abscess

Avatar m tn I have a large swollen/painful abscess in my lower right facial cheek area. i have received antitbiotics for the infection. Do i need to have it drained? If so what type of Doctor/Dentist do you recommend?
Avatar n tn Since it is on the side of your dog's face, it could be related to the a tooth root abscess. Allow your vet to further investigate. Your vet can perform a fine needle aspirate or other biopsy, or lance the lesion if it is an abscess.
Avatar f tn My 18 yr old cat was diagnosed with a tooth abscess 2 wks ago and was put on antibiotics. They swelling has gotten better and then worse over the 2 wk period. Initially it was confined to the left cheek area then sublingual area on the left and now the swelling is in both of his cheeks. The vet is coming to check him again later tonight. In past the vet has told me that his oral tissues are blanched. I am wondering what could be the cause of the swelling. Is it possibly anemia?

Avatar n tn I had a root canal un my upper back tooth on Friday. I woke up Saturday with a facial droop, a kanka sore and swelling from my eye to my jaw bone. I knew I had an abscess when they started. My face hurts to the touch and the kanka hurts as well. I look like a chipmunk. I am on antibiotics. When can I expect the swelling to go down? When will it stop hurting? Does anyone know why this happened. It was a repair of an old root canal done 25 years ago.

Avatar f tn I went to the dentist for significant facial swelling, and was diagnosed with the abscess. The swelling has gone down, however I now have a pus pocket on my gum above my molars. It's only painful when I touch it, but I can see the swelling under my cheek when I smile. Since I'm already on Amoxicillin, can I pop the abscess using a sterilized needle? It's Friday night, and the dentist won't be in until Monday...PLEASE HELP!!
Avatar f tn I do have some facial swelling but it seems to be going down since the abscess opened up. I will watch out for a fever but I haven't gotten any additional symptoms. Thank for the advice!
Avatar n tn 5, I have decreased facial sensation in the area of tooth 20 (the affected tooth), and I still have very slight facial swelling with a swelling at the root area of tooth 20 which I can feel with my tongue. I am happy to report that it is not especially painful but I have continued to take ibuprofen every 6 hours along with the penicillin. I know that I have to contact my dentist but I am curious to know how often this happens? This is my fifth root canal and this is my first bad experience.
Avatar f tn It is not hard and not terribly sensitive today. What could have happened to cause this swelling and do you think the abscess has not been completely resolved? I do have a follow up in 3 days, but am very anxious about what may have happened, especially since the swelling goes below my jaw and the tooth worked was an upper one...

Avatar n tn My dentist is unsure if I have an abscess in one of my molar teeth. The tooth has been chipped off for years and while it doesn't look normal but it causes me no trouble either. I read where a dental abscess has symptoms like--sensitivity to hot and cold foods, pain, sinus infections, facial swelling, etc.. I have none of these symptoms but the dentist still wants to extract the tooth. I do not want to.
619150 tn?1247051874 how much damage can I have from having this infection for so long? I have had both knees replaced, a cataract surgery in one eye and scheduled for cataract surgery for the other eye next week. I am also looking at a hip replacement in the near future. I am concerned about one of my knees as the doc said the infection could settle there and I have been experiencing pain. I am also concerned if I should have the cataract surgery as I did experience a lot of swelling with the last surgery.

660300 tn?1224793961 Goodness it sounds like you've had a tough time, i didn't have any bad facial swelling and didn't need stitches thank goodness. My chin, lip, teeth and gums are still causing me problems but there has definitely been noticeable improvement, most of which in my front teeth/gum and one small part of my bottom lip. Every day is different though, some days are worse than others, some days my teeth really hurt and I find eating difficult.
745568 tn?1232853401 I actually thought I was getting late wisdom teeth (I have the roots and they have never come in). Thinking it was a tooth abscess I took the prescribed antibiotic and it did nothing. Instead it moved from my right jaw into my right ear. The glands on that side are visibly swollen. This is the 3rd week this is happening. My face is painful to touch and I've been sitting in a sweltering house because the moment the AC touches my right ear it explodes into pain.
Avatar m tn ) However last time it happened (4 months ago) i noticed a little bit of facial swelling before the pain finally went away. 5 days ago i started experiencing much more acute throbbing pain (have not really slept the last 3 nights), and this morning i noticed pronounced facial swelling above where the root canal was done. Now it is 10pm at night, and it is by far the worst it has ever been.
Avatar n tn maybe its just allergies or because of infected sinuses my allergies are spiking right now, so i took one of my 180mg Allegra... i dont have any facial swelling that i can tell... but i will keep an eye on that. just writing to let everyone knows the progress incase anyone else goes through this! ill post again later if theres any change.
Avatar n tn I am not so sure this is the case as my syptoms keep travelling down the right side of my body. They first began as headaches. Over the last year the I have experienced, facial numbness, droopy eye, neck pain, shooting pain below my shoulder blade and numbness in my arm & fingers (all on the right side of my body). The most recent pain has been in my right leg. I have a shooting pain that travels down my thigh to my calves and into my toes.
Avatar n tn I did have a tooth abcess a few months after the surgery and had significant swelling from that. He is saying that it could be from the tooth abcess which was in the back of my mouth. What do you think? Will it go away? He said to come back in 6 mo.
1307768 tn?1273367303 i'm so scared i have an abscess that i dont know about, but i dont see any facial swelling. hoping for the best..what could possibly/most likely be wrong? and what can be done about it?
Avatar n tn Hello, This persistent abscess that does not get cleared with antibiotics is called Parulis as this elevated nodule is actually an opening of fistulous tract from some chronic abscess either in association with tooth (periapical abscess) or gum abscess or could be sinus in your case. As I can not do physical exam hence can not say for sure about the origin of the abscess. It needs x-ray and second opinion of a dentist who can examine.
Avatar f tn I purchased the stallion last yr. and was informed he had suffered tooth (molar) abscess/s and as a result had at least one top left molar removed by a veternarian when he was younger. It's been at least 2 yrs. since the extraction. However, the left side bridge of his nose is still swollen or appears to have a rather large bump that I was told was there since the extraction. Sometimes it swells even bigger and other times subsides; but, never goes away.
Avatar n tn There is so much risk of blood infection and other complications that it isn't even worth leaving in, especially if your dog has already developed a facial abscess. Good luck!
