medicine. I tried putting garlic on it. It helped and brought the infection down. I felt very ill with that infection, weak and seriously run down.
4328950 tn?1352876936 Hello, There are many causes of bad odour from the mouth like gum disease, halitosis, tooth decay, abscess etc. Poorly fitting dental appliances, yeast infections of the mouth, and dental caries are few other common causes. Respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia or bronchitis, chronic sinus infections, postnasal drip, diabetes, acid reflux and liver or kidney problems are few other causes of bad breath.
Avatar n tn By the way, some weeks ago I found confirmation to this suspicion when I found that the tooth was indeed linked to the nose in Chinese medicine - click on tooth No. 12 and see for yourself here: http://naturaldentistry.us/holistic-dentistry/meridian-tooth-chart-from-encinitas-dentist/ ). About a year ago, I had an apicoectomy to have the abscess removed (choosing it as an alternative to extraction with the aim of keeping the tooth at whatever cost).
Avatar f tn Infections spread rapidly in the mouth!!! Do you mean an abscess or a tumor. Abscess if you don't know is usually an infection under the tooth in the roots. I know it can be expensive but you shouldn't be in this discomfort! They use different antibiotics for different infections. I do wonder why you didn't go back before this! Dental pain can be so bad. Take care.
Avatar f tn Pain in the side of face could be due to injury to a nerve or pinched nerve, an infection or a trauma. Hence it could be Trigeminal neuralgia, abscess in tooth, exposed root canal, internal ear infection, maxillary sinusitis, TMJ, migraine, herpes (recurrent) without rash or fibromyalgia localized to face. Please consult your doctor regarding this immediately. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.

Avatar f tn I gave a RCT treatment to my patient who has chronic periapical abscess at lower right 6 but no sinus and swelling was present in her mouth. But I saw that abscess in intra-oral periapical view. While I was treating her tooth, everything was alright. And then,2days after treating RCT, she suffered a slight pain and swelling at submandibular region.I forgot something to explain that I saw a root fracture line in X-ray but that tooth was not mobile.
Avatar m tn About 2 months ago I was picking my gumbs with a tooth pick which Im assuming was dirty. The following day my gumbs were irritated and my cheek got swollen.I went to a Walgreens clinic (being that Im a college student with no insurance or $) They gave me some anti-biotics and some steroids to bring down the swelling. After taking some pills the swelling went down and so did the irritation. However I did not finish taking the rest of the medicine the way I was told to do.

Avatar f tn I had an abcess in my gum deep by the bone line just under my nose on (my left) canine tooth. It was deep to where it took 4 days to come to a head on the outer gum area. This swelled immensely causing my lip to bulge, left eye swelling, cheek was massive. It disappeared after2 weeks of amoxicillin ibuprofen and naproxen. Everything was fine for a few weeks now i have severe pain under my nose and in my cheek bone area. When i press down it hurts worse.
