Avatar m tn by the time i got to the er the doctor told me that my abscess was 1 inch by 3/8 of an inch big. that is pretty large for an abscess. with something like this the longer you put it off the worst it will get. hope you feel better soon.
Avatar n tn It is in the same general area of the two upper teeth that I need crowned. I have had those teeth X-rayed, and there was no abscess. I had a hole in my heart closed in august 2009 and I take preventative antibiotics for all my dental work because of risk of infection. I have been having these kinds of symptoms since November 2009. I am worried I have a dental infection spreading from neglected dental work, that was complicated by a mis-diagnosis. Sorry for dragging this on, and on.
Avatar m tn Been having teeth infection issues for a year and a half. Feeling very unwell, sometimes unable to get out of bed, pain on left side of face and head. Had x rays, cat scan, MRI, blood work. All normal except for slight thickness on left side. Nobody can find infection, and yet I respond to antibiotics to the point I am able to function, ei. Get out of bed, shower, go for a walk. I am currently taking ibuprophen for pain. Outside of this, I was a very healthy, active person.

Avatar f tn I lost a filling a few years back. Food woud get caught between the two teeth so I avoided chewing on that side since that's the only time it really hurt. Over a year ago I noticed a lump in my jaw, under where the tooth was. But I never really had a toothache, maybe just a couple times and very short lived, like a couple hours. Is that "normal"? I had the tooth pulled yesterday. The dentist said that now that the tooth is gone, the lump will go away too.
Avatar f tn A tooth abscess is usually a complication of tooth decay. In a dental abscess, or tooth abscess there is accumulation of pus inside the teeth or gums. The abscess usually originates from a bacterial infection and is mostly caused by a dental infection. The common presenting complaints are severe toothache, breath odour, fever, pain when chewing, sensitivity to hot or cold, swelling of gums, swollen glands etc.
Avatar f tn Sometimes if the cavity is deep, it can take some time before the teeth develop symptoms and its unpredictable when that'll happen. Another issue may be pulpal degeneration, in which the nerve will begin to die and develop problems due to its long history of fillings, cavities, crowns, etc. Each time something happens to the tooth (trauma, etc) it damages it and eventually it can't heal itself anymore and the nerve begins to die.
Avatar n tn Only blood was on the qtip, nothing yellow. I checked his teeth, they all look ok. I can't see under his tongue. He's been acting normally, eating hard and soft food, going to the bathroom, etc.
Avatar n tn I have ignored a toothache for a few years due to a fear of dentists (no offense intended) and recently had an abscess diagnosed from a CT scan done for a suspected sinus infection. It turned out to be a very large abscess of 2 teeth, so big, that the dentist and his partner at first told me it was way to big to be an abscess and had to take repeated x-rays to identify it. I am on antibiotics and they told me with a root canal my teeth could be saved.
Avatar f tn It seems I have had one tooth infection after another. I had two teeth extracted because the infection would never clear up..okay, I went to my general Dr. Because my lymph nodes on the left side of my neck were swollen, he ran tests they came back normal.. He did a CT of the node and it is just reactive. So he sent me to a ENT who scoped me and said everything is fine.. So then process of elimination I called my dentist and went into to see him..
Avatar f tn At the same time bottom gums swelled and I was told that one of my back molars needed extracted. Had 3 teeth pulled. My gums are still swollen on bottom which all doctors say they look pink and healthy. I feel pressure in my jaw. I feel like I'm being strangled in my throat. Now I feel like I'm in a tunnel when I speak. All these symptoms came one after the other and I don't know what to do. I have had a CT scan, a scan of my jaw, and an MRI of my jaw.

Avatar n tn I visited a great dentist and he said that I have two teeth infections/ and abscess. One of the tooth infections was over a tooth that had a root canal ( about 15 yrs ago) So, my dentist recommended extractions on both infected back teeth. He also recommended implants as well. I was ok with this and didnt want to go through the root canal procedure again. Plus, extraction was recommended in my particular case. I just got one tooth extracted today.
Avatar m tn I began IV antibiotics, the first of many bags. The next night I finally had my surgery. They removed 2 teeth, my lower right wisdom tooth, and the molar in front of it, and drained my cheek. When I awoke I was on a breathing tube due o my swelling and had 2 penrose drains sewn into my mouth. I remained on the tube another day and a half, and in the ICU another 3 days total.
Avatar n tn At one time I loved the shower warmth but now it has become the shower of torment. My teeth have been neglected for years and I maybe have trouble with my wisdom teeth. I have an appointment very soon but I am worried. When I researched the symptoms I came back with Trigeminal neuralgia does this sound possible? What are some tell tale ways to separate the two? And last but not least doses this sound live a problem with the teeth or something more sinister?
Avatar m tn Or perhaps the lower wisdom teeth can produce symptoms located in the upper jaw? Or is it the ear? I must say the whole situation is rather irritating for me.
660300 tn?1224793961 toungue, lip, chin, very painful jaw, sore teeth/gums, lack of taste etc. Your post brought tears to my eyes as I know exactly what you're going through as I know how scary, painful and upsetting it is. Not to mention being angry about what has happened to you and thinking how on earth can this be better than the odd bout of pain/antibiotics?
Avatar f tn I recently discovered that I have two infected wisdom teeth. I am having surgery tomorrow to get them extracted, however I am scared that the wisdom teeth may not be the cause of the daily migraines I have been enduring. Is it possible for wisdom teeth to cause that much pain? Also, is it normal for an oral surgeon to extract a wisdom tooth while infected without antibiotic treatment first? What are the complications and/or possibilities of this?
Avatar f tn Please know your not alone with the aching teeth. My teeth have ached to the point that I asked for a root canal, got it, and it didn't stop the pain!! It cost alot of money and I didn't get relief, talk about frustrating!! I also grind my teeth and my dentist says the nerves get all flared up, that's why they hurt. When you see the dentist and if this is the case with you, you should ask for a nightguard, it works wonders. Good luck, I love this place too.
Avatar f tn About 9 years ago I cracked out a tooth, about 5 years later the molar beside that one cracked out as well. I have very soft teeth. Well, because I have this horrid fear of the dentist I never went and had them pulled. I have been dealing with on again off again infections for the past 9 years. After the nerve died the pain started to go away so the only way I knew I had an infection was when I got the pus bubble which I was usually able to drain.

Avatar n tn Hi, I have been suffering since xmas 2008! I have severe pain in my upper left teeth - and sometimes they hurt to the touch - but not all the time. I also have pain in the upper corner of my left cheek and in my left eye. I have been to my dentist - who did not xray my teeth(Feb 09), but he banged on each one to check if there was any pain (which he said there would have been if there was an infection) He therefore referred me to my GP who has diagnosed Neuralgia....
Avatar n tn dentist took X-ray which was negative (i guess meant negative for abscess) and said tooth is sensitive and I could either 1) look into root canal or 2) maybe try sensodine to see if sensitivity clears up or 3) maybe switch out the white filling for a silver filling - maybe the white filling is irratating the nerve. i tried the sensodine and pain went away october, 2008 - tooth still feels good, no sensitivity and had my routine dental checkup. thurs Nov.
