Avatar m tn I developed a smaller abcess on my cheek at the weekend as a result to poor dental upkeep. I had a root left in my mouth and a tooth that had been over filled from a previous visit to the dentist 7 years ago that should have really have been a crown. I went to the dentist today and they pulled the root they said that it was most likely the cause of the abscess and after an hour and a half in the chair they finally pulled the roots.
1881960 tn?1320703566 My doctor gave me penicillin and something for pain but its day 3 and nothing has changed. I can feel the abscess in my mouth for the first time today. It's not getting smaller, only larger! I am 29 and on coumadin and lovenox so no dentist will see me. I've called dozens of dentists to no avail. I am trying not to become frustrated but each passing day I'm stuck in bed isn't helping. Any suggestions ?
Avatar f tn Or go to an emergency room or urgent care. In the mean time, ice water in your mouth can help. Rinse with salt water or hydrogen peroxide mixed with water. And take vitamin C. Drink lots of fluids, and ibuprofen is probably the best thing for the pain and swelling. If you don't have a problem with aspirin, you could try dissolving some baby aspirin on your tooth and the surrounding area. Or oil of cloves to help numb it. But I am not a doctor, so you really should find someone to call.
Avatar f tn I have a sore (closed, a little swollen and sharp pain if touched) on the roof of my mouth. Its in the middle and I have no idea what it could be, can anyone help?
Avatar f tn Over the past couple days I developed an extremely painful abscess. In an attempt to clean my mouth using coconut oil the abscess burst. I believe I didn't swallow any of the liquid leaking out and throughly rinsed my mouth with salt water and then some hydrogen peroxide. I will be receiving insurance in about 2 weeks from my new job so I am hoping I can hold off going to the dentist till then.

744115 tn?1232714417 a month and a half ago, i started having pain in my mouth. I tried over the counter drugs like ibuprofin but then the pain got worse. I went to the walk-in clinic and was prescribed the zpak (which was only 6 pills) omeprazole (because aspirins hurt my stomach) and declofenac. I am severely allergic to penecillin. Avatar f tn I have an abscess; upper right; the tooth broke off only some left close to the gums. My cheek is swollen near right side of nose and mouth and up under my right eye; very bad pain. Dentist put me on penicillin. My question is can they pull the tooth out while I am swollen? and how bad will it feel when they pull it? I have a fear of dentist and I will get it pulled out because I am more worried about the infection spreading to my brain ect..
Avatar f tn i am having a rear upper tooth extracted tomorrow - the pain will be slightly less than I have had over the last two weeks - this has been flaring up and down since February, but the last episode meant that I looked like I had a golf ball tucked in my cheek - my left nostril was numb, my head was too sore to brush my hair or touch, my neck hurt when I moved my head, my ear was crackling - the nhs dentist refused to drain the abscess but gave me antibiotics, these didnt work and I had another cou
Avatar n tn I've never had an infection in my mouth before so it's got me really worried. My tooth did stop hurting mostly though since my cheek swelled up, not sure why, is that good? Thanks, and any advice will be appreciated.
Avatar n tn I do go to a periodontist for gum disease that I have been told that I just have a certain type of bacteria in my mouth that causes this. Every time I have gone to the dentist - I have switched dentists and have gone to at least 6 in the past 5 years - it has resulted in some catastrophe that has cost me hundreds or thousands of dollars. I am so upset, I don't know what to do! Any thoughts or comments are appreciated.
Avatar n tn I wouldn't recommend doing that on your own. It would be best for you to see your dentist and have them do an incision and drainage on the area. The abscess you are describing sounds very large and you should see a dentist immediately. The swelling may continue to spread and it may go to other parts of your head and face so its best to manage it ASAP before there are more complications.
Avatar n tn If you continue to see signs, like the water is cloudy again or you see swelling or more external holes, then it might be a very good idea to go to your vet for antibiotics and to see what is causing the problem (usually, like I mentioned, the damage is a one time thing, but once in a while you get an ongoing cause, like a foreign object lodged under the skin or perhaps, in this case, a broken tooth is scratching against the inside of your cats mouth).
Avatar n tn I have a severe abscess tooth on the lower left side of my mouth. I have been to the ER and the dentist. I'm on antibiotics (clindamycin) 600mg ibuprofen and hydrocodone for pain. My dentist scheduled me an appointment to have the tooth pulled next Friday but since taking the antibiotics the whole left side of my face is extremely swollen my lips are severely swollen to the point I can't eat can barely drink and can't sleep.
Avatar f tn Its hard for me the answer without being able to do a full diagnosis but I would say any abscess should be taken care of sooner than later. Even if its draining, there is a constant infection present. If the fistula closes, it can spread rapidly to other parts of the mouth, face, neck region, etc. So is your dentist recommending to extract the tooth and place a bone graft in? I'm not what the success rate of a bone graft is when there's an infection in the socket.
Avatar f tn yes your abscess should go away you may need antibotics to clear it up
Avatar n tn my dog had a retribulbar abscess drain on 3/19/2012 , he hasnt ate since and i try o give him his pills but it hurts him and spits it out . What should i do ?
Avatar m tn Therefore, if you feel better after taking antibiotics, it does not mean you have infection responsible for your symptoms. If you do have chronic infection in your mouth, clinical and radiographic exam can confirm. If your extensive dental treatment were rendered for left side facial pain and pain was not relieved, you may have a condition known as atypical odontalgia. Seeing an Orofacial pain specialist is advised.
Avatar f tn I have a tooth Abscess and I went to a doctor who gave me some antibiotics but they made me really sick so I went to another doctor and they gave me different antibiotics and I have been taking them for 3 days now but the swelling has not gone down. I am allergic to penicillin so whenever I get antibiotics they give me special antibiotics.I am just wondering if this is normal not to see the swelling go down yet.
Avatar f tn I have been terrified of mouth work since childhood. He told me he would not work on me again unless I took Valium first. He said He needs to cut open the gum and drill into my jaw bone to remove the teeth. I did not go back and that was a year ago. Now the half tooth is abscessed. My face is so swollen its causing pressure in my eye ear and nose. Ive been on cephalexin for a bit more then 24 hrs now but the swelling and pain has not subsided at all. So my question is, when can i expect relief?
Avatar n tn i posted before. i had an abscessed tooth and the abscess spread into my cheek. my dentist put me on keflex but after 10 days there was still noticable swelling in my cheek. so now the dentist has put me on a stronger antibiotic. when i woke up this morning i felt a very large "bubble" on my inside cheek.
Avatar n tn 1) There are several different types of abscess but the most common is a periapical abscess in which there is a cavity in the tooth that invades the pulp of the tooth. The bacteria then travels down the pulp into the jawbone and begins to destroy the jawbone.
