Common Questions and Answers about Abscess tooth effects

abscess

Avatar f tn I've had a tooth abscess since the beginning of this year sometime. I went to the ER because my jaw had become so swollen that it was completely ridiculous. They gave me penicillin which I took (28 pills, 3 times a day with food). When I finished that bottle I realized that there was still a sort of blister on my gum even though it was much smaller than it used to be.
Avatar f tn Hi Welcome to the MedHelp forum! Usually tooth infection takes a very long time and has to spread to neighboring gum area to spread to blood vessels and cause infection. However this can be painful, can cause exposed roots and cause persistent infection. Hence consult a dentist immediately. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar n tn I've had an abscess on my gum area that started in my tooth for about a week. I've been on antibiotics (clindamycin 150 MG) for 5 days with painkillers. I've been swollen the entire time and have knot on my jaw. The dentist wont lance it because it hasn't come to a head yet. So, do I go to urgent care, or wait it out to see if it will ever come to a head? Thanks!
Avatar n tn I had an abscessed tooth removed after being on antibiotics for one week, my jaw was a bit swollen before he removed the tooth the swelling had not gone down with the antibiotics. There was an awful smell which he said was the abscess. I am taking amoxcillin at the moment and it now 8 days since the extraction but my jaw is still swollen the same as it was before the extraction, is this normal should the swelling be going down by now, it is not really painful.
Avatar n tn Hi, Any bacterial infection can lead to collection of pus in the tooth can cause tooth abscess. A tooth infection should be treated appropriately to prevent spread of infection. The usually preferred antibiotics are amoxicillin, clindamycin, penicillins and metrogyl.Azithromycin may raise serum methadone levels and/or increase the effects of methadone. It is advisable to contact a local health care provider. Do write to us again. Best luck and regards!
Avatar f tn Omnicef can be used too if you're concerned about the clindamycin's side effects. Omnicef, like all other antibiotics, can have similar side effects since it kills both good and bad bacteria though.
Avatar n tn i have a broken tooth with intense pain. i have a swollen face and lip on the left side of my face. i went to the er yesterday morning and they gave me clindamycin hcl 150 mg and ibuprofen 800 mg along with oxycodone apap5-325mg.
Avatar n tn But then after a few months I had extremely severe pain form between the tooth and my maxillary sinus on that side, and then pain back to my jaw, and below my jaw down my neck with swollen lymph nodes. Plus when I bite down that tooth and only that tooth hurts. Well, the dentist took new bite wing X-rays and didn't see an abscess or anything and gave me Amoxil which completely elminated the severe pain in 5 days...
Avatar f tn I've always been a worry wart, but never like this. The dentist didn't mention an abscess, just a tooth infection. Are they the same thing??? It's really weird, bc I don't have pain or swelling in that area.
Avatar m tn He's also extremely hungry and thirsty. I've read that all of these are possible phenobarbital side effects. How long do these usually last before the dog gets used to the medication? I'm hoping that these are not signs that something else is wrong, though I am aware of the possibilities.
Avatar f tn I can't say if in my case, the two suspected heart attacks were related to the tooth abscess or not. Unfortunately, I can't take Amoxycillin or other antibiotics. Keflex was the only choice, but I was afraid of taking that too. The next time this happens, I will look at alternative treatments such as Ayurvedic medicine. I tried putting garlic on it. It helped and brought the infection down. I felt very ill with that infection, weak and seriously run down.
Avatar n tn I'm a 48 year old in good health with regular dental visits and good brushing habits. A molar (upper, 2nd from back of mouth) gave me some pain this weekend while drinking coffee. I saw my dentist this morning and he prescribed a course of penicillin. There was no obvious outward signs of infection and an x-ray barely showed decay or abscess and just at the tip. This molar has amalgam fillings. I'm scheduled for a cleaning and X-rays in November.
Avatar n tn The surgeon showed me photos of the abscess and said it was a large one. The tooth was fine for about 6 months as well as the nasal pain. But now there is once again a swelling and the site of the swelling feels uncomfortable. Moreover, I have been feeling easy fatigue and little ability to concentrate or focus effort. I researched the material the surgeon used for the apicoectomy (MTA for retrograde root filling) and found that it contains small amounts of arsenic in it.
Avatar f tn The vet has done one urine cortisol test which showed increased levels of cortisol but there was a tiny increase in urine concentration though still dilute. There was a tooth root abscess that was also being treated at the time of the test so the vet wants to do the test in a couple more weeks since the infection could cause the increase in urine cortisol.

Avatar f tn Of course I still had days where anxiety would nag away at me, but I was starting to reach our to friends, be more social then I'd been able to be in months and start enjoying life again. I've been taking 50mg of zoloft for 6 weeks now. The first 2 weeks were filled with side effects from increasing the dosage, but I expected them and handled them with the help of ativan. Since then I've needed to take .5mg of ativan once a week or even every other week.
Avatar f tn I developed a tooth abscess, my mom didn't do anything about it and it ended up staying in my mouth for about 5 or 6 years. By the time the tooth was finally extracted in October 2011, the toxicity of the abscess deteriorated away at my jaw bone. The tooth in question was a molar, second from the very back of the bottom of my mouth. The tooth above it started to over-erupt, but has been stopped by the very back molar. So now two top molars are resting on one molar.
Avatar f tn Sounds like an abscess tooth. Are your gums swollen or your cheeks puffed out like a chipmunk? You should go to the dentist. Being pregnant isn't so great on teeth. Take extra care of them.
Avatar f tn We have a Westie that (rescue, don't know whole history) we had one tooth removed because of an abscess. This was about a year ago, so going from memory, I don't recall any side effects other than a "bandaid" over the site of his IV.
Avatar f tn I take Sprintec now for birth control, but have been on pills for 5 years without issue. I was given Penicillin for a tooth abscess. Penicillin is not listed in my Sprintec pamphlet for possible interactions, and neither the dr nor the pharmacist mentioned any possible interactions (bottle doesn't say anything either). I have been taking the antibiotics for 4 days and have had multiple possible "oops" occasions before this possible predicament was mentioned to me by a friend.
Avatar f tn sounds like you are feeling effects of Paresthesia ... if they pulled teeth from the bottom, your mandubular teeth are very close to the nerve, it is possible that he could have caused some nerve damage.... the numb feeling should go away in a few weeks....
Avatar n tn We took my dog to the vet on Tuesday due to having bloody noses. They did an exam and found out she has an abscess tooth. They belive that is why she was having the bloody noses. She has been eating and drinking normal. They said the tooth must come out. But the infection has to clear before they can remove it. The vet put her on an antibiotic. She couldn't barely walk the next day. We called the vet that morning.
