Abscess on cats back

Common Questions and Answers about Abscess on cats back

abscess

Avatar n tn If it's a flea problem, I would guess that you'd see other places on your cats body that were scabbed too. Notice any other places?
Avatar n tn He said that he's got a tooth abscess in a healthy tooth and that the tooth should be extracted. He said it is unusual in cats and that they don't know the cause. He also suggested some antibiotics for a few days before the surgery to help with the infection. Just wondering if it is worth trying to save the tooth. Go through the course of antibiotics and see if he gets better. My vet made me feel like I was just being cheap and that conventional wisdom is to just remove the tooth.
Avatar f tn i didn't know coughing is notnormal for cats-i thought he just had phlegm running down the back of his throat and we almost lost him. that said-mine all had stuffy noses too and i tried everything: putting vicks on their chins so the vapors would drift to the nost but not be where it could be eaten-NOT appreciated.
Avatar n tn Crouched down, ears back, etc. From looking on line is seems like this happens with cats sometimes, especially after anesthesia. Can he really smell so different that she doesn't know him? Anything I can do to help? Do you think they will get back to normal and any idea how long it will take? It is pretty upsetting to see, especially since he is recovering and probably has no idea why she's being so mean.
592047 tn?1243389587 Hi Dr. I took my 6yr old siamese cross to the vet on wednesday for an abscess in her paw. My partner and I had trouble finding her on Wednesday, and didn't realise she had come into the house. Next thing she comes out of our bedroom with her left front leg lame and her left front paw swollen to 3 x the normal size, and collapses on the floor in front of us. We rushed her straight to the vet who diagnosed an abscess from a cat fight our girl must have got herself into.
480448 tn?1426952138 my first thoughts since they are indoor/outdoor is could Ceasar have come across and picked up the scent of another cat and Sassy is not recognizing him b/c cats go strictly on scent. or perhaps Sassy is not feeling well and being cranky?....maybe someone else will weigh in on their thoughts.... IMO its something that will pass, but worth keeping an eye on...
Avatar f tn So yesterday we noticed that he has a huge squishy lump on his head. Right on top. It looks exactly like a abscess before being drained. But here's the kicker...there's not sign of trauma on or around the lump. No bites/punctures wounds, no scratch marks..nothing. Just a lump with no signs of how it got there. The only thing I'm thinking it could be is an abscess that came from something he came in contact with (not an injury) and has manifested itself on his noggin. Soooo...
12289107 tn?1424482214 The only time he gets up is to come and eat and drink and go back to sleep. We have three cats, his sister and one kitten which he chases and we call it bullying them all day..but now the two runs around without him.And he always go to the kitchen sink and sit in there and stare at the drops of water on the sides of the sink, can cats get salmonella or anything from the sinks? Im asking cause sometimes i havent cleaned the sink when im cooking and when i turn he's sitting inside the sink.
1356258 tn?1277667850 There is no obvious wound, but his brother and him play fight a lot, and they bite and scratch at each other. They are indoor cats now, and have been out with our other cats for about 1 week and have been eating regular adult food (dry) since then instead of kitten food (dry). I swear that he did not have this bump at all when we found him, or even a few days ago.
2216535 tn?1339412493 and NSAID are very dangerous to use on cats...I can't find the write up for cats but heres some info on the side effects when used on dogs...and its much more dangerous for a cat. was this prescribed for pain? there other safer meds the Vet can prescribe for pain...
131114 tn?1380086790 she has the beginnings of stomitus and a tiny heart murmur. once we get the labs back she will get her mouth worked on. he also put her on KD for low protein diet as a prevention. so all in all, we are good and really good if that's not cancer! i bet she will start feeling pretty peppy once her her teeth are cleaned. i am sure missing Toot every day. she left so suddenly, it's still surreal. But at least i can focus on my manxy, AKA Button Butt! Hope to hear from them this week....
Avatar f tn It sounds like your cat was definitely in a cat fight and got an abscess from it. I don't know if you've seen cats fight before, but they roll around and fight on their backs. If your cat was running away he would've had wounds on his back. So, apparently your cat was fighting and got clawed or bitten in the belly. I hope that your cat is fixed, because if he's not, he will get into a whole lot more fights.
612551 tn?1450025775 He is also very social, gets along well with other dogs and people when we walk him on a leash. He is free ranging on our property and that has not been a problem, we have a country environment with about 3 acres of mowed upper property he can roam and he's not inclined to leave, even if chasing a White Tail Deer, yes he chases deer right up to our property line and then turns around and comes back. This makes me wonder if someone dumped him in Liberty State Park, he's not a run away type.
1563533 tn?1345369896 My cat has been dragging his but all over my apartment leaving doo doo streaks, I have checked the floor and I dont see any worms, he will not let me check out his butt, he has never wanted me checking him out back there. I am wondering do cats do what dogs do? Or do I just have a longhaird cat that had rather wipe his butt on the carpet than to lick it clean?? Poop does get on the hair back there! I am taking him to the pet groomer on Tuesday.
Avatar f tn My cat had an abscess on his back - which I have enough experience with to treat myself. I have owned cats for 30 years. I have been able to clear and heal the wound and have been dosing him with amoxicillin. He seems to have an allergy to this antibiotic as I have discovered hes been throwing up in the basement. This is the usual drug I use to treat abscess-type infections and I want to make sure the interior infection clears up.
Avatar n tn and some of them even have white heads on them. It has spread a little down the back of my thigh, and i dont know if it is acne or what...my neighbor had scabies, and i know what it looks like and how it "acts"...so I don't believe it's that. I don't know...what the f**k to do! HEEELLLPPP! It looks disgusting, itches occassionally, and just...I want it gone.
Avatar m tn Normally cats recover quickly after the operation, and are back to normal activities and routine the next day. Any swelling or redness is a sign that she’s not healing properly, call the vet immediately.. They are most unlikely to happen. Please keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Maybe the title is not accurate, but I really don't know what's going on and I desperately need help. Some time ago my cat had a bad injury in one of his legs caused by another cat in a fight. When I took him to the vet they pointed out his kidneys where 2 and even 3 times bigger, which could be caused by an infection or a kidney issue. He received antibiotics and came home, his kidneys looked "normal" in a few days after the antibiotics and so we though it was okay.
199954 tn?1294948269 I live in a apartment. We have about 10 stray cats outside the apartment. I look after them feed them and all. Two of them I tooked to have them spayed. The others not yet. My question is there are 2 mother cats. One of them lost her figure I guess to put it that way. Her face is different. It has a brown spot I don't if she is sick or been to a fight. She eats, drinks water and milk.
199177 tn?1490502134 Everything I just typed disappeared....argh...okay, sum up; Cats get over abcesses usually on their own, but by monday if it's not draining or very angry/red or causing pain (they usually don't), do take him to a vet. You can use a hot compress - soak a towel in hot water (and epsom salts if you have it) or a heating pad and hold it on the spot (if the cat will let you) and if it starts draining, press a warm damp towel near it to help it drain (if the cat will let you.
Avatar m tn (less than 1 yr old) first developed an open sore on his belly, as if an abscess had burst. That healed nicely. But now he has patches of scaly skin on lower back and tail. He has these on it's belly too, but on belly the hair seems to comes of w/ the scaly skin. Around the head pirate has small sores w/ scabs on them. He doesn't like me touching any of it. The scabs are the size of a pinhead to the size of a pencil eraser. No change in appetite, activity, or stool.
1006035 tn?1485579497 I feel bad about giving them the cosmetic surgery, but I would feel worse if they didn't have a good home where they were fed and cleaned regularly. We left the back claws, and my hubby woke up recently when one of our cats landed on his head and scratched it open! They're kinda clumsy babies. So, what do you guys think?
Avatar f tn I have a male cat not operated yet ,but driving me crazy because he wants to go outside, but when I cant stand him crying to go out ,i let him out ,the thing is he come back with cat bites all over him. Avatar n tn I have 2 hairless cats. About 2 weeks one of the cats right front leg was red, swollen and soft feeling. The next day he has licked a pinhole place and most of the puss had come out. It seemed to get much better after that and the pinhole healed. Today his left back leg is doing the same thing and the front one is again also. He and his brother both sleep together in the same bed and i wash their bedding at least twice a week.
Avatar m tn My cat came home with what looks like a bite on his back. As I inspected it, I noted a bad smell and some pus leaked out. The skin has been torn and there are about 3 square centimetres of pink flesh visible. I rinsed it with water, rubbing alcohol, and them more water. Then I applied an antiseptic bandage to it. Does this sound like the sort of wound that will heal on it's own, or should I bring him to a veterinarian?
376449 tn?1199315088 It seems to me that my little guy shouldn't be getting such bad infections if he is otherwise healthy. I have had cats my whole life, and my cats have always been outdoor cats, yet none of the other cats developed abcess infections from their cat fight wounds. I am so sick and tired of having him on antibiotics every few months. It breaks my heart, it causes me incredible worry, and it takes a toll on both of our quality of lives.
Avatar n tn I had a cat years ago that developed an abscess every summer right there on the back near the tail. And it was from flea bites. We had to be very diligent about keeping the fleas under control. Not sure why that area was so reactive but it was a battle.
Avatar m tn The vet said he definitely had an infection in his paws and they were going to need to keep him to give him antibotic and soak his paws. Picked him back up again on 12/29/09. He seemed much better, but he is nothing like the wild child he was before the surgery. The next day 12/30 I noticed he was sneezing quite a bit, it was a holiday and I figuered maybe it was because of the newspaper in his litter box. That only lasted a couple of days.
