Avatar m tn A few months ago I had a tooth infection on my lower back molar. I was told I need a root canal and given antibiotics. After the infection cleared up and stopped hurting I forgot about it, with the intention of eventually going back and getting it taken care of. Well now I have a painless lump on the outside gum right below that tooth. It seems to have appeared over night. I thought I felt food in there and noticed it. It feels like a blister but doesn't hurt at all.

Avatar n tn I went to my regular dentist on 1/13/06 and xrays showed a large abscess in tooth #10, as well as a smaller abscess in tooth #20. On 1/17/06 I had a RCT done on tooth #10, as well as an incision in the roof of my mouth behind that tooth to help extract the infection. On 1/19/06, I had a RCT done on tooth #20, with one 0.05mm post placed. I have been on Antibiotics since 1/13/06, taking Penicillin VK 500mg QID, so I'm now on my Eighth day of antibiotics.

Avatar f tn It can be caused by tooth decay, broken teeth or any extensive periodontal disease. There is no definite time it takes for this abscess to form. It depends on the severity of the organisms and their virulence. This is merely an advice and not a substitute for clinical examination. I hope it helps. Best wishes and regards!
Avatar m tn I had an abscess in my tooth and it has been extracted now it's infected and I am on antibiotics it is still bleeding after 48 hours now just wondering if I could get a bit of advice please
Avatar n tn As rightly mentioned this seems to be a recurring abscess. Generally a dead tooth nerve gets infected and forms an abscess. Please contact your dentist immediately.
Avatar f tn last sunday i woke up with a severe pain in this tooth, went to dentist on monday, who took an xray and said i had a abscess. he put me antibotics and gave me pain killers also, its now wed and my lips and gums are swollen, the pain has gone down a tiny bit but i still cant sleep with the pain. is this normal that the pain and now the swelling has started. does the abscess have to burst or clear before it gets better.
Avatar m tn The gum above the tooth is also perfectly fine. I had an abscess tooth before (oddly the exact same tooth just on the opposite side) about 2 years ago. The constant pressure feeling is the same but the swelling looks slightly different. When tapping my abscessed tooth there was incredible pain but now when i tap this tooth the pain hardly changes. The gum tissue above my abscessed tooth was also very sensitive, dark pink, and began to develop a boil. There is no sign of that this time.

Avatar n tn s got a tooth abscess in a healthy tooth and that the tooth should be extracted. He said it is unusual in cats and that they don't know the cause. He also suggested some antibiotics for a few days before the surgery to help with the infection. Just wondering if it is worth trying to save the tooth. Go through the course of antibiotics and see if he gets better. My vet made me feel like I was just being cheap and that conventional wisdom is to just remove the tooth.
Avatar f tn An abscessed tooth is a painful infection at the root of a tooth or between the gum and a tooth. It's most commonly caused by severe tooth decay. Other causes of tooth abscess are trauma to the tooth, such as when it is broken or chipped, and gingivitis or gum disease. These problems can cause openings in the tooth enamel, which allows bacteria to infect the center of the tooth (called the pulp). The infection may also spread from the root of the tooth to the bones supporting the tooth.
Avatar f tn t have a problem with aspirin, you could try dissolving some baby aspirin on your tooth and the surrounding area. Or oil of cloves to help numb it. But I am not a doctor, so you really should find someone to call. Your local pharmacist may be helpful. They have a lot of training. Good luck. I hope you feel better soon.
Avatar n tn I have a bum on my gum on the left side of my face behind the last tooth. Some people are saying it might be a caker sore or an abscess. The bump became bigger and I noticed a white substance inside of the bump. It grew bigger than with the help of hot water and salt it began to drain. First question what is this on my gum? How long does it take to heal? and Should I go to the dentist after it fully heals?
Avatar n tn I'm very worried about my husband & need some direction. Some background; he went to a Periodontist about a month ago for treatment for gingivitis & had a tooth extraction (tooth 20 I believe), since that time he's had a couple of infections that were treated with antibiotics.
Avatar n tn You may be having some infection in your ear, sinuses, etc. Even a tooth abscess could cause this. See your PCP.
Avatar n tn Yes, it is possible to remove a tooth while you have an abscess. It depends on the extent of the abscess and how serious it is. Some doctors may opt to put you on antibiotics first to reduce the swelling then remove the tooth. Other doctors may decide to remove the tooth first to get rid of the source of infection and then help promote healing by being placed on antibiotics.
Avatar f tn Hi , after an abscess and a course of antibiotics , I finally had infected tooth removed the other day , everything is back to normal apart from my bottom lip and chin on the left side , I was wondering how long this took to clear up and feel normal .
Avatar m tn I have a dental abscess on upper molar. It has been drained and I am taking antibiotics, but now my lower jaw is starting to hurt. Can this abscess be spreading from upper to lower?
14987752 tn?1437741703 Going back to your dentist to have a post op exam is advised. Your descriptions suggest presence of bacterial resistance to amoxicillin. Switching to other antibiotics may help sooner recovery.
Avatar n tn I have a abscess in my front teeth. I do have an appointment on this coming Tuesday. What can I do to the swelling.
Avatar m tn Some antibiotics have analgesic effect. Therefore, if you feel better after taking antibiotics, it does not mean you have infection responsible for your symptoms. If you do have chronic infection in your mouth, clinical and radiographic exam can confirm. If your extensive dental treatment were rendered for left side facial pain and pain was not relieved, you may have a condition known as atypical odontalgia. Seeing an Orofacial pain specialist is advised.
Avatar f tn Also, not taking care of an abscess tooth and the infection going into your blood stream in severe cases can cause death.
Avatar f tn How long does it take for a cavity to develop a periapical abscess? When is the tooth too far gone to save it? Hope to hear from an expert.
Avatar n tn From the antibiotics? Or the actual abscess.. I read somewhere that it is possible for the abscess to still linger until all the dead cells are removed so the taste/smell can linger. Any ideas? I am not in horrible pain so I don't believe it is a dry socket. I can't really describe the taste other than unpleasent. Also, brownish small globs were coming out of the area the night after my extraction.
