Avatar m tn Did the dentist finish the job, and the next step was a post and core and crown? The last one third of the canal is sealed in a root canal, and then a temporary filling or permanent filling goes into the lower part of the canal. If that has fallen out, then the canal could be filled with food debris and could cause decay and irritate the gums.
702286 tn?1239015260 chances are whatever bacteria that is festering there is not susceptible to the antibiotic you have. Many of the patients we see in the E.R. that come in with abcesses related to injecting are MRSA positive. (a very tolerant bacteria that is only killed by one or 2 antibitotics.) (Methicillin-Resistant-Staphylococcus-Aureus). You can google it and find out more info. Only way to be sure what bacteria it is, is to have a culture. Like theeagle said, you need to see an MD.
Avatar f tn So I have severe hypochondria (health anxiety) and I am so so scared of getting a brain infection/brain abscess. I have heard one of the ways of this happening is by an infection in the ear. Now about a month ago I had Otitis Externa (outer ear infection) which was really painful and took about 2 weeks to completely clear up. I have really itchy ears at the moment because I have eczema inside so I am hoping thats all it is.
Avatar n tn A brain abscess is a collection of immune cells, pus, and other material in the brain, usually from a bacterial or fungal infection. Swelling and inflammation develop in response to this infection and eventually creates a mass and this may put pressure on delicate brain tissue and can block the blood vessels of the brain. Symptoms to watch out for include: changes in mental status, decreased movement or sensation, fever and chills, headache, seizures, stiff neck and vomiting.

352862 tn?1196803180 My son had a craniotomy on July 25th at Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence, RI to remove an abscess from the left side of his brain(Speech/Language area) the size was about the size of a golfball. I was told the abscess was caused by microaerophilic streptococci and we (I and the infectious Disease docs) have never been able to determine what could cause this. My question is what are the chances that this can redevelope? I know he will now be at risk for seizure...
Avatar f tn The symptoms and findings depend largely on the specific location of the abscess in the brain.Endocarditis, frontal sinus defect, gram negative bacilli Brain Abscess Following Klebsiella pneumoniae Septicemia are some of the causes.
Avatar f tn Pressure inside the skull may become high enough to be life-threatening. You will need to stay in the hospital until the condition is stable. Some people may need life support." Early treatment is better.
Avatar n tn 1) There are several different types of abscess but the most common is a periapical abscess in which there is a cavity in the tooth that invades the pulp of the tooth. The bacteria then travels down the pulp into the jawbone and begins to destroy the jawbone.
Avatar n tn IN SEPTEMBER MY VET RECOMMENDED GETTING IT PULLED. MY CAT HAS DISAPPEARED IN THE LAST 4 DAYS (VERY UNLIKE HER). I AM WONDERING IF I LET THE TOOTH GO FOR TOO LONG AND CAUSED AN INFECTION THAT MAY HAVE SPREAD TO HER BRAIN CAUSING HER TO LEAVE AND NOT COME BACK.
Avatar n tn Hi, Abscess can occur in any part of the body. Multiloculations means that there numerous pockets of pus within a single abscess cavity. Abscess formed in internal organs are usually due to hematogenous spread of microbes. But direct inoculation of organisms do occur.
Avatar n tn The pus forms inside the abscess as the body responds to the bacteria. Antibiotics are not required in the treatment of a simple abscess, unless the infection is spreading into the skin around the wound known as "cellulitis" (which I had).
Avatar m tn they last for about 10 mins to a half hour before my mind is racing on what could be wrong with my face/head and that it may have spread to my brain, so much so that i feel like any slight fatigue in my muscles on my right side (the side the infection is on) is a sign of a brain abscess, or any confusion i have about anything is another symptom of it, even the tenderness in my right upper temple makes me almost shut down with fear.
Avatar f tn Over the past couple days I developed an extremely painful abscess. In an attempt to clean my mouth using coconut oil the abscess burst. I believe I didn't swallow any of the liquid leaking out and throughly rinsed my mouth with salt water and then some hydrogen peroxide. I will be receiving insurance in about 2 weeks from my new job so I am hoping I can hold off going to the dentist till then.
Avatar n tn perhaps he had a past infection that healed, like a small abscess? Some have a tear in the lining around the brain which can cause cerebral spinal fluid leak, can be spontaneous. You didn't say where exactly it is. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I'm pretty sure its infected I'm worried that this pain on the same side of my head is maybe a sign the infection could be spreading to the brain ill be seeing the dentist in a few days but its been this way a while say a month no insurance makes this hard and I've been using peroxide and a mouth astringent to try and keep the infection down till then...
Avatar n tn Today I went to the dentist and they were going to put me in an emergency appointment at 4pm but as I was sitting there waiting for the person I came with to get done with their appointment my abscess burst in my mouth! It started gushing out blood/pus so right there the dentist took me back and suctioned it out and hand to numb me several times. It hurt a lot but luckily I'm numb now. They want to put me on another antibiotic (Keeflex?) but I don't have the money for it.
Avatar n tn He is now 9 years old, When everything was healing he stuck a led pencil #2 in his ear at school to itch it, and lost the led, I took him to see his doctor the same day, and she couldn't see anything in it. I put himin the shower and a small piece rinsed out. I think there may have been more and that could be why he has an abscess now. It will swell and go down, and when it swells it has to be putting a lot of pressure on his brain Could this be all caused from an abscess?
Avatar n tn Hi. Could you elaborate upon the "hole in the brain" a little more ? And what was the diagnosis based upon ? There could be a number of possibilities (brain abscess, tumor, etc.) and almost all brain conditions have a headache. It would be better if you could describe it a little more.
1657910 tn?1302375661 Eventually after I had been through all of those antibiotics I had several types of yeast infections - not just vaginal - I had them in my armpits and my mouth as well, in addition to just feeling very sick in general. The probiotics helped some with this. It is also pretty normal that your biopsy site reopened...all of my abscesses started with my first biopsy site. My doctor was not familiar with this at all either....it's pretty normal for us here, though.
Avatar n tn Well, anyways, it has been four days now, and the headache has continued to grow, it has spread from the left side of my head and into the right. the weird thing is that it hurts more in the new location than it did where it started. I occasiaonaly have throbbing pains in my ears such as an earache, but much shorter lasting, sometimes accompanied by pressure.Today it Felt like i had a throbbing pain in the top of my eye for about 45 seconds.
Avatar f tn My son had two brain surgeries to aspirate an abscess in the right frontal lobe of his brain. After the first, the encapsulation was not reached by the meds and the abscess grew larger, so a 2nd, more invasive surgery was done. This worked and he was on a regimen of antibiotics for 7 weeks and we have just learned that he needs to go back on an antibiotic, clindamycin, for the remaining year due to a slow growing bacteria that was found.
Avatar n tn Hi, relax, first of all, is it for sure that it is tuberculoma only because some of brain lesions do resemble tuberculoma. The CT/MRI diagnosis of tuberculoma is largely presumptive in view of its nonspecific appearance. Cysticercus granuloma, pyogenic abscess, metastases, fungal granuloma, and at times, glioma may be indistinguishable from tuberculoma. Please go through this article on website http://lrsitbrd.nic.in/IJTB/Year%201996/Jan%201996/JAN1996%20I.pdf for more information.
Avatar f tn You should take the antibiotics sooner just in case. The doctor informed you to take it if there was swelling and it sounds like you are experiencing that.
Avatar m tn and due to the fact that I'm the 1%, i don't have the funds to be dropping on them, so... i live in pain for the past 28 years of my life... Two days ago a tooth that has been cracked for about 6 months developed an abscess.. i got the routine pain along with a bit of swelling, however no bubble in the gum line.. I woke up yesterday with a bit of swelling in the cheek, and put myself on amoxicillin which i have plenty left from previous incidents..
Avatar n tn Why should they when they make money from dental disease. Dental decay is the number one disease in the world. The primaryPrimary amyloidosis Primary biliary cirrhosis Primary hyperparathyroidism Primary insomnia Primary lymphoma of the brain cause is diet, and no amount of dental work can stop the decay process.
1078123 tn?1255914486 It was obvious that he has some compression on his spinal chord, but she said it could also be an infection in his brain, maybe his cerebellum. The last time he fell, he was VERY wobbly when he first started walking again (A week after he fell) and he could not walk on smooth surfaces, like wood floor, or tile, because his paws would just slide out. We covered the house in rugs, and the vet put him on prednizone.
Avatar f tn My brother is 19 years old, he had CVA and undergone 3 surgeries first for hemorrhage the 2nd one is after 2 years he had burr hole to aspirate the abscess and also the same year had an open surgery on his head to get all the abscess. It's been a year then, he experienced seizure, and the dr diagnose him that he has "brain scar". We're looking for alternative treatment to remove the scar, is it possible? Can you recommend one?
