Abscess in gum treatment

Common Questions and Answers about Abscess in gum treatment

abscess

Avatar n tn I have recently developed a dental abscess on the lower left side of my gum. It is located below the screw they placed during surgery. I went to my local dentist and he told me to contact my Maxillofacial Surgery and prescribed 500 mg of Amoxicillin because it may be related to the screw. I have no pain at all in my tooth only the discomfort of having a swollen gum and what feels like like a hard bump a little above the abscess.
Avatar f tn Hi, lump in the gums above and adjacent to the teeth most commonly can be tooth abscess or fistula opening due to infected tooth. You may just check out any frank cavity or food imapaction area in related teeth to the swelling. In such case you may need antibiotics and root canal treatment of the affected tooth with the help of a dentist. Other possibilties could be pyogenic granuloma, fibroma, periodontal abscess etc. Check out with local dentist to confirm.
691614 tn?1227468251 I have a white lump that has appeared in my gum above my front tooth. It isn't painful but when pressed I feel pressure on my tooth. It has been there about 3 weeks now. What it is?
Avatar f tn It is possible that your dentist has prescribed antibiotics for preventing spread of infection. If there is dental decay you may need treatment for the cause. The treatment can be decided only after in you whether you will need root canal or extraction. Dental cavities if left untreated can lead to serious complications like dental abscess or spread of infection to surrounding structures. For more queries and concerns visit your dentist and get evaluated. Hope it helps. Best wishes and regards!
Avatar n tn I'v just noticed a big abscess above my tooth, i already know i need root canal treatment for the tooth but my dentist can't take me for another week. Is it safe to wait that long without anti-biotics or treatment?
Avatar n tn I Had to have two teeth pullled due to an abscess on my gum. I thought that you could not pull teeth while you had and infection in your mouth. Is this true or not. Also if you have teeth pulled does this clear up the infection. Even though you have to take medication for a week to ten days.
Avatar f tn After the crown prep, had periodic pain in both so asked dentist to place crowns with temp cement in case root canal became necessary. Experienced severe galvanic shock. Removed temps and had root canals on both teeth. Continued to have severe pressure sensitivity on 19 and some on 18. Dentist insisted on placing perm crowns - different crown materials (about six weeks ago.) Afterwards, pressure sensitivity improved but gum swelled on the linqual side.
Avatar n tn I agreed to the root canal work but the appointment is a month away - it is already 6 weeks since I finished the penicillin treatment and I have a fairly large swelling on the gum (which isn't painful). Is the delay in root canal treatment likely to be problem?
Avatar n tn On several occasions during two of those years, I put tobacco in my upper gums. I've stopped since last November. Now, I'm feeling pain above one of my upper gums. It's a constant throbbing pain (7-8 on a scale of 1-10). That area started to have a little sensitivity several weeks ago, but then racheted up into a painful situation three days ago. There is a light-colored, tiny bump there--it feels mushy and painful to the touch.
Avatar m tn It is best to get an appropriate evaluation and treatment done. In few cases root canals can fail due to branching and convolutions of the tooth roots. If hidden and branched canals do not get treated effectively it can lead to further complications. See your dentist at the earliest. Treatment will be specific based on the cause. Best luck and regards!
Avatar f tn The next day I went to the endodontist and they made an incision to allow the abscess to drain. I was also given a prescription for metronidazole (500mg) to take in addition to the amoxicillin. Thankfully the swelling in my cheek subsisted, however I still have a fair amount of swelling and tenderness in my gum under the retreated root canal and my jaw hurts a little. How long should it take for the swelling and tenderness in my gum under my tooth to go away?
Avatar n tn see both then make a choice endo and a surgeon thats what I did and made the choice for the tooth to be removed and an implant put in. I made the right choice in my case the tooth could not be saved and the implant is amazing better than my real tooth. I chose the later after hearing there was no garantee another root canal would take and if it did maybe for a year or two and I did not want to go to one then have the other a few years later.
Avatar m tn Judging by your description, it is most likely a fistula which is a tract that forms from the abscess of your infected tooth that escapes out to the gums. As long as the fistula in intact, your abscess can drain and slow down the spread of the abscess but if the fistula closes up, the abscess can spread rapidly through your face or neck area. I would recommend seeing a dentist and getting treatment started.

Avatar m tn Now I have an abscess on my gum and jaw adjacent to that tooth. I have made an appointment to see a specialist but it will take 2 weeks to be seen. Should I try to get an emergency appointment to get some antibiotics going or should I just wait and see if the abscess doesn't get any worse? Also, why did thhis happen when I had a root canal in the first place?
Avatar n tn visit as my insurance had not started. Two days ago I began having swelling in my gums. Yesterday I found a discolored area on my gums above my front right tooth. Today the sore has progressed to my pallet and is sore and feels blister it is also bleeding. Could this be a sinus abscess?
Avatar m tn Gum boil tends to resolve within a week if retreatment of root canal is successful.
Avatar f tn I've had a tooth abscess since the beginning of this year sometime. I went to the ER because my jaw had become so swollen that it was completely ridiculous. They gave me penicillin which I took (28 pills, 3 times a day with food). When I finished that bottle I realized that there was still a sort of blister on my gum even though it was much smaller than it used to be.
Avatar f tn I chipped my front tooth 44 years ago, and had a root canal, braces, bonding then finally a crown put on. In the early 90s, I had an abscess make an opening in the front of my gums and start draining. It seems that the metal point in my root canal caused the abscess and an endodontist did a second root canal, removed the metal and used gumma percha and it was fine. Now it’s 2018 and I have a soreness beneath my nose and I thought it was from clenching my teeth while I sleep.
Avatar n tn The bump codld be an periapical abscess , which may need root canal treatment.

Avatar f tn I have been cleaning it regularly with salt water and the pain is not in tooth, but mostly in the gum/cheek area above the back molar. I went to see the dentist (I am staying in Bahrain to visit my dad who works here, and went to a dentist here). The dentist, in my opinion, wasn't very good, and told me that I needed a root canal (Duh), and to take an anti-inflammatory, (duh again). He said i didn't need antibiotics as the infection wasn't that big and my body would fight it off.
Avatar n tn I have two abscess but not the money to pay for the surgery what can i do? I took antibotics and got ride of the infecttion to spread but its still there and im worried 1 it will cont to grow till my jaw bone is weakend and brakes 2 i dont have the thousands of dollars for the procude any way 3 no insurance will cover the procidure i can try and get money back but they want the full pay up front and i just dont have that kind of money in my back pocket.
Avatar m tn A little history, the first root canal was done over a decade ago and last month I had terrible pain and the appearance of the abscess on my gum just above the problem tooth. I went on antibiotics first and then after popping the abscess on several occasions only to have the abscess come back. I know it isn't recommended. The pain went away but the abscess remained.
Avatar m tn since last 2 month am having a problem in my tooth, the left front tooth is paining slightly if pressed a bit towards right side,n the gum just in between the gait n back side of front teeth becomes slightly swollen then it goes off, rest all teeth are fine n there is no gum problem, neither the front left tooth is loose or shaking, but when i touch the tooth with my finger or slide my finger on top of the tooth there is a different feeling from rest of the teeth.the tooth is not sensitive either.
Avatar f tn Since then I developed a small swollen mass on the inside of my gum which was there for about two months, but haven't had any pain in the tooth since then. On Monday, the mass on my gum went away and my cheek and jaw swelled up. I've been taking Bactrim and Keflex since then. The swelling has gone down some. For the past two days I've had an extremely intense burning and tingling feeling in my left hand up to my elbow.
Avatar m tn This is definetly genetic due to the fact I am only 37 years old and take excellent care of my teeth (both of my parents lost their teeth very early in life). The teeth broke off (again) and my dentist cemented them back on, they are now lose and have a very funny odor. I am 27 weeks pregnant and have become obsessed with overexagerating my health (I have talked myself into this being jaw bone cancer..........).
Avatar f tn Now, I have headaches, earaches, toothaches, and gum infections at the same time. I called ask- a-nurse in my community, but her only advice to me is to see a doctor. Since I am uninsured she advised me to go to the ER to get some antibiotics. I can't afford to go there because it is very expensive. I went there 2 years ago for a similar situation, and all I got was a BP check and two prescriptions it cost me $958.00. Of course, I could not pay for it.
