Avatar n tn I AM WONDERING IF I LET THE TOOTH GO FOR TOO LONG AND CAUSED AN INFECTION THAT MAY HAVE SPREAD TO HER BRAIN CAUSING HER TO LEAVE AND NOT COME BACK.
Avatar n tn I know the infection will not totally subside until I have the tooth removed, but I'm just wondering how long before the swelling might subside. Also, what would happen if the abscess were to burst? I know my dentist mentioned that if it got worse to report to an ER...but what did he mean by "worse"?
Avatar n tn How does the Dr drain an abscess? Is there an incision? How long does it take to drain? How long does it take to Heal? How long should it take for the infection to heal? Thanks.
Avatar n tn I have a severe abscess tooth on the lower left side of my mouth. I have been to the ER and the dentist. I'm on antibiotics (clindamycin) 600mg ibuprofen and hydrocodone for pain. My dentist scheduled me an appointment to have the tooth pulled next Friday but since taking the antibiotics the whole left side of my face is extremely swollen my lips are severely swollen to the point I can't eat can barely drink and can't sleep.
Avatar f tn I had a tooth pulled out on the 19/05/15, this tooth had a abscess for around 12 - 13 years, other dentists seemed very reluctant to pull the tooth. What I wanted to ask is, how long should it take before the swelling goes down or will it even go down with it being a very old abscess? I was thinking it may just take time because I think it affected the area either side of it as well. The dentist didn't give me any antibiotics but I'm assuming that's because she pulled the tooth out.

Avatar m tn Hi i started with really bad tooth pain and went to the emergency dentist who said its infected and got an abscess. They give me amoxicillin 500mg i started them yesterday teatime then last night my face started to swell up on the right side where the bad tooth is never had this before. Now i look like an hamster what i want to know is how long will it take for the tablets to work i have taken 4 so far. Also most of the pain as gone but still really soar.
Avatar m tn I am a little worried because the botched filling (meant to be a crown) has signs on the tooth that this was the cause of the abscess and my cheek is still very large ( a little more embarassing presenting in public than anything) as there is no pain. The cheek has changed shape but is still large and moved down towards my jaw instead of up near my eye. How long does the abscess take to drain? as the dentist was looking for drainage that never came.
Avatar n tn hi i recently got an abscess in my tooth and it began to swell alot and was very painfull i went to the dentist and he pierced and drained it a little then put me on amoxicillin for 5 days its only my second day on the anti - biotics but the swelling is starting to become realy hard is this normal until the anti-biotics take effect? or should i be worried?
Avatar n tn I have had the same abscess over my bad tooth and pop it like a pimple 2 or 3 times a day. I went to the dentist 4 yrs ago and i needed a rootcanal back then. The cost is ridiculous. All my dental work was over $5,000. I can imagine how much it is now 4 yrs later. I don't have any medical insurance and can't even get approved for the monthly payment plan.. I have had this for almost a year now.
Avatar m tn by the time i got to the er the doctor told me that my abscess was 1 inch by 3/8 of an inch big. that is pretty large for an abscess. with something like this the longer you put it off the worst it will get. hope you feel better soon.
Avatar f tn 6) and the doctors ruled out strep and mono once again and put him on the same medication regimen. Could his symptoms possibly stem from a tooth abscess?? If not a tooth abscess what else do you think could be causing his symptoms? Thank you in advance for your response.
Avatar f tn The only possible reason for this abscess that I can think of is that about a year ago, my front tooth got the corner chipped off. Please respond asap... I am a worrier!! This discussion is related to dental abscess.
Avatar f tn Just recently some pus drained from the tooth. He has also had a low grade fever. I am wondering if a side effect from a long term abscessed tooth can be blood in his semen. A doctor put him on Amoxicillin 1500mg every 8 hours for 6 doses then 500mg every 8 hours for 14 days. Is this proper treatment?

Avatar f tn yes having an abscess for a long period of time can react differently from person to person. the thing i would worry the most about would be having the infection spread to the jawbone. letting dental problems go on for years can cause serious health issues.
Avatar n tn I'v just noticed a big abscess above my tooth, i already know i need root canal treatment for the tooth but my dentist can't take me for another week. Is it safe to wait that long without anti-biotics or treatment?
Avatar f tn The last time I had a lower right molar re-root canaled for $1,492,00 (the first on it having been 2 yrs prior) and re-crowned the tooth only lasted 8 months then it was abscessed again which resulted in an extraction. I guess my question is as long as it is draining and I am keeping it clean how dangerous is this to my overall health. I do not want to have it extracted until absolutely necessary.
1399266 tn?1280640704 It is a tough situation. Antibiotics are for bacterial infections so unless the abscess is a secondary diagnosis to a bacterial infection, the antibiotics won't make it go away. On the other hand, if she reacts to anesthesia, putting her under to pull the tooth would be a problem. I would suggest further discussion with your vet so that fully understand the risks and benefits of both courses of action.
Avatar f tn ) Afterwards, pressure sensitivity improved but gum swelled on the linqual side. Dentist treated with Cavitron and said tooth would need to be extracted if swelling continued. Four days ago, had tooth 14 prepped for crown. All okay first day, then cheek and jaw started swelling and have not improved. No pain in tooth 14. Made an independent appt with Oral Surgeon but can't get in for three weeks. Any ideas/suggestions? And, why would tooth 14 exacerbate 29? Or, is it a separate problem?
Avatar f tn I had a root canal done on tooth #29 about ten years ago after an injury to the tooth. All seemed well until I noticed a swelling under this tooth a few weeks ago that hurt when pressed. I called the dentist and was told I had an abscess. She prescribed me 150mg Clindamycin over ten days for the infection and referred me to an endodontist. The endodontist retreated the root canal a couple weeks later. A few hours after the retreated root canal became horribly painful and I noticed some swelling.
Avatar m tn I had an LVI princess crown on my tooth behind the extracted tooth which was pulled off during my extraction. Dentist put my crown back on then said due to the abscess the tooth should drain. My question is twofold after 2 weeks i(btw the 'clot' is in place over the hole') should my lips and jaw be swollen and should my LVI crown be missisfitting? LVI uses light to bond crowns - this dentist used a glue to re-bond my crown I am concerned that I may have an infection with the glue they used.
