Common Questions and Answers about Abscess staph infection

Avatar n tn My brother injected himself with what he says is a mixture of his own feces and water. He did this IM and now has a knot in his arm at the injection site and a fever. He refuses to go to the doctor. I just need to know what can happen to him. He said it was about 1.5cc worth of this "solution" he created. Why does he have this knot? It's not a normal abscess if it is an abscess at all.
Avatar m tn It sound like to me you need to find a well respected and well known Infectious Disease doctor ASAP. I have been fighting a systemic staph infection for 2 months now and I can tell you that having the right doc will make all the difference in the world. The Staph infection I have been fighting is called MRSA it stands for Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus it is also referred as a multi-drug resistant form of Staph.
Avatar n tn Hello, From the symptoms it sounds like a boil or an abscess. A boil caused due to staph infection generally starts as a reddened, tender area. Over time, the area becomes firm and hard. Eventually, the center of the abscess softens and becomes filled with pus. Finally, the pus "forms a head," which can be surgically opened or spontaneously drain out. Apply warm compresses on these bumps and consult a dermatologist for examination and confirmation of diagnosis.
Avatar m tn Though infection get transmitted if the resistance is good the chances of trasmission are unlikely.Howevever best to wait for the eradication of the organism.
Avatar m tn I have had reoccurring infections of various kinds over the past several years including styes, cysts in my upper thigh regions, nose, and now a golfball sized abcess on my back. I've been prescribed apo cephalex 4x daily @ 500 mg, and have been taking echinecea and doing hot compresses several times a day. Nothing seems to be helping so far, and when I went in to the clinic doctor, she said it was too hard to lance (on the 20th, it's now 11 pm of the 23rd)....
Avatar f tn And I dont think in your case just cipro would supress the infection (fever/ large lump is more suggestive of abscess rather than just breast infection; requiring drainage). Possiblity of ductectasia (with super added infection) can not be ruled out in your case.
Avatar f tn However, if doctors found a staph bacteria in a culture of your biopsy, I am curious as to whether you have an actual infection, or IGM (which does not involve a bacterial infection). Is it possible that the biopsy results were contaminated? Has your doctor mentioned a possibility of IGM? With IGM, recurrent abscesses are very common. What are your doctors saying?

577106 tn?1219839345 ve been treated with vancomycin several years ago for a staph infection in my bloodstream. Was a pain the the rear, had a pic line in my arm that ran up my veins and into my heart. Had to shoot myself up with antibiotics twice a day. Hopefully your situation won't come to this, but I think it would be unwise to let it go untreated. As far as the topical nasal antibiotics, I don't know if neosporin would do the trick. I'm on mysoporcin as a prescription.
Avatar m tn I just recently got a lump under my skin near the bottom of my butt crack. I had it for about 3 days. Its about the size of a 50 cents piece, and its hard and sore. Its very very sore in one spot. I haven't noticed a change in my skin color. I've read that it could be from an infection of some sort. An ear piercing that I have got infected from using non gold about a week ago.
Avatar f tn Hello, It can be a boil or a cyst. Boils are caused by infection of the hair follicle by staph aureus. . Hair follicles that are blocked by greasy creams, petroleum jelly, or similar products are more vulnerable to infection. Bacterial skin infections can be spread by shared cosmetics or washcloths, close human contact, or by contact with pus from a boil or carbuncle. Treatment includes antibiotics and incision and drainage and do not touch or pick them up.
10441189 tn?1410152122 Make an urgent appointment to see your doctor immediately. The only way to find out which bacteria is causing this "abscess" is to have a culture test. You have an abscess and require an urgent course of antibiotics. It is good that the puss is draining away, but you still may need help with the drainage and for the "plug" to be removed.

Avatar f tn ve gotten one on my arm, 6 on my buttocks, 4 on my thigh area, and 1 in the pubic area.
Avatar f tn started valtrex suppressive theory approx 24 days ago. i came down with an infection on a peritonsillat abscess which compromised my white blodd cell count to nearly 9000 and was eventually hospitalized to get condition and pain from abscess under control. now home i feel tingling and noticed one small vaginal lesion, obviously my hpv. this would be my 2nd outbreak ever so i dont know what to expect. it is not near as bad as the first one which was 2 months ago.
Avatar f tn So maybe 3 weeks ago I got an abscess underneath my armpit. The had to slice it open and drain it. It's been 2 or so weeks that it's been draining and I found out it was staph infection so they put me on antibiotics. I've been taking the antibiotics for a few days and then one morning I had intense vaginal itching and my vagina was all swollen (I'm sorry for graphics!). I did some research and was 99% sure I had a yeast infection.
Avatar f tn Thanks!! I'm so sorry you all had to have it drain more than once. I was hoping it would just go away but now I'm not to sure. I haven't been on any antibiotics for about three weeks now and I'm not sure I want to get on any if its not helping?! I would be very surprise if any thing shows on the cultures. When I had my first biopsy in Sept 2010 they sent a sample to culture and sensitive and it came back showing a staph infection. I didn't get rid of the staph until I got I.
Avatar f tn Is it Staph epidermidis or Staph aureus. Ask them about that too. If staph epi then it is just normal bacteria and doesn't need treatment if Staph aureus it depends on how much you have of it. If only a few bacteria then they may not treat it but if you have a lot then they will give you an antibiotic. It depends on how what term you are in in your pregnancy if they can give you antibiotics. But the antifungal is a topcial so it should be okay.
