Avatar m tn i live in pain for the past 28 years of my life... Two days ago a tooth that has been cracked for about 6 months developed an abscess.. i got the routine pain along with a bit of swelling, however no bubble in the gum line.. I woke up yesterday with a bit of swelling in the cheek, and put myself on amoxicillin which i have plenty left from previous incidents.. Normally when i have an abscess, i'll switch between amoxicillin and penicillin to keep my body from adapting to either type of med.

Avatar m tn To relate a similar story; I had a bad tooth ache and have been told all my life that dentists are far too expensive to go to without insurance to pay for them. The tooth pain got so bad I had no choice. After an exame, dental x-rays, pulling a tooth, and ect... The total bill was $100.00 and I was expecting $5,000.00. So, ask the dentist how much he will charge for his services.
Avatar m tn Hello, A dental examination is necessary for correct diagnosis and management of your condition. A tooth abscess is usually a complication of tooth decay. Prompt treatment can save the tooth and a root canal may be recommended in an attempt to save the tooth. Untreated abscesses may get worse and can lead to life-threatening complications.

Avatar n tn I had an abscessed tooth removed after being on antibiotics for one week, my jaw was a bit swollen before he removed the tooth the swelling had not gone down with the antibiotics. There was an awful smell which he said was the abscess. I am taking amoxcillin at the moment and it now 8 days since the extraction but my jaw is still swollen the same as it was before the extraction, is this normal should the swelling be going down by now, it is not really painful.
Avatar n tn I am 24 and have never in my life had a cavity or any other dental problems including any need for braces. I do still have 4 baby teeth that never had anything behind them and the tooth that is giving me some pain might be one of the 4. I have a small sore bump in the gum of my right lower canine. The pain is not much and can only be felt at times and is sore to the touch. The slight swelling is a big concern. What could this be and what can I do for it?
Avatar n tn PLEASE consider having the tooth doctored. An abscessed tooth is so minor, don't consider putting your dog to sleep over something like this!
Avatar m tn I began IV antibiotics, the first of many bags. The next night I finally had my surgery. They removed 2 teeth, my lower right wisdom tooth, and the molar in front of it, and drained my cheek. When I awoke I was on a breathing tube due o my swelling and had 2 penrose drains sewn into my mouth. I remained on the tube another day and a half, and in the ICU another 3 days total.

Avatar n tn My dentist is unsure if I have an abscess in one of my molar teeth. The tooth has been chipped off for years and while it doesn't look normal but it causes me no trouble either. I read where a dental abscess has symptoms like--sensitivity to hot and cold foods, pain, sinus infections, facial swelling, etc.. I have none of these symptoms but the dentist still wants to extract the tooth. I do not want to.
