Avatar n tn painful lumps in the anus/rectum, pain and swelling in the anus or buttocks area, painful bowel movements, fever/ or night sweats, and abdominal pain. Antibiotics treat the infection that has caused the abscess. The specific antibiotic depends on what infectious organism has caused the abscess. Whether the abscess is drained or not, antibiotics are always used to treat the underlying infection. Needle aspiration of the abscess to remove the infectious fluid.
Avatar m tn I know it may sound really strange but I am in so much pain from recurrent abscesses. The abscesses are usually on my leg or in my arm pit and under my breast. I had one in my rectum area too. I had been to the doctors so many times and put on dicloxicillin which seemed to help at the time, yet they still kept on recurring. i don't know what to do.......
Avatar n tn Just had my third surgery due to abscess about a month and a half ago, and for the past few weeks have had this strange pain. Any pain that seems to be in the area of the rectum, makes me leary of abscesses, but this is different. The pain is in the left gluteus, into the bend of my hip, as well as the rectum. Seems that sitting worsens things, and I have been trying to sit/lie to my right to accomodate, but the pain never entirely goes away.
Avatar m tn Infection with herpes simplex virus can also be another cause. IBS can also cause a feeling of pressure in rectum. It is difficult to comment without examination. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar f tn 4 weeks ago I had what felt like an abscess in my rectum. After a few days I went to the toilet and passed out a bit of blood and what looked like an abscess. I went to the doctors the next day and he said that the bleeding looks like it's coming from further up and not near my rectum. After that I had a day of passing small amounts of blood and after that bowel movements were normal, no blood or diarhhea just a bit of mucus.
Avatar n tn - thrombosed hemorrhoids (no matter what stage hemmorrhoids are, they may got thrombosed) - an abscess under the skin around the anus, or deeper in the tissue around the rectum. I mean, infection could occur through the fissure. Can you provoke the pain by pressuring to some spot with the finger?
Avatar f tn They saw no sign of anything in the rectum ( with the exception of the scar from the fistula it looked great) so they didn't take biopsies there (which kind of ticked me off). All of my doctors (proctologists- two of them and my colorectal surgeon all think I'm nuts to keep worrying). Should I demand a rectal biopsy? It's been two years since healing.
Avatar f tn t an abscess can develop either visible from the outside or just inside the rectum. In that case, your dog will need some antibiotics.
Avatar m tn i went to the doctors a month and half a go because i was noticing blood in the toilet and on the tissue paper when i passed a stool. he checked my back passage for hemroids and couldn't find any. he said i could have hemroids inside. he told me to come back in a month if it continues. but since seeing the doctor it has not been happening that often and i even went like 3 weeks without it happening.but today it has started again and there was quite a lot of blood .
Avatar n tn What he has may really be a peri-anal abscess which has a sinus draining connection in one of the anal crypts inside the anal canal. This is really very hard to treat with medical management alone (such as antibiotics) and may need repeated surgeries and drainage. The tract of the abscess should also be unroofed but this may have a complication of fecal incontinence and should be best handled by a very experienced surgeon.

Avatar f tn Hello, Few possibilities which need to be ruled out in your case are of constipation, proctottis or inflammation of the lining of the rectum, perianal abscess caused by infection in the gland in the anal canal by the bacteria found in faeces, hemorrhoids, proctalgia fugax and levator ani syndrome. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar f tn Infection with herpes simplex virus can also be another cause. IBS can also cause a feeling of pressure in rectum. It is difficult to comment without examination. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral. Take care!
Avatar f tn I have a tear in my rectum (the result of an injury). It has resulted in what has been diagnosed as an anal fistula. I have had a cetin inserted in the past. This resulted in the abcess draining, the incision never completely closing up, further pain, and fluid again filling the abcess. A doctor told me (after an external exam), that he wants to cut into my sphincter muscle. I have read that this can cause permanent incontinence, and may not even heal the fistula.
1486408 tn?1288033528 I went to a doctor to talk about a colonoscopy, and he said that my rectum was so narrow that he would not do it... Now I am in constant pain inside, which does not leave me. I take Colace to keep the little food I eat 'flowing' and Milk of Magnesia (which I have been taking for about 4 years). I have been told there are adhesions in my rectum (? is that possible ?) and have an appointment to see a specialist - but not for twelve weeks.
Avatar n tn 00 relative to the rectum. You have to push in and fill the pillow-like glands and then squeeze behind them as you pull outward. The other method definitely requires medical gloves because you use a finger inserted into the rectum to express the glands. Of course, the dog usually doesn't appreciate this procedure and some will put up quite a struggle to avoid it. Those tissues can be pretty delicate so you really need to know the dog's anatomy before you go messing around down there.
Avatar m tn For the past 6 or 7 months I have been having anal symptoms. The anus/rectum has a constant burning sensation and a slight pain to the left of the rectum also. I frequently have loose, moist stools but theres never any sign of blood or mucous. I have been given numerous anti-fungal/hemmorhoid creams to try and alleviate the symptoms but to no avail. On one of my visits I also got my doctor to check my groin lymph nodes as I felt one on the left side bigger than all the rest.
Avatar m tn For about a week now, my entire groin area has become red and irritated. It itches and burns constantly. The red area extends from the space between my scrotum and rectum up to the creases between my legs and groin. It has not reached on to my scrotum or penis. Some areas have become a pale nasty color. The inner walls of my thighs have become swollen, making it very difficult to walk without pain. Also the entire area sweats a nasty slime that stinks and leaves my underwear wet.
Avatar m tn ve had unusual pressure in the rectum. Early in proceedings I felt what I assumed was a hemorrhoid half in half out, it felt like the lead of a pencil about 1cm long. That went away but the pressure remained and got worse. This developed into referred pain in the buttocks (particularly right), lower back and right leg.
Avatar n tn My lates problem was on September 21 of this year when I ended up with an abscess on top of the hernia scar. I ended up going in by ambulance to get the abscess exised and drained. I spent the next days on IV for antibiotics due to having had sepsis from the abscess. I hope that this will be the last of the problems that I will have with that region of my body. I might need to have surgery to repair a fistula between my prostate and rectum. Hopefully I can do without that. All the best.
Avatar m tn For the last 4 months or so Ive had a thickening of the skin over my right axillae. I has a huge abscess in the area which resolved spontaneously after antibiotics. I noticed the irregularity in my skin soon afterwards. The lump hasnt increased in size but it wont go away either. Any thoughts??....thanks.
Avatar f tn Hi angel114, Typically if a abscess forms you take antibiotics, and if it's bad enough they have to also be drained, you can't really "cut out" an abscess,at least not without taking healthy tissue with it. Your grandmother should receive a pelvic exam to determine the cause and extent of the abscess to determine the correct treatment,a small sample may also be taken to rule out cancer beings she is post menopausal.
Avatar m tn An abscess is basically a build up of pus and infection in the jaw bone area. I assume that since you've seen a dentist recently, it probably would've been spotted at your last checkup as they generally develop from large cavities. There are abscess that also develop from gum disease as well but assuming you had a cleaning and check up, thats also a little more unlikely. Best to get it checked out and taken care of.
Avatar n tn Is it an inside pimple, sharplike cartilage or what? I am not in any pain. There is no pain with bowel movements. no history of STD other than 2 cases of crabs 35 years ago. 1 online Dr. said this: "If there is no previous significant history then most probably it may be a folliculitis which is a infection of the oil producing & opening of the hair follicles around the anus.At present you should just keep that area clean & dry & should apply a local antibiotic cream on that .
Avatar f tn More specifically it is called Amoebic Liver Abscess. The abscess, if it is one, is relative small and can be cured by antibiotics. No need to go in for aspiration. It is 100% curable. Also go in for a blood test along with a liver function test to test the levels of the enzymes. But, FIRST consult a good gastroenterologist. I wouldnt worry if I were you.
