Common Questions and Answers about Abscess symptoms bartholin

abscess

Avatar m tn Hi Im 14 and Im pretty sure I have a bartholin abscess. I was about to tell my mom (she's out of town) but then I researched it and found out that the doctor has to examine it before giving treatments. Is there any way I could get the antibiotic by describing it or is there a way that I can make it heal myself?

Avatar f tn I don't remember my labia minora being like this before had my bartholin abscess removed. When I had the abscess it got seriously infected to the point I had severe flu-like symptoms, the body chills, night sweats, temp of 103, and some serious discomfort(which didn't come till it got ridiculously swollen). It also was so swollen I couldn't tell what was what and it was HUGELY gross big. Could that have caused the enlargement in my labia minora?
Avatar f tn Yesterday, I saw my gyno for what I thought was an abscess of my R Batholin gland. It wasn't an abscess. It wasn't a cyst. It was marsupialized no drainage. It is just a big lump. It was a small lump in August and I just thought it would "come to a head". But, it didn't it just grew deep in the Labia Majora. To my surprise, biopsies were taken! Why haven't we been told about cancer in the glands of Batholin and how to examine ourselves.
Avatar f tn Hi, How are you? A Bartholin cyst requires no treatment if it is asymptomatic or there are no symptoms. Treatment depends on the size of the cyst, the amount of discomfort it causes and whether it's infected, resulting in an abscess. Hot sitz baths may help while antibiotics, surgical drainage.and marsupialization can be done if it is infected. Laser therapy has been used but it is not widely available and is more expensive than other surgical treatment.
Avatar n tn I went to the emergency room and was diagnosed with a bartholin gland abscess. Had the incision and a word catheter was inserted as well. A couple days after this I had a follow up appointment with the local womens clinic and was referred there by the doctor who performed the first i and d. I was then diagnosed with a labial abscess as well and that day had to have another surgery with incision and drainage. I also was diagnosed with mrsa staph infection.
Avatar n tn I had a colonoscopy 3 months ago, and now I have a huge abscess in my right Bartholin gland, and they are trying to figure out if it is CA or not. Also, there is lots of old blood in it. I have had no sex in the last three months or any other activity in that area other than the colonoscopy, and my OB/GYN says that it couldn't be from the trauma of the colonoscopy. They are testing for CA and I will have results today. I don't believe her.
Avatar f tn Hello, From your symptoms, it looks like a Bartholin's abscess or cyst.
Avatar f tn If the Bartholin gland or duct gets infected, it is called a Bartholin gland abscess.
Avatar f tn I posted a number of weeks back about having OVCA symptoms. Since then, The TVU shows really small ovaries and CA-125 is very low. My doctor is not buying that. He gave me Librax in an attempt to calm lower abdomen pain. He has shown a great deal of respect for my perception in this and feels that this could be early stage OVCA. After I use the Librax for a few weeks, he will do a CAT scan if the symptoms are still present. Bartholin's gland cancer has now come into the mix.
Avatar n tn From what you are describing I would think it may be a Bartholin's cyst or abscess. The Bartholin glands are in the lower portion of the vagina and while the cyst isn't supposed to be painful, the abscess is and I would imagine if the cyst were big enough it would hurt. You may want to see your gyn about this. Also you can google Bartholin's cyst and you will get a lot of information.
Avatar n tn This could be due to a Bartholin's cyst or abscess, sebacious cyst or a possible sexually transmitted disease.Hair follicles that have pulled out or the incidence of skin trauma may trigger the growth of sebaceous cysts. The presence of pubic hair in the vulva near the vagina would tend to result to vaginal lumps. Without infection, this usually goes away on its own.
Avatar f tn Hello, From your symptoms,it looks like a Bartholin's abscess or cyst. There are glands in the vaginal lips called Bartholin’s glands. These can become painful and swollen, and an abscess can form. This often causes blockage in the main duct from the gland, and a cyst develops. This is felt as a painless, hard swelling. In such cases, antibiotics may be helpful, or surgical treatment might be required.
Avatar n tn like i went on other website to see signs of herpes but i dont have any of the other symptoms other than a big red pimple thing on my vagina. im kinda freakin out... thanks and im sorry if this is totally the wrong thing to be asking you.. im not really sure how this website works. thanks so much by the way!!
Avatar f tn it came back again, I saw another doctor because my primary was out, they perscribed new antibiotics and referred me to an OBGYN under the suspicion that it was a bartholin cyst or abscess...Exactly 1 month ago I saw that OBGYN, she ruled out bartholin gland issues and performed yet another swab to confirm it wasn't herpes which came back negative and she prescribed me clyndamiacin gel, which paired with antibiotics seemed to clear everything up again.
Avatar n tn Hello, From the symptoms,it sounds like a boil. Boils are caused by infection of the hair follicle by staph aureus.Hair follicles that are blocked by greasy creams, petroleum jelly, or similar products are more vulnerable to infection. Pls keep the area clean and apply some warm compresses and topical antiseptics. Also wear loose-fitting cotton clothing and use an antibacterial soap or mild soap like dove.Avoid any kind of cosmetics.
571685 tn?1217998548 Hello, 1 year after breaking up, my ex-girlfriend recently tested negative for HIV & Syphilis; however unfortunately she didn't do a STD panel alongside. She came to me for an opinion in regards to this matter, and I advised her that perhaps testing for STD's is sensible as well, granted her concern: She frequently suffers a condition commonly known as "Bartholin's Cyst or Abscess" if I'm not mistaken -- a swelling on her left side labia which periodically comes & goes.
Avatar n tn Your oral medications may need to be modified and there is great need to avoid sexual contact while this is not completely resolved. A bartholin gland abscess has to be ruled out. Also, with a significant sexual history, blood test may be done to rule out other sexually transmitted diseases. Are there palpable nodular swelling in the groin ? Any rash or history of fever? Any pain in urination?
Avatar m tn I looked at all the suggestions posted for the symptoms- including a bartholin cyst or abscess, but that is not what I have. There was no trauma, itching, burning, or ingrown hairs.. so does anyone have any idea what it could be? I have an appointment scheduled for friday, but I would really like to go in having an idea of what it might be. Any suggestions would be helpful. thanks.
Avatar n tn I would be very surprised by a bladder prolapse in a young woman who has not had a vaginally delivered baby (which I assume you have not). A bartholin gland cyst or abscess sounds more likely, especially since you have had STDs before. PID in young women is almost always an STD, most commonly due to chlamydia or gonorrhea. The same things cause Bartholin gland infections. Bottom line: Stop relying on online opinions and your mother's advice. See a health care provider right away.
Avatar n tn It is called a Bartholins Gland cyst or abscess. With all the symptoms there is most likely there is an infection present. Please follow this link: http://women.webmd.com/tc/bartholin-gland-cyst-treatment-overview ...and Google it! If you have the ALL symptoms that I described and you have done your own research and you do believe it to be a Bartholin Gland cyst. Then the next time it occurs see a doctor while the swelling is still present.
Avatar f tn Have them check your bartholin gland, it could possibly be a bartholin cyst. I had one and went through the same symptoms. There is a gland on both sides and sometimes the can become infected causing painful swelling and rectal discomfort. They can drain the fluid by placing a small tube to keep the incision open so that it will heal. I am not saying that is what you have but I went through almost exactly the same thing you are going through.
Avatar n tn i have that as well and like the other girl, I am 15 years old, never had sex of any sort and I just visited the gyno for the first time yesterday. I didn't mention it to her becuase I didn't realize it until I got home. I am getting blood work done next week but for a different reason. I am kind of scared and I as well have been searching the internet, but found nothing. If you find anything else, please let me know.
Avatar n tn I have done a search, but the only thing I find is for a Bartholin gland cyst and my husband doesn't think it looks the same as my swelling is on the same part only on the upper portion of the labia minora. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. I have soaked in a bath and taken advil, but it is still hurting to walk or sit in certain positions. Thanks!
Avatar n tn I had a cyst (a bartholin gland cyst) on my outer labia. It was under the skin and a little red but no "head" or anything. When you lightly squeezed it you could feel that it was solid and the size of a small bean under there. The gyn said it might get bigger with wearing underwear and sex but to be honest when my partner and I started getting more sexually active it started to shrink and now I cant feel it.
Avatar f tn This only happens during sex - other than that, I have no symptoms, and no swelling. I went back to a different doctor thinking maybe the yeast infection hadn't cleared up - got another dose of Diflucan, lab results showed NO YEAST, and waited another 2 weeks before trying sex again. Same thing. Swelled up literally like a balloon - bright red, hard labia, uncomforable feeling at the base of vaginal opening.
Avatar n tn could this be an irritation of some kind, or i was reading about bartholin cysts, but the lump is not located on the vaginal lips. I'm pretty worried and i know i need to make an appointment with my docter, but could you give me any help with this problem.
Avatar n tn hi, i just searched the web for the symptoms of what pinkchic was describing and found this forum, i took bits and pieces of some of the advice posted up, and a phonecall to my mum! and managed to "pop" my lump. had it on the edge of the labia (lip) ive had about 3 now, never really knowing what they are, always had a thought that they might be skin cysts though!
Avatar n tn Must be the antibiotic shot weakened the abscess membrane and it drained. I have no idea what I did to have this abscess happen. So, right now I am almost half way through my antibiotics and trying to keep from having a yeast infection. It's still red in my clitoris area and I can't do much except rest and take it easy. I have a doctor's appt. next week but I am just so upset about this. I NEVER want to experience something like this again. I'm afraid it will come back.
Avatar f tn Just to see that you were atleast negative before the encounter. I have heard that some people cld be positive witg out symptoms, and then years later get symptoms.
