Common Questions and Answers about Abscess symptoms teeth

abscess

Avatar n tn I have ignored a toothache for a few years due to a fear of dentists (no offense intended) and recently had an abscess diagnosed from a CT scan done for a suspected sinus infection. It turned out to be a very large abscess of 2 teeth, so big, that the dentist and his partner at first told me it was way to big to be an abscess and had to take repeated x-rays to identify it. I am on antibiotics and they told me with a root canal my teeth could be saved.
Avatar f tn It is indeed possible that some of these symptoms may be associated with these teeth abscess. And to rule out any other issues, it is best that you have this checked by a dentist. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn It is in the same general area of the two upper teeth that I need crowned. I have had those teeth X-rayed, and there was no abscess. I had a hole in my heart closed in august 2009 and I take preventative antibiotics for all my dental work because of risk of infection. I have been having these kinds of symptoms since November 2009. I am worried I have a dental infection spreading from neglected dental work, that was complicated by a mis-diagnosis. Sorry for dragging this on, and on.
1842266 tn?1318860459 There can be a large amount of symptoms that can indicate problems with your teeth. There could be pain, swelling, fever, bad taste or smell, pus drainage, bleeding, etc. An abscess can spread to various parts of the body, from the head region down to the neck to the chest cavity. Its hard to really simplify your question because anything could potentially be a symptoms of your teeth's infection.
Avatar m tn I have fairly white healthy teeth, but I have an abscess behind my tooth, how can I get rid of it, or sooth the pain.

Avatar n tn I get a gross taste when I yawn almost feels like pus draining throught my 2nd to last upper molar on the right side of my mouth. I have had all my teeth checked by a dentist and no abscess has been found, or anything else that would explain the drainage. I have been seeing a lot of doctors recently, none of which seem to help me out with anything. I get some dizziness, and pressure in the ears sometimes as well. I also have what feels like swelling on my hard palate.
Avatar m tn Been having teeth infection issues for a year and a half. Feeling very unwell, sometimes unable to get out of bed, pain on left side of face and head. Had x rays, cat scan, MRI, blood work. All normal except for slight thickness on left side. Nobody can find infection, and yet I respond to antibiotics to the point I am able to function, ei. Get out of bed, shower, go for a walk. I am currently taking ibuprophen for pain. Outside of this, I was a very healthy, active person.
Avatar f tn You may want to have the endodontist (root canal specialist) take a look at the tooth and see if it needs a root canal. Sometimes excess cement can cause tooth pain in the area as well. Sometimes if the cavity is deep, it can take some time before the teeth develop symptoms and its unpredictable when that'll happen. Another issue may be pulpal degeneration, in which the nerve will begin to die and develop problems due to its long history of fillings, cavities, crowns, etc.
Avatar n tn All of a sudden from yesterday his cheek was swollen and by reading the previous posts, i am sure it is abscess by listening all of his same symptoms like breaking teeth little by little from 6 months which he didnt told us till now. I do have enough amoxillin 500mg tabs with me. Can i continue them to him and wait till he goes back so that he can pull his teeth over there in india? Shall i add ibrufen to that too? how much mg of ibrufen should i give?
Avatar n tn yesterday i had two teeth pulled due to a gum abscess. I was'n t comfortable about this. I thought if there was infection in your mouth you should'nt have teeth pulled, anyway I have a swollen chec. I am taking medication two different kinds. Three times a day. Is this normal after having teeth pulled.
Avatar n tn I went to my regular dentist on 1/13/06 and xrays showed a large abscess in tooth #10, as well as a smaller abscess in tooth #20. On 1/17/06 I had a RCT done on tooth #10, as well as an incision in the roof of my mouth behind that tooth to help extract the infection. On 1/19/06, I had a RCT done on tooth #20, with one 0.05mm post placed. I have been on Antibiotics since 1/13/06, taking Penicillin VK 500mg QID, so I'm now on my Eighth day of antibiotics.
Avatar f tn Then i started paying more attention to my health i ended up in the er at least once a month because i was so confused with these new weird symptoms i was sure i was dying then i started noticing what bad condition my teeth were in and again started to google and read about bad teeth can cause poor health so on and so on, and the day i had my first anxiety attack was this year on july 31.
Avatar f tn A year ago I went to get 2 teeth removed (side by side on top). The dentist broke one off below the gum line and the other he crushed and broke in half, he did not get either of them out. I have been terrified of mouth work since childhood. He told me he would not work on me again unless I took Valium first. He said He needs to cut open the gum and drill into my jaw bone to remove the teeth. I did not go back and that was a year ago. Now the half tooth is abscessed.
Avatar n tn Teeth have been sensitive since then and pain around cheek area feels worse that toothache before I had teeth out. If this is a cheek abscess how is it treated???
Avatar f tn For bruxism (grinding of teeth), you can get a gum shield to protect your teeth from being worn away from grinding when you sleep. The dentist usually makes it for you to fit over your bottom teeth. I do not know what the cost of that would be and whether it would be done for free if you are using a NHS dentist. You would have to ask the dental receptionist. Best wishes.
Avatar m tn Had an abscess in there from a failed pulp cap. I let it go, only found the abscess on a dental xray, had no symptoms. Now out of the blue this tooth hurts a little when you tap on it. No other pain other than that. Tooth has a post. Both teeth showed clean on the x-rays taken 6-8 weeks ago. I am afraid that I may have fractured it due to my tooth grinding. I am going nuts over these two teeth. My endodontist and dentist are on vacation.
Avatar m tn by the time i got to the er the doctor told me that my abscess was 1 inch by 3/8 of an inch big. that is pretty large for an abscess. with something like this the longer you put it off the worst it will get. hope you feel better soon.
Avatar f tn Should the abscess still be causing pain in my lower jaw and teeth? My front teeth hurt even though the abscess was in my lower molar. My face also still hurts quite a bit and it is hard for me to talk and move my lower face. Thank you.
Avatar n tn Hey, I have a lower mandibular bar that is like everyone's, fuzes to my canines. Well I usually chew my nails and put the nail underneath the bar and throughout the embrasure of the teeth. Well I did that and it was between 22 and 23 and it kind of hurt and like I need the nail out of there so I just pulled it through and it kind of scratched the gum line. It was sore, but now out of no where a very small abscess has formed.
Avatar n tn It is possible that your teeth are sound and that you have an abscess originating from the gum/bone attachment rather than the tooth itself. Popping the pimple releases the pus and helps to drain the area and the antibiotics also help to keep the infection in check. I would recommend swishing with a warm salt rinse to help pull fluids from the swelling to help reduce it. The best course of action is to treat the actual infection though and to resolve it.
Avatar f tn I lost a filling a few years back. Food woud get caught between the two teeth so I avoided chewing on that side since that's the only time it really hurt. Over a year ago I noticed a lump in my jaw, under where the tooth was. But I never really had a toothache, maybe just a couple times and very short lived, like a couple hours. Is that "normal"? I had the tooth pulled yesterday. The dentist said that now that the tooth is gone, the lump will go away too.
Avatar n tn Hello, I have a tooth (4th upper to the right) which had long ago been root-canaled. Several years ago I noticed it had an abscess. There was also periodic (about once a month) white pus discharge from the gum above. A dentist did a retreatment of the root canal. The pus stopped, however there was still a swelling and the tooth was still giving me problems after a year passed and the swelling remained.
Avatar n tn I recently went to the dentist because of pain in between my gum and an abscess forming below. He did an xray and found no tooth damage. He found that I needed a root canal two teeth back. It is still incredibly painful in between my teeth and there is incredible pressure below my tooth where the abscess is forming. Should I go to the doctor again? The pus has not started draining in it despite attempts with salt water, tea bags and hydrogen peroxide to draw it out.
Avatar f tn Do any of your teeth hurt? Sounds like you have an infection or abscess. If an abscess in the teeth goes unattended the infection will spread into the jaw and cause a lump. You need to get checked out ASAP!! If left untreated, the infection will spread into your blood stream.
Avatar f tn Hi. I have been having upper mouth pain for about 3 days. There is no abscess or infection of my teeth. I went to the dentist 3 weeks ago and was given a clean bill of health. I went to the dentist today and he said he is not sure what is causing the pain. He took a bunch of x-rays, but could find nothing wrong. He said it's not a cracked tooth, cavities, or an abscess. I have already had all my wisdom teeth pulled. Sometimes the pain is also referred to my lower jaw.
Avatar f tn Hi, lump in the gums above and adjacent to the teeth most commonly can be tooth abscess or fistula opening due to infected tooth. You may just check out any frank cavity or food imapaction area in related teeth to the swelling. In such case you may need antibiotics and root canal treatment of the affected tooth with the help of a dentist. Other possibilties could be pyogenic granuloma, fibroma, periodontal abscess etc. Check out with local dentist to confirm.

Avatar n tn I visited a great dentist and he said that I have two teeth infections/ and abscess. One of the tooth infections was over a tooth that had a root canal ( about 15 yrs ago) So, my dentist recommended extractions on both infected back teeth. He also recommended implants as well. I was ok with this and didnt want to go through the root canal procedure again. Plus, extraction was recommended in my particular case. I just got one tooth extracted today.
