Common Questions and Answers about Abscess tooth bone

abscess

Avatar m tn I have fairly white healthy teeth, but I have an abscess behind my tooth, how can I get rid of it, or sooth the pain.
Avatar n tn I went to my regular dentist on 1/13/06 and xrays showed a large abscess in tooth #10, as well as a smaller abscess in tooth #20. On 1/17/06 I had a RCT done on tooth #10, as well as an incision in the roof of my mouth behind that tooth to help extract the infection. On 1/19/06, I had a RCT done on tooth #20, with one 0.05mm post placed. I have been on Antibiotics since 1/13/06, taking Penicillin VK 500mg QID, so I'm now on my Eighth day of antibiotics.
Avatar f tn I would say you have an abscess, it could be soft tissue(only gums) or hard tissue ( inside the bone, or tooth) , closer examination is advised. x-rays of the upper and lowers on the same side is advised. It is possible to have referred pain from top to bottom or vice versa.. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn I arrive at the office, get an x-ray, dentist looks at my tooth and says I have an abscess and it seemed to have been there for quite some time already. She proceeds do drain it, sends me home on antibiotics and ibuprofen, and tells me to come back on Friday to extract the tooth. My headache only got worse, and I felt pain from behind my nose and eye all the way back to the neck, all on the left side. It "stings" when I inhale deeply, so I imagined it's the sinus cavities.
Avatar m tn If untreated in the long term, gumboils can cause tooth and even bone loss, as the infection dissolves the bone surrounding the root of the tooth.cure:Standard treatment of a tooth abscess is to drain pus and then disinfect and fill tooth, or remove tip of root (an apicectomy) if it cannot be disinfected, or take the tooth out. Specific remedies to be taken every hour for up to 10 doses while waiting for dental treatment a.. Copious saliva, spongy gums Mercurius 30c b..
Avatar f tn I have mod-advanced periodontal disease and developed a PA abscess and cyst in 7 months which caused severe pain and swelling that required extraction. How did it come about? Is it from dental decay combined with periodontal disease? It was tooth 26 with over 7 mm gum pocket and 50% mobility.. Just wondering if I could have saved it earlier with maybe a root canal? Hope to hear from some expert.
Avatar f tn How long does it take for a cavity to develop a periapical abscess? When is the tooth too far gone to save it? Hope to hear from an expert.
Avatar n tn An old root canal had developed an abscess. The tooth was very difficult to extract and the dentist had to focibly rock the tooth back and forth to get it loose enough to remove. The tooth came out fully in tact. However, I now have a very painful, sharp bony protrusion on the outside of the gum area of the extraction. Is this some kind of broken or crushed socket?
Avatar f tn Also, not taking care of an abscess tooth and the infection going into your blood stream in severe cases can cause death.
Avatar f tn appt to prepare my upper teeth for the impressions, my dentist decided to fix a problematic tooth not specified in the phase I project. He found I needed a root canal, which he did. During the procedure, he said my "devital" tooth had abscessed and he worked on that. I was on antibiotics (augmentin) before the surgery, which I continued due to the abscess but the day following the root canal, my face is very swollen, from the nose to below the jaw bone and slightly pink.
Avatar n tn Thank you for your reply, remar! I appreciate your concern. I ended up at an Oral Surgeon's office yesterday, and he had to re-open the site of infection and scrape, clean, remove cadaver bone chips, pack with antibiotic and close it up with 4 stitches and a drain. I am also on Clindamycin again. I go back tomorrow to have the drain removed. I was in *horrible* pain yesterday, but today it is quite a bit better.
Avatar m tn s attached to my jaw bone. I had my wisdom tooth removed from that location about a year ago because it impacted my other tooth. I've read a little about tori but I'm not really sure at this point. It doesn't hurt either, just feels uncomfortable when I put pressure on it.
Avatar m tn What do you mean by shrinking? As in the bone around the teeth is shrinking away and the teeth are getting looser? You should get a dental checkup and find out what's causing the bone loss and to remove the broken tooth which could be a potential abscess site. The continued bone loss is worrisome and can accelerate and be more difficult to keep under control the longer its neglected.
Avatar m tn What about a gum abscess that is being treated with antibiotics? My boyfriend has a gum abscess and he has been prescribed penicillin and topical antibiotics. He says it is getting better, but for some reason his cheek on the other side of his mouth got swollen (maybe unrelated from biting it) and he says the area of the abscess is still a little irritated even after being on antibiotics today.
Avatar f tn Due to extension bone loss from periodontal disease it is recommended that #14 be extracted. I want to have an implant placed when possible. I was told that I need to have ridge augmentation done before a sinus lift is possible. Why can't bone grafting, etc. and a sinus life be done when the tooth is extracted?
Avatar f tn The only possible reason for this abscess that I can think of is that about a year ago, my front tooth got the corner chipped off. Please respond asap... I am a worrier!! This discussion is related to dental abscess.
Avatar n tn From the antibiotics? Or the actual abscess.. I read somewhere that it is possible for the abscess to still linger until all the dead cells are removed so the taste/smell can linger. Any ideas? I am not in horrible pain so I don't believe it is a dry socket. I can't really describe the taste other than unpleasent. Also, brownish small globs were coming out of the area the night after my extraction.
Avatar n tn that it was part of his jaw bone, not a root or piece of tooth, exposed. They referred him back to the Periodontist today. He just called me from their office saying that it is not an abscess, they don't know what it is & referred him back to our primary care Doctor (not Dentist) for a referral to either a Eye, Nose & Throat specialist or an Oral Surgeon. He is in severe pain, mostly his tongue, swallowing etc...
Avatar m tn My husband gets bad tooth absesesses (excuse spelling) and it went away with some amoxicilin, but now he has a hard as a rock round pouch on his jaw bone and he's in a lot of pain. we dont have medical insurance and live far from the er. Avatar n tn |The tooth did not hurt too much, so i let it go for awhile. Of course, I developed an abscess and ended up having the tooth pulled, and the adjacent tooth-#9-had a root canal done at my expense. I was told that my jawbone was infected and I was given antibiotics. The abscess has never gone away, and i still have a raised area that is visible on the front of my gums. 9 months ago, tooth #7 broke 1/8 inch above the gum line.
Avatar n tn You need to run a test for moniliasis to rule this out. It could also be due to caries in tooth, abscess in gums, pyorrhea, abscess in cheek, or infection of internal ear. It could also be due to osteomyelitis of the jaw bone or due to involvement of temporomandibular joint. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. You would need to consult a dentist and an ENT specialist for this. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar n tn My guess to your situation would be that a dental infection started in your tooth and has spread from the pulp of the tooth into the jaw bone. From the jaw bone, it has broken through the jaw and is now spreading through the soft tissue (muscles, skin, etc) and spreads out to wherever there is space to grow. The antibiotics should be completely finished. Is your doctor bringing you back for further treatment?
Avatar f tn I have had a long history of dental problems, all of them costly. I developed a tooth abscess, my mom didn't do anything about it and it ended up staying in my mouth for about 5 or 6 years. By the time the tooth was finally extracted in October 2011, the toxicity of the abscess deteriorated away at my jaw bone. The tooth in question was a molar, second from the very back of the bottom of my mouth. The tooth above it started to over-erupt, but has been stopped by the very back molar.
